  • Welcome to video 39.
Finally! The unboxing and running of my new ‪@BachmannEuropeOfficial‬ 411 (4TEP) EMU. Model number 31-424SF.
It's quite the model - 4 carriages, really nice quality.
But...in my opinion it's too expensive.
What do you think? Let me know!
    From the Bachmann website:
“The Bachmann Branchline 4-CEP Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) broke new ground when it was first released and now we’ve created new bodyshells for this award winning model to bring you these new models depicting the refurbished units. With the fitting of hopper ventilator windows and the relocation of the two guard’s compartments from the driving vehicles to a single location in the trailer vehicle, the changes made at refurbishment were drastic and we’ve captured them all in this new Branchline model which depicts 4-TEP No. 2703 in BR Blue & Grey livery.”

That is a really smart model train set lovely locomotive. I take it was electric driven by third rail and where they only operating in and around London? Anyway it’s a beautiful train set lovely coaches with the Old BR colours I grew up with when I travelled by train in the 1970’s and early 1980’s. Thanks fantastic video.

Yes, it was run off the third rail in the south of England. I have some third rail, which I will eventually get around to fitting.
      Thank you for watching!

Yes, it’s expensive. Too expensive in my opinion…
I’ve got the Hornby unit you mention on order too, in Southern Rail livery. I’m looking forward for that to finally be released.
      Thanks for watching!

I purchased one of these sound fitted variants (very heavily discounted) and I can see why! The rigid drawbar connection is a real pain. So awkward to couple together. I usually run all my locos and coaching stock using "Hunt" type magnetic couplings and sadly - there is no other alternative to use on this 4-TEP because of the electrical continuity needed for the lights to function. It's either "Hunt" couplings and no lights, or the rigid drawbar couplings and lights. Also, the DCC decoder is highly visible inside the driving end. Quite disappointed to be honest.

Yes, I agree about the decoder. That’s one thing I really noticed when I got the new Hornby 423 where it is hidden it in the guard/luggage section.
The draw bar is an unfortunate necessity for lighting and lighting control in the multiple carriages, unless they were to out a visible DCC decoder in each carriage.
Thanks for taking the time to comment!

What’s the track underlay your using?

      I use DCC Concepts - DCU-TBH5 TrackBed, 5mm Depth. It’s good stuff.

It looks like a great model. I have got two original CEPs - one in BR Blue, and the other in Blue and Grey. I would like to have the Jaffa Cake one to make it a threesome - but alas - the price is way too high! Thanks for uploading

    • @hillmanhalt
      @hillmanhalt  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Agreed. I had ordered it thinking I would make a decision when it was released, however the seller charged me and shipped it without telling me! All in all, it’s ok, but it really is an expensive model - a one off purchase, definitely not three! 🤣

Here in America, Bachman earned themselves a reputation for producing junk! They have gotten a small bit better but I won't buy anything from them. Hope they treat the Brits better.

That’s very interesting… All the Bachmann stuff I have so far is good, but my favorite is the Accurascale. It’s a different level of quality and better value feature/quality per $ (no affiliate, before anyone comments!)

In UK they provide good quality and detail but are VERY expensive . Probably the most expensive UK model train supplier . Interestingly the previous version of the 4CEP is still being sold at 50% discount . Nice model but way too expensive .

@@hillmanhalt now according to 1987 ABC Motive Power, combined volume...class 411/4 & 411/5 were still classified as CEPs all rebuilt 1979-1984 Class 412/3 rebuilt 1982 & still classified as BEPs I do believe anything with a T for example 4TC is a 4 car non motored set
