Hi guys. I was wondering where you got the blue bags to tidy away the cables. If you could provide a recommendation or link that would be great. Also found the videos great too!
Great video again folks! So useful for us novices waiting for our Cali’s to be delivered. I notice you mentioned an electric heater - why do you need this if the Cali diesel heater is so good?
We only use it when we’re on a site with hookup as it saves a bit of diesel. We don’t tend to use it very often to be honest, but it is also nice to have very instant heat too if we need it.
Yes - as it allows us to be outside enjoying the nice weather, a beer and able to cook. Plus (probably more important!) is if we’ve got something particularly messy, it’s easier to wash up than clean the Cali hob!
We have a gas heater that’s great for instant heat but does create a bit of background noise. Our electric oil radiator is silent has a thermostat so is perfect for leaving on during the night, if we are hooked up. I think you need both for the winter in the UK
Ooo good question. I think the larger ones are something like 35x26x15 and the shallower ones are the same but x8 rather than x15. I know they do different colours now too!
Ahh ok - thanks for the tip, a pity though that Ikea have discontinued the correct size for us!! Will check that one out in Rymans when I am next near one
Nice video again . i noticed particularly your very smart nespresso portable system , i'll ask Santa Claus for that ! On our side we have also those Kuggis boxes from IKEA In summer - if wild campsite - we also use sometimes our KAMPA GEYSER hot cube system for hot shower , very compact , plugged on 12v socket and linked to 904/907 gaz bottle . with Quechua pop up cabin , it's nearly 5 stars hotel everywhere ! We'll probably buy CADAC but at the moment our small CAMPING GAZ BISTRO burner + "custom" plancha do the job
We're just starting out with our 1st cali and finding your videos so useful! You do seem to have thought of everything! Just wanted to ask which size ikea storage boxes you have used in your cupboard please? Thanks, Caroline x
Hi, we’ve ordered a Cali so this was a really useful video! Could you please tell me the size of the curver box in the bottom left hand cupboard & also the skubb box dimensions? Thanks!
Hi, glad it was helpful :) The skubb boxes are the ones in the bench seat and come as a set of six with 3 sizes included (just have a look at the link in the description). The ones in the cupboard are kuggis - 26x35x8 (the shallow one) and then 26x35x15 for the deeper one. I think Ikea might be out of the shallow one at the moment but you might be able to find one online somewhere. The curver box - good question... We'll have to measure it and come back to you.
No, you didn’t miss it - we didn’t say! We’ll do a separate vlog about bedding etc and options, but we keep ours in a IKEA zip bag in the boot behind the bench seat 👍
Great to see how others use the space in a Cali. The ikea boxes are perfect and was probably the first thing we bought, so can we’ll recommend!! (Will definitely be drilling a hole in the shallow ones now👍). 2 questions, with all your storage filled with utensils and tech etc…. Where do you store your clothes? And where do you store your bedding? Thanks again. Dave
Hi Will and Sarah. Thank you so much for your wonderful and inspiring channel. We have recent bought a California Coast T6.1 the same age as yours, and are finding your videos really useful and interesting and we have taken a lot of your advice. Could you please provide a link for the coloured zip-up clothes bags that you put in your wardrobe. All the very best. Andrew and Caroline C.
New Subscriber to your channel 💜…Absolutely loved your Cupboard tour… How ingenious!…the double ended kitchen spoon/scraper/siever thingy 🙌🏼 , Quick question.. Did I miss your where your coffee pod maker was? Looking forward to your previous videos, Glad to have found you! And thank you for sharing!
We’re very pleased you’ve found us!! Our coffee pod machine is in the drawer with the stovetop kettle and tea etc. It’s in a dark black canvas case/bag so tricky to see. 😀
In one of your videos you posted a link for the bin behind the passenger seat, I can’t seem to find that link anywhere, do you remember what the bin was? I bought a different one and it doesn’t quite fit annoyingly.
I had to make a brew as you pulled out the hot drinks box 😂 Question… do the ingenio pans slide off the pot stands? We use tefal pans with the thick base as they grip the stove really well 👍🏼
Hello! The ingenio pans do move around a bit, yes, although we've found this tends to only be a temporary problem with new vans/hobs as the hob stainless bars start to get a little rough with normal use, thus allowing the pans to be more 'stuck' in place. I know they also do different types of ingenio pans too including different base types which are likely better than our aluminium non-stick version.
Just rented a Coast (2022) are the cupboard sliding doors always stiff ? Just broke a clip on the left hand side , after struggling to move both doors to allow the cutlery draw to be pulled out ? It has certainly put me off buying a California , not great quality , just hope I’ll get some of the £250, deposit back
Ours were stiff from the factory but sorted quickly with a little tiny bit of silicone spray in the lower track. Now slide nicely. It is worth noting that if you have the right hand door fully open (ie slid to the left behind the left hand door) then you can’t press the button on the left hand door and slide both across to the right in one go. You could do this on the T6 but as the button design has changed on the 6.1 you can’t do that now. Hope things get sorted easily on it.
Hi Sarah and Will, thank you for all of the videos, they're really helpful. I've recently brought an exe demo VW T6.1 California Ocean, first trip this Monday to Hayling Island, as it's close to us. During this video Will turned on a small light in the top left hand cupboard. Where is the switch located to operate this light please? As I can't seem to locate it 😂 Also have you made a video that explains the control panel at the back on the right hand side, as I'm not at all sure what this is for and how it is used correctly. Kind regards, Stuart
Hello! The lights for the cupboards under the sink are on the end, on the right hand side of the kitchen block as you look at it - near the USBs. We've not done a video on the rear climate control panel (that's what it is). The Ocean is a great model as it has the three zone climate control. This means left/right front passengers and also the rear has its own temperature control and fan speed etc. This is great if you have a dog in the back, children etc. Only works with the engine running mind you.
Hi Will and Sarah - could you please tell me the sizes of the Kuggis boxes that you have for your van please - looking at getting some for mine (but haven't picked the van up yet so can't measure the shelves!) Thanks
They are Kuggis 26x35x8cm (the shallow ones) and Kuggis 26x35x15cm (taller ones). The 8cm shallower ones seem to be either out of stock or discontinued but if you look at eBay, Facebook marketplace etc you might be lucky!
Hi.... Cali on order but I have hired before on occasions and glad to see it's not just me that gets all OCD about rattles and noises clanging about in the back :-) Quick question with regard to your redundant Tefal pans... well, not so much the pans but the 'stuff' you have padding the them out to avoid the rattles.... are they bought or crafted by your own hands?
We have just bought our first Cali. Found your Chanel and loving all the content. Thanks for sharing. Now I’m a guy and can live without the frills, but Pauline wants to fen the van up a bit. Could you please tell us where your round light above the kitchen were bought from? Thanks once again guys. Robbie and Pauline
Yep, the shower pocket is here: vwcaliforniaclub.com/shop/product/brandrup-utility-rear-wardrobe-shower-bag-vw-t6t5-california-ocean-se-coast?fo_c=3413&fo_k=133cd351f232f59e7d40999a812c74d3&fo_s=gplauk&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI-ezOo_v2_QIVSrTtCh1dJg-DEAQYASABEgIOg_D_BwE Clothes go in packing cubes (Amazon) and in the wardrobe / overhead box above the bench
No where to put clothes and shoes! Kinda confirms my worry about the T6.1. Such a shame as really wanted to buy one but prob gonna have to get a mobile home now.
Hi guys. Just got our Cali Ocean yesterday and trying to organise things! Love the idea with the ikea boxes in the seat drawer but the mystery is….. Where are your fly screens now?🤔
another fantastic and very informative video - I went to Ikea to look for the Kuggis boxes but i could only find the taller one - wasn't able to find the half height one don't suppose you have the dimensions of the boxes please
Sorry me again the storage boxes you have in the right hand cupboard? Ikea is there space to have two of the smaller ones on the top shelf? Not having my van yet means I can’t check myself and our nearest Ikea is miles from us my daughter has kindly offered to take me there. Exciting times getting things sorted 😀
We have the same tefal pans as you. I find the handle scratches all round the edge though. Just bought the dustpan and brush and ordered a collapsible kettle and now looking for the collapsible electric kettle (any good?). BTW, the Lakeland multi pan lid has been discontinued.
Thanks for letting us know about the lid, that’s a shame. The collapsible electric kettle works a treat. It isn’t the fastest to boil but it isn’t that high power (so easy on campsite electrics).
That was sad as predicted 😂 but also very useful. Thanks as ever. Just a question as I’m surprised you didn’t show us Will 🙄 - what kind of thing is it you use for filling the water please? ( I know, we never let up ..)
Ahh I see, sorry. Probably easier with a photo but we’ve got normal garden style hose connectors on both ends (the quick release type) as it just nicely wedges in the hole on the van when you take the water cap off. We carry a small selection of plastic screw on adaptors and quick release male ends to connect to any tap we come across.
It’s normally empty except for Sarah’s travel hair dryer and a couple of packable ponchos for emergency use. We use the wardrobe for our clothes and we use soft packing cubes to load it. We have separate colours between us so we know who’s is who’s. We would like some shelves I think, as it does turn in to a bit of a big bucket!
Really helpful and who doesn't love a good nosey 😉 Hubby and I have just ordered our T6. 1 coast.... Just a 10 month turnaround 😢 Can I ask about the wags blanket thingy you showed in the airline overhead please? Thank you 😊
Hi Kirstie, I bought it from a local pet shop to us, but it’s here if you want to take a look: gsequestrian.co.uk/products/henry-wag-alpine-travel-snuggle-bed?variant=31799360323632&gclid=CjwKCAiA1aiMBhAUEiwACw25MSGq_Bz1TSSvF6VYgebwNkrlH6RXUkkWRysu_M0RXgbWxzMMPOzhaRoCQwcQAvD_BwE We were keen to make sure it was something small and light and it seems to do the job!
Just pull the top off (the triangle plastic bit) and you’ll see that there are three rubber triangle compartments in there. Fill, then clip lid back on 👍
Clothes go in soft packing cubes and in the wardrobe and tools… well the Cali has it’s own mini toolkit stored in the rear of the bench seat for changing the wheel etc. Apart from that, it comes with breakdown cover !
@@CampervanTime I have breakdown cover but I would rather have a go instead of waiting hours (sometimes). I may ditch them though. I am a bit of a belt and braces person.. No fire extinguisher?
Hi Guys! Is your cutlery tray a standard 6.1 tray? I've got a 6 and it's not shaped well at all. I've had a look and van't seem to find one that looks like yours. Hope you're both well :)
Yes, it is/was the standard one that came with the van. Brandrup sell a custom one if you’re not happy with what you have, it has different trays/slots 👍
Hi Do you need some great lighting for your car to help you better driving, off-road. We're the pro auto lighting manufacturer for nearly 20 year and we're looking for sponsorship!
@@CampervanTimeI’m hovering over the button to reserve one of these but I’m concerned in regards to space for clothes and walking gear etc. You say you store your clothes in the wardrobe but that already has stuff in it, doesn’t seem to leave much room for anything else. I just started watching your channel but have been binging on your videos trying to decide what van to purchase. Prices are horrendous in my opinion and having a really high quality tent and set up for a tent I’m finding it all quite hard deciding what to do. I have seen some of your more recent videos where you have changed to a larger van which looks excellent but not suitable for us due to parking situation. Anyway I appreciate all your knowledge and experience you share on your channel.
Thanks for watching! In the cali we kept clothes in the wardrobe in Amazon packing cubes (3-4 each), and then we also used the locker over the bench seat for other clothing bits and bobs as there’s quite a lot of space in there. The big drawer under the bench seat we used for pots and pans, plus as a bit of a pantry and odds and sods drawer. The two kitchen cupboards under the sink / hob are big and can also take your plates / glasses / mugs, plus kitchen utensils and also act as a larder too. Remember the fridge is pretty cavernous and can easily hold food etc. for a couple of days for two people. Lots of space in the rear too, and the little rear cupboard in the garage area (back of the wardrobe). The cali really is quite ingenious for storage.
@SnowyAspenHills I really understand the challenge of trying to figure it all out. These are big money decisions and you’re right to go into a lot of detail about it. Clothes - we use packing cubes from Amazon. Red cubes for me, green for Sarah. We have 4 each and we tend to have 1 for smalls, shaver, PJs, then 1 for trousers, 1 for jumpers/sweatshirts and 1 for short sleve t’s etc. Coats are elsewhere. Works for us and all 8 fit easily in the wardrobe when packed up. Walking gear tends to work best in the boot under the bench board, on a tray. Muddy boots can go in there along with walking poles, rucksacks etc. The Cali is a space and storage master - very very good indeed and lots of aftermarket extra pockets etc if you need more storage too. Have a look at Brandrup for high quality options for the Cali.
In one of your videos you posted a link for the bin behind the passenger seat, I can’t seem to find that link anywhere, do you remember what the bin was? I bought a different one and it doesn’t quite fit annoyingly.
Thanks for some good tips guys! Looking forward to Sarah’s clamping video I feel like I’m going to learn a lot from it 😊
Thanks for reminding us about that! We will sort when we get our new van in the next few months :)
Excellent vid, great ideas! Helping me as I set out on my van life adventure!
You’re very welcome
Great video. I just bought a California last week, and you’ve given me lots of ideas for storing my stuff. ❤
Those Joseph Joseph folding scales are brilliant. We have them in the kitchen drawer in the house.
New sub! Loved the pace and tone. Some great ideas for a new to be vanner.
Congrats!!
Great ideas…. I use a lot of the same stuff … loving the Joseph scales… going to get those for sure…
Sarah spotted those a while ago but has only just dug deep enough to buy them!!
Hi you 2, me and my husband are loving your videos. Can I please ask what size Kuggis boxes you used-if you can remember 😊
Great video thank you. My Cali is on order - cannot wait to get organised!
The wait is agony, I remember it well! Hope you are enjoying collecting goodies in the meantime :)

Great video again folks! So useful for us novices waiting for our Cali’s to be delivered. I notice you mentioned an electric heater - why do you need this if the Cali diesel heater is so good?

Ooo good question. I think the larger ones are something like 35x26x15 and the shallower ones are the same but x8 rather than x15. I know they do different colours now too!
I think the 35*26*8 have been discontinued, but Rymans do a Wham Studio Basket 5.01 that looks identical in size and shape, albeit without the lid
Ahh ok - thanks for the tip, a pity though that Ikea have discontinued the correct size for us!! Will check that one out in Rymans when I am next near one

@@CampervanTime thank you! Need something for our vizsla to sit on as he's a diva 😉
Sarah how do you fill the salt & pepper 😂😂 my one just arrived with no instructions lol 👍
Just pull the top off (the triangle plastic bit) and you’ll see that there are three rubber triangle compartments in there. Fill, then clip lid back on 👍
Done 🤦🏽♀️lol
🤣🤣🤣😁
No tools and where do you keep your clothes?
Clothes go in soft packing cubes and in the wardrobe and tools… well the Cali has it’s own mini toolkit stored in the rear of the bench seat for changing the wheel etc. Apart from that, it comes with breakdown cover !
Although going on a ‘proper’ long trip into the wilderness, we’d take a small selection of tools.
@@CampervanTime I have breakdown cover but I would rather have a go instead of waiting hours (sometimes). I may ditch them though. I am a bit of a belt and braces person.. No fire extinguisher?
Where did you get the little rubbish bin on RHS of sink I see in 6:28 please?
Hi! It's this one from Camper Centrum in Amsterdam :) vwcampershop.nl/top-volgens-rob/prullenbakje/
@@CampervanTime Thanks so much. I see they are out of stock at the moment, but I will keep an eye on the site.
What size Kugis did you get to fit? Thanks
6x35x8 (the shallow one) and then 26x35x15 for the deeper one :)
Much appreciated
You can't use all that kitchen stuff surely?? I've got less in my house 🤣
🤣 certainly not all at once! We’ve got way too many tefal ingenio pans that’s for sure.
Where are your clothes?
We use soft packing cubes from Amazon and store them in the wardrobe :)
@@CampervanTime Thanks for the information, appreciated.
What did you drill the hole with? What size drill bit did you use?
I used a step drill and the whole is 22mm I think, but also started a pilot hole of 6mm to help the step drill start
Thanks
In one of your videos you posted a link for the bin behind the passenger seat, I can’t seem to find that link anywhere, do you remember what the bin was?
I bought a different one and it doesn’t quite fit annoyingly.
Sure - it's from Campercentrum in Amsterdam. I'm not sure if they make them any more, you might have the email them and ask
@ Thanks 🙏
