    I recently mounted a Viper on a Walther Q5. I’m quite pleased with it but do have one suggestion. If the top rear of the sight had a quarter inch channel right between the two lock screws (directly over the elevation adjustment screw) it would serve as a back up rear sight. I actually am surprised you guys didn’t think of that already.

    FYI, for those who shoot/compete at USPSA matches, installing the 6-Second Mount (purple mount) and others that mount directly to the frame (versus mounting to the slide, e.g., via the dovetail or milled slide) means you will be required to shoot in the “Open Division” which is comprised of the best shooters, sporting tricked-out pistols that can cost up to $10K. However, slide-mounted optics allows you to shoot in the “Carry Optics Division.”

    Thank ya buddy, me and my father are up and coming gunsmiths, and especially looking on CHEAP red dot mounts WITH OUT milling. I feel there are too many "universal" dove tail sights compared to what it should be. The universal I am talking about just give far too much slop for a rear dove tail.... those companies need to get more specific tolerances instead of universal.

    I bought a Vortex Venom, but I haven't installed it yet, it's going to be on a dove-tail mount on a HK USP 9mm. Is there an actual use of the two small vertical white lines just behind the optic, and near the top adjust dial? Given that my set up, I will have to sacrifice my rear ironsights to install the dove-tail mount, I wondered if the two white vertical lines can be of any use.

    What about the battery sitting in there? it doesn't seem like there's any upward pressure and so can't get it to turn on.

    • @VortexOpticsUSA
      @VortexOpticsUSA  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Referring to the Viper? There should be plenty of upward pressure. We have seen in the past where a milled slide will have recoil lugs that are milled barely too tall and they push the sight up a little bit and remove some of the upward pressure. If those get sanded down a bit to the correct height, we have never had an issue there. Hope this helps! - Jimmy H jchamilton@vortexoptics.com

    What are the differences between the Viper, the Venom and the Razor? Which would be the better option for the Glock 19 Gen 4 MOS?

    • @VortexOpticsUSA
      @VortexOpticsUSA  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Viper sits the lowest, uses a 6 MOA Dot and has a bottom-load battery. Venom sits up a bit higher than the Viper, but has a top load battery. Finally, the Razor sits the highest of all and is available 6 MOA or 3 MOA and probably has the thickest and most over-built body of them all. Generally, I would prefer the Viper Red Dot because it sits the lowest, but all work great. Hope this helps! - Jimmy H jchamilton@vortexoptics.com

    • @VortexOpticsUSA
      @VortexOpticsUSA  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are actually both quite similar in battery life. Granted - the Venom is a top load battery and the Viper is bottom load, so when the time comes to change, there will be a difference there. As far as recommendation for a pistol - If co-witness isn't very important, then I'd say go Venom. In order to get that co-witness, we need to make the Viper a bottom-load battery. For some, that's a perfectly fine tradeoff in order to get the co-witness. For others that aren't concerned with co-witness, that can be kind of an annoyance.Hope this helps! - Jimmy H jchamilton@vortexoptics.com

      Vortex Optics hey i have a new question. i ended buying both optics because i liked both. are there any iron sights that can be co witnessed or used when the vortex venom is mounted to a glock 19 gen 3? im going to have my slide milled for one of those two optics. also since they have the same footprint, would i be able to switch between the venom to the viper?

    • @VortexOpticsUSA
      @VortexOpticsUSA  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The only "irons" we've seen that can co-witness with the Venom would be the ones on the Dueck Defense dovetail mount. Check it out to see what we mean. As far as milling a Glock, you'll need to go with some extra tall suppressor height sights to co-witness with a Viper. Can't do it with the Venom. When you mill it, it you want to switch optics around, make sure you mill it for the Venom - the Viper will fit on a Venom cut, but the Venom will not fit in a Viper-specific cut (The Venom is just slightly longer in footprint) - Jimmy H jchamilton@vortexoptics.com

      Thanks for your reply, the Venom is great combo with my Ruger Mark IV 22/45 LITE , I can shoot a 1 inch group rest at 25 yard. I have to practice off hand for red dot sight, Also I have a old Fastfire 1st Gen red dot sight, I bought over 7 year's ago, It don't work any more, I call up Fastfire customer service, they are going to replace with Fastfire III, so I can install my Mark III hunter, I like the Venom better.

      What rear dovetail profile does the rear sight use? You could look into a mount that knocks the rear sight out of the way (Not a permanent modification) and replaces it with a dovetail red dot mount. Evolution Gun Works (EGW) makes some of these and could possibly help you out.

      It appears there are some optics mounts out there for those pistols. With a pic rail or some kind of direct mount application for our red dots/Burris Fastfire red dots or Docter red dots, it would mount up just fine.

      +TubeDobs - we offer the Venom in 3moa and 6 moa, but the Viper was designed to sit low, co-witness irons, and be a good optic for carrying, that gives fast target acquisition and a bright enough dot to pick up quickly in any lighting. -RJ (Raleckson@vortexoptics.com)

    Your reasons for a red dot on a pistol are nonsense. The ACTUAL reason is that it allows the shooter to focus the sight AND the target simultaneously. Especially for people over 50 this can be a real problem. I mounted one on my Walther Q5 Match 9mm and it reduced the size of my patterns from about 6" to 4 " at 25'. I also use a laser blank in my office to practice without wasting ammo.

    • @VortexOpticsUSA
      @VortexOpticsUSA  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wilhelm Taylor That is another reason to do it, yes. Truth is - there are very many reasons to mount a red dot to a pistol. Less things at different focal planes to focus on, no need to line a front and a rear sight up, a brighter point of aim to pick up more quickly, etc.

    I don't get it? all you people seem smart and intelligent?
    but that's the worst place to mount your $200-$400.......
    sometimes almost HALF A GRAND red dot! but if you have that kinda money to throw away, send it to me! I don't car how good they say that red dot is.....it will surely, and shortly FAIL! with all that slamming back and forth, something is going to let go! plus with every shot, you almost always have to reacquire your target!!! most handguns now have a picatinny rail on the bottom! that's when you pick up the rail attachment from Fab-defense, then simply mount your red dot on top......done!
    now your red dot stays in place, and the only thing moving is your slide! and you didn't have to pay a gunsmith all that money to mill your slide! I have this setup on all my walther PPQ's! they work fabulous!
