- This is a sew along for my easy DOUBLE OVEN MITTS/GLOVES. Hope you give them a try!
YOU WILL NEED;
Fabric - Cotton (You can use fat quarters but because of the length you will need a join in the centre)
Cotton Batting
Heat Protector - I used Insul Bright but Hemline do a Heat resistant sew in wadding that doesn't have a noise! PLEASE ALWAYS refer to the usage instructions of the Heat Resistant wadding.
Wide Bias Binding or Fabric for at least 2 metres of binding for the outside and edges of pockets.
Fabric for Loop - 6" x 3" (15cm x 8cm) Could also be twill tape or strong ribbon.
CUTTING MEASUREMENTS;
Long Piece 36" x 8" (92cm x 23cm)
Cut 2 in Fabric, 1 in batting and 1 in Heat resistant wadding
Pocket Piece (To be divided into 2 pockets) 20" x 8" (51cm x 23cm)
Cut 2 in fabric, 1 in batting and 1 in Heat resistant wadding
Binding - AT LEAST 84" or 2 metres of Wide Binding ( I cut mine to 2 1/2 ")
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS;
Appx - 35" x 7 1/2" ( 88cm x 19cm)
Pocket Depth - 8 1/2 " (22cm)
Gap Between Pockets - 16 1/2" (42cm)
TUTORIAL FOR JOINING BINDING ENDS
I use - • Quilt Binding Connec...
or the lovely Izzy from @dizzyquiltsandsews has a great tutorial -
• Quilt Binding #tutorial
I quilted mine with 2" squares, the option to quilt or not is entirely yours!
Have fun with this project and any questions please don't hesitate to ask.
Please remember this is a fun project and I am not a pattern designer. I have been as accurate with measurements as I can be and at the end of the day, size doesn't matter it is the heat protecting that counts!
Happy Sewing

Great tutorial, Carole! This makes a nice gift!! OH, and, yes, you really are a quilter!
Thanks Deb, I take that as a compliment as you are a very accomplished quilter! I don't mind little quilting projects but my patience isn't great for anything larger....or my accuracy!! Take care xxx😘
Hi, Carole! We are such twins! I make my oven gloves exactly the same way, right down to the binding! I love that pattern, it’s a great stash buster and they make great gifts, especially for Christmas. Thanks, take care.😊
Now that is a real compliment Sue! It shows I am on the right lines for making them from an expert. They are a great stash buster you are right as you could always quilt pieces together. Thanks for watching 🧵😊
@@socarole66 , oh, Carole, I’m not an expert! I am just like you, still learning every day, but thanks so much for the compliment! 🤣
Thank you Carole. I'm definitely going to give this a go.👍

Hi Carole! I'm joining the oven mitts for Christmas crowd and will be making 6. 7 if I make a pair for me. Maybe the first pair will be mine. I've decided I will be starting today. And you are right. This will be a great stash buster. Thank-you SEW much! 🎁🎅 Bernadette

Thanks so much Izzy, I hope you didn't mind me linking your video even though I forgot to mention your channel 😅. Tutorials are so hard to film aren't they!! Now Katie wants some 'Ariel' ones 😂. Have a great week 🧵😊
@@socarole66 I don’t mind at all! Tutorials are a nightmare to film 😂 Well you better get searching for Ariel fabric then!! 🤣
Hi Carol, those are great. Super tutorial! I'll make a pair using your instructions. Thanks!

Awww thank you for doing a tutorial for these. I definitely want to make some 🤩 Kxxx
Honestly they are so much fun Kelly! I am using mine and trying not to get little Piglet dirty 😂. Thanks for watching xxx💗
@@socarole66 our oven gloves always get so dirty, I am very concerned for piglet and friends. At some point I am going to buy some of that heat resistant layer and follow this tutorial, so thank you for taking the time to make it. I always enjoy your vlogs Carole. Kxxx
That was fun, Carole. I’ve been making Halloween coasters over the weekend, that have some quilting.. I’m not a quilter, but I enjoy small quilted projects. Have a good week! 😊-Deborah
Thank you so much for watching Deborah. I love little small quilted projects too as you might have guessed. I have been tackling the Charity shop quilt I got all weekend and I am really not enjoying it 😂. Your Halloween coasters sound much more fun. 🧵😊
They look lovely 🥰 generally I struggle with oven gloves so I make just squares quilted I didn’t put the thermal in them I doubled the cotton batting and they are more flexible
Thanks so much Sandra. I did use these for the first time tonight (trying not to get them dirty) and actually I was surprised how flexible they were. I had made them before but for others. Double batting would be fine I am sure! 🧵😊
Great sew a long Carole. Thank you very much.
Thank you very much Mary, glad you enjoyed it. 🧵😊
Carol those are beautiful and you did a great job with the tutorial! I thought I posted a message and it disappeared so I'm doing it again.
Aww thanks so much Zelda. I am still such an amateur at tutorials! 🧵😊
Hi Carole!! You do an awesome tutorial and I am now inspired to make some for gifts!!! I better get cracking😂 can I ask, why do you prefer these to a plain potholder? I would imagine they also protect your arms? I’ve never used this kind, so now I need some 😂 Happy sewing 🧵 ❤❤❤xx
Hi Mary. Well I have to say, pot holders aren't really a thing over here in the UK We all tend to use the double oven mitts, no idea why! I love having both hands protected as I always get a Sunday Roast Burn if I don't 😂. Thanks so much for being so kinds xxxx.
Thank you Carole. I'm definitely going to give this a go.👍
