Appreciate you putting this together. Lots to dig through! I personally really enjoyed Small Medium Large by SML (International Anthem really had a great year!) and the new Patricia Brennan album, Breaking Stretch.

An excellent move to promote living lesser known jazz musicians and the smaller but ambitious labels rather than „riding the old jazz (audiophile) reissues horse“ year around.
There’s so much to be discovered that the excitement goes deeper and lasts way longer than what all of these ever increasing Blue Note Classics and Tone Poets, Acoustic Sounds, Craft, Impex, reissues for shelves possibly can.
Plumb, International Anthems, Sabbagh, … all spot on! Many thanks!

Agreed 100%. Please do more about current artists. We don't need another youtuber rambling about the 100th reissue of a lee morgan blue note. these records are great, but I would prefer to hear about new and exciting stuff, that flies under the radar. And there are literally 100s of guys talking about tone poets and the like. We don't need another one of them. Please keep this direction :)

Excellent. Essentially a top twenty four. The honorable mentions are all stellar. My personal favorite from 2024 is 11:11 from the Portuguese bassist Carlos Bica. Superb. Oh wait. Devin Daniels was a remarkable voice in Herbie Hancock's (80 years young) band which really delivered at Big Ears last March. 2024 was a great year in music.

I saw Vijay Iyer Trio at Fasching in Stockholm in October. Fantastic concert!! Over two hours of pure magic!! It was with Jeremy Dutton on drums. I had never heard of him before the concert. He was a very good drummer. Linda May Han was a fantastic bass player and Vijay is my favorite contemporary piano player. I hope to get the oportunity to see Tyshawn Sorey some day..... Thank you for your great channel!

Amaro Freitas Y’Y is pronounced eey-eh eey-eh, the word for ‘water’ or ‘river’ in the dialect of the Sateré Mawé people of Amazonas (Source Jazzzwise). Also the Passacaglia album is pronounced pa-sa-ca-li-a and is an Italian musical term originating from Spanish Passacalle and it's a form of courtly dance. Thanks for your annual picks and suggestions.

What a great upload! My only critique is the lack of releases from the burgeoning British Jazz scene, which you reference. Shabaka Hutchings and Andy Hay are in there but Ezra Collective, Nubya Garcia and Ashley Henry released incredible albums during 2024 and it’s puzzling they don’t even make your honourable mentions list.

Nice list -- thanks for sharing WCB! Surprised you have so much trouble getting the Baldych ACT release in the USA. ACT are such a massive German label (almost of ECM proportions), one would have thought they would be ubiquitous where you are. Alas... All the best for 2025!

Btw, would totally recommend Adam Baldych & the Baltic Gang from 2012 (on ACT): Imaginary Room. Outstanding modern jazz, and an album I frequently return to. I think that's a good acid test for an album's quality!
