  • I love you all.
    MASSIVE DISCLAIMER HOLY SHIT
I COMPLETELY forgot about my time spent in Germany, I'm sorry holy FUCK. Dennis and the rest of the crew at TakeTV are AWESOME dudes and DEFINITELY gave me opportunities in the SC2 community that I wouldn't have gotten otherwise, and I genuinely believe he was an awesome dude (Dennis) for doing so. Paid flight/hotel and everything, I super super super appreciate my time spent over there, I'm actually embarrassed as fuck that I forgot to mention it in this video.
It really really bothers me that that somehow completely eluded my mind, fuck me, I really do appreciate what Homestory Cup and Dennis did for me. The caster that works (worked?) with them, Naruto, did a fuck-ton to help me as well with my Destiny tournament on one of the casting days. Maybe it's just German people that are friendly, I'll try to associate more with them in the future. :^)

I appreciate you opening up like this Destiny, it really brings some light into a lot of the behind the scenes stuff that we don't see when you're streaming.
Didn't really realize how much of a lone avid business person you were considering all odds were against you and youwere able to overcome a lot of this by yourself and build your own livelihood for you and eventually Nathan.
I don't think that you're being overly emotional, it makes sense when for the entirety of your stay in the starcraft community was filled with people bullshitting you and not putting in as much as you were.
I think it's justified that you don't want to become involved with all of these people because you've built something that took years of hard work by yourself, so don't feel like you're an asshole for not wanting to be re-involved with them.

I went through half of my years in school with destiny's stream playing constantly. I was there for Mia, the "personal pictures", the cam girl, and I've seen Nathan grow up basically, and I still check TH-cam daily and run the stream whenever I'm doing anything on the PC...
And I feel like there are a lot of people here that have the same history. Somehow Destiny was able to build a fanbase that has a lot of people that are there solely for him. I mean - Destiny's way better at Starcraft than most people will ever be, but I don't think he attracted people for being one of the best Starcraft pros, y'know? We love the memes that are born and we love the meme master that makes them.

You have a personality that at times can become very grating. I can only speak as a viewer that has been following you for a couple of years now. But in my case every time I've shared a piece of information or some new content that I think you would enjoy, every single instance of that was dismissed with hatred, or at best a quick "No, fuck off".
Human interaction is a two-way street. I absolutely feel you, you haven't had it easy, I know, but try to see your self from the outside looking in every once in a while, especially with the way you treat people who don't necessarily have anything of value to give you or that you don't stand to gain anything from.

Been watching you since ustream days my dude(which was 6 years ago holy shit). Crazy to think you would ever make it this far, from an autistic zerg player raging at patch terrans to a 'media personality'.
If i were in your shoes, personally i would tell these people to go blow themselves. As you said they never lifted a finger to help you and were more than happy to throw you to the wayside if it benefited themselves or if you could cause detriment. That is not what a friend does, so they do not deserve to benefit from their friendship with you. Although if you wish to be pragmatic and view this in the sense of business, a mutual benefit must be produced from the relationship. If this person(s) will increase the entertainment value or exposure of the stream without leeching viewers, whilst simultaneously gaining exposure and potential viewers for themselves, i cannot see the detriment in allowing them on. This is as always the line you must always walk, principles or pragmatism.

These days it's nice to be able to tune in to a stream that was just the same as back in 2013. Seem like Twitch is at the point where TH-cam was when blowing up, and there are so many "professional" streamers (markipliers) with a full clichè setup with notifications for everything.
I just wanna be entertained and I don't need anyone to force that..

I know these feels. The SC2 community (outside of the game) is toxic as fuck. Regardless of how goody good or nice personalities in the scene act most of SC2 people seem greedy af underneath their facades and will eat their own for their own interests and $$$. They all just want their own piece of the "SC2 pie" and it's even worse since the game is near dead atm so there's not even much pie left over, which makes people more desperate. It was even worse at the game's height like you described when there was basically the "old guy's club" that you had to break into.
Sad thing is it's the same thing nowadays just a "new guys club" instead, but instead of fighting over the badass Ferrari that SC2 used to be they're just fighting over bread crumbs and a paper boat. SC2 never learns lol. It's probably a reason why the community shrunk quite a bit over the years compared to what it used to be. Instead of everyone wishing success to other players and personalities in the community for years it feels like everyone just wanted everyone else to fail.
Everything you mentioned in this video is why myself and a lot of other people have a lot of respect for you. I also took the same lone wolf approach you took specifically with regards to SC2 streaming because it has always felt like networking with SC2 people there'll be a knife in your back at some point lol xD

  • @MartinSlow
    @MartinSlow 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

Hey Destiny, here is my advice on the matter which I will follow up with a little backstory as to why I choose to take this stance:
Try one. Take them aboard, but make sure they understand how what they did made your situation look like. Their point of view would have been massively different from yours and that is not an excuse, it is how life is. I would also expect that you, at the time, did not make it clear to them in a civil talk. The reason this is important is that there is a chance that you have a lot to gain as they will know that you appreciate their help and want them to be concious about your needs as well as their own, as you were to theirs in the past. But just tell him/her how you felt and see if they realize the last part by themselves.
Now, for my reason for giving this advice: I was studying with a friend in a university and we shared a group of friends that we hung out with. I started going out with one of the girls and my life was awesome, but suddenly over christmas break none of my friends wanted to talk to me or hang out anymore. I didn't understand anything, even her and my good friend who was also a childhood friend didn't respond to my messages and when in class they always sat down away from me with a guy I'd never seen before. After 2 months of this friendless clueless hell I was told that he was an ex of the girl and that it would be awkward if I showed up when he was there. And he was always there... In short those 6 months fucked me hard mentally and I was "saved" when another friend from home moved to the uni and started there and asked if I wanted to live with him. That was awesome and I can really relate to how it is when that doesn't happen for a long time. Anyways after a year or so I started talking to the friend who had stopped answering my calls and all. We talked a lot now and then and over about 3-6 months we figured out eachothers side of the story and he was very sorry about what had happened. He appologized a lot and has been a good friend ever since. Now 5 years later we are very good friends and he really makes sure to pay attention to me like a real friend which feels very good. People don't want to be evil to you, they just don't understand how evil what they do can be to you. So just try to make them understand that they owe you something and you owe them nothing from your point of view, but you are willing to cooperate or help because you want them to succeed and you think that they have the potential to give you something.
Hope this helps, and ye I'm not a memer like most of your viewers. My jokes are way too bad for that stuff.

Good shit, dude. I can empathize with a lot of your situations/sentiments, especially the helping people and wanting them to succeed without necessarily getting anything back, or the figuring out things on your own (though maybe to a lesser extent). I don't know you personally, so I can't say anything about your relationships, but I have troubles opening up to people and like to keep an emotional distance. You may naturally have "thick skin", but I hope you're not doing something similar to me and simply blocking off your feelings towards/around people, because in the long run it can have its own problems. You seem pretty content with streaming and life in general, so maybe I'm completely off-base in which case disregard my comment, I'm not trying to diagnose you with anything. Anyway I love your content, especially the talks, looking forward to more.

I remember the Root incident being a lot more damaging than you portray it in the video. Mind you, it's been a long time, and you'd clearly have a more vivid memory. CatZ had his own set of problems, and he dealt with them the way he knew how -- he isn't perfect. You talk about being financially responsible in relation to MLG. What would the responsibility look like if you were managing a team that had a public relations nightmare?
I'd suggest considering all aspects at a time when you're hyper-rational, as you seem to be in a more emotional state of mind. I'm not saying you're wrong. I'm simply saying step back and make certain you're not having one-dimensional views.

      1. It's about finding an ethical reason not to that it not based on gut feeling. Go watch his extended discussion about incest, where he shows valid and non-valid arguments against it (you won't).
      2. Laughing is not the same as finding something funny. He regrets it. I'm sure you never laughed about anything bad that happened, or did you?
      3. What is wrong with that statement? There is a clear difference.
      4. I don't know the context, sounds like Destiny fuckery to me though. Then again, I'm sure you are not aware of the context either.
      5. Is it? You seem to claim it is. Why?
Anyway, good job on summarizing naked ape's totally not salty very well supported video that was made directly after he got hung up on by Destiny for being impossible to talk to.

    • @Aedalor
      @Aedalor 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

Yeah, that gun thing was my only point. Take the one point where I explicitly express no contextual knowledge. That seems like the brave man's approach. And the whole laughing thing: Yes, I said that people ONLY laugh as a way to cope with something. Oh wait, I did not. I never claimed that. Way to deliberately straw-man an argument.
      My actual claims were:
      - I don't know the context, but it sounds like fuckery (you know, the kind of banter that may be out of line but it not an actual threat or admission of guilt? Note that I, once again, prefaced this by stating ignorance on the specifics (just like you).
      - You can laugh at things that hurt you.
Which one of those is impossible to accept and why? Try not coming back with sarcasm and talking about God etc.
On a side note (so don't make the entire response just about this comment), if you don't care that people like Destiny, why did you comment such a toxic attack on a comment stating that he is cute?

    • @SAIZOxRYOMA

My problem is that without knowing anything else but that quote that was mined by somebody, you equate getting a gun permit (which I'm against in all cases) with intending to kill somebody, because it fits the narrative of a wacky Destiny.
I don't object to pointing out faults of Destiny. There have been plenty of them in the past. My problem is that you clearly went in here with your opinion already solidified by watching some youtube videos that criticized him just to step on people's toes. In addition, most of the quotes were not bad ones at all, if you include just the slightest of context other than the one sentence posted.
Now you can call me a echo-chamber dwelling, God worshopping fanatic. I can say that I'm not but you won't believe me anyway, because I challenged your claims and therefore fit your mental glove of being a cucked SJW. If I'd tell you I actively avoid circle jerking in conversations that wouldn't help either: I'm sure I'd either be bad company to talk with or lying.
But have fun in attacking Destiny as a response on random comments and insulting anyone who defends him against you malformed attacks.

You talked about how Steel and Hafu helped you with some sponsor stuff despite them not really knowing you very well, and not really having too much to gain from it. I think they just did it because they were kind. I guess I do think that you should help these people from the past that are reaching out to you. I'm sure if you had the opportunity you would pay back Steel and Hafu with something similar, so maybe you just have to trust that the people you help will keep what you did in the back of their minds.

The thing Steven doesn't understand is, though yes he may have been super popular, he was super controversial. So much so that he was probably quite the liability and a gamble to try to defend. It's easy for him to vilify the teams he was on or around now that he sits on mount hindsight, and yet he takes no responsibility for the massive baggage he dragged around with him. It's too bad because I, and I would imagine many others are still fans of both Catz and Destiny, though shit happens, and all must end I suppose.

Be more emotional, I think it'll be healthier for you, more than you might think. Sometimes I can't help but feel like you seem to be holding back or bottling up emotions although I know you've talked about how you aren't in the past. I just wish you the best, get in touch with your feelios. It'll probably help with trying to undestand other peoples feelings better, which I know you strive for.
You seem mostly reasonable in this video, although I reckon most of it is just due to the nature of how the game is played in the world of fame. And alot of people probably feel the same way about being left alone playing the famegame, it's often talked alot about in interviews of biographies of famed people. It's probably why alot of popular people also always tend to put alot of effort into building contacts and bridges, not saying you haven't, but they've probably heard or learnt how important it is, or can be. I've also seen this being suggested alot when people looking to grow a following or get growing are asking for advice.
Keep at it with the memes, ignore the ear comments, and stay smart. I love you, be careful.♥

I actually identify with a lot of this, and I bet a lot of your other viewers do too.
I don't mean the particulars of your e-sports/based meme god life, but instead the perspective of growing up and having to fend for yourself, not having a group of people feeding you how-tos, and developing a certain work ethic (while still being able to be lazy)
This independent resourcefullness is definitely a source of strength and identity (unlike skin color or gender)

I can't believe you thought MLG would still want you to cast after no-showing their events! You were right to if they weren't paying you, but after after not doing the events it obviously sends a message that you don't want to cast for them.
Also Catz seems like a cool dude you shouldn't throw away a friendship just because it doesn't benefit your career.

man, you need to try the Destiny The Bungie Game community in twitch! one of the best if not the best! maybe when destiny 2 comes out in PC but if you want to be part of an awesome community Destiny (the bungie game) is awesome and i'm sure some of the big streamers right there would love to help you!

I think you've disregarded the persona you had when being an sc2 pro. I'm certain you never seeked out help because you never wanted to, not because it wasn't available. Also you were known for being "politically incorrect" and being quite bm to the community as a whole. So giving you the luxury of casting tournaments or propping you up to be the best of the best of the community would have been a mistake.

Seems like Destiny see a difference between professional relationships and personal relationships. I guess from CatZ perspective he thought they were real friends, but Destiny always saw him as a professional connection.

I'm gonna go all out Freud here.
You don't have a life that's sperated from your work, others do. Most people have their work, hobby and personal life separated, you don't.
You want what's essentially your colleagues to be loyal childhood friends, social buddies and perhaps even family, so you find their support lacking when they don't live up to that expectation.
That's probably why you've been successful as well. You eat, sleep and shit at work. All you do is work and you don't even realize it.

Haha badass , nothings perfect but always good to see someone positively build on individuality in strange ways.
That said it is not always a sustainable method to go it alone! Managing people for ones own gain seems to require a sense of that individuality going it alone...but I wonder if it is emotionally stable or mentally healthy. Pioneering into gaming seems to be most sustainable when one can be the rockstar that nobody remembers is a rockstar . Political Divisions and having enemies takes the focus off the “easy money” sure seems to be helping the trump herd however.

Would you ever do a best of Starcraft like a diary from start to finish with video snippets as I've only really got back in to MMOs since getting a PS4, I played Legend of Mir, Ultima online and Star Wars Galaxies till my old HP died. So I have an interest in these games and there culture recently I've got in to DC Universe online and Star Trek online, and soon I'll be doing the Riddle of Steel on Conan Outcasts. So if you did do a video series on the subject I'd watch it.
