i've never heard of richard lewis before but this dude needs to continue doing what he's doing because he's one of the best interviewers i've ever seen
Great interview! Always great to see good questions asked to smart individuals that bring up good points. Though many may not agree with everything that was said, at least the conversation had substance. Thank you for uploading this!
this is a serious nostalgia hit.. RL with hair, destiny and the N-word arc, totalbiscuit being considered a "controversial guy", by destiny... time flies EDIT: damn, I never knew destiny was anti-sjw publicly before it was the "cool" thing to be, who knew
The thing about Kennigit, he wasn't saying that you can't have girls as being the sex appeal, but just don't make them your focus as they retract from the players. This can be easily accomplished by camera and people positioning.
Great interview. Probing the right questions, not afraid to bring up something offensive. When he asked for brutal honesty, I knew there would be actual substance and not just the pointless "hope i did better" bull shit. A few nervous stutters but those go away with time. +1 to the interviewer
While this definitely didn't age well, it's still a wicked throwback to the days when everybody casually slinging around f-bombs and hard Rs like it was just edgy speech. With more value we place into words the more personal it's meaning carries (intentionally or not). I wouldn't want to enable anyone using or weaponizing these words, but there is a important message behind this that's still relevant today that CONTEXT matters.
You believing that you "enable" others to say words show what a narcissist you are. Also "weaponizing words"? Words are not violence; speech is not violence. Destiny had the correct take here. You are a sad little child.
Only thing I really disagree with is how he thinks being nice to everybody is something you wouldn't want to do. That's the best thing you can do and more people should do it.
While I agree with him about colloquially slang, I disagree about language as a whole. Using certain language can perpetuate ideologies no matter what Steven thinks. There's a huge ideological difference between "Pro-choice" and "Pro-life" or "gay rights" and "sanctity of marriage." Here's a really common example: look up a political or controversial story on some far left wing media outlet and some far right wing media outlet. The language they use is pushing an idealogy one way or another.
Cadred please send this guy to every fucking event out there, he is bloody excellent. Brilliant job lads, can't fault this shit, please keep doing more of this.
Destiny is the first one to say that he doesn't blame the 'community'. Like what he said at the end of the interview he believes that everybody is a human and that there is always going to be someone who isn't happy with something that is going on and it is okay for them to email sponsors and voice your opinion to get things done. It is the sponsors fault for anything to go wrong and how those opinions are viewed themselves. Don't blame the people for having an opinion basically.
this interview changed my opinion on words having intrinsic meaning, and about how to react to homophobia and racism. I'm still not gonna start calling people "mah nigga" and "such a faggot" but Steven is such a smart guy
Of course, the language of left/right wing outlets perpetuate ideologies: one of the purposes of those outlets is to perpetuate their respective ideologies. One of Destiny's main points was that language meaning is contextually dependent and consequently, not all words perpetuate ideologies. What you're saying is consistent with that, so there's no disagreement.
Yes there is a huge difference in everything when someone is called a terrorist or a freedom fighter, and destiny should act. understand and get that``
it's not that he doesn't understand what he's saying at all. it's just that a demographic of people are only going to hear the insulting side of these words are close minded. these words have more then one meaning even if the general consensus believes they words are used to hurts. In no way do I see Destiny as a hero for speaking his mind, but i hear what he says even through the profanity and earned my respect and of many others.
Where do you draw the line? Destiny brought up this point in one of his earlier videos when this happened a long time ago - what about the many people who have had their family members murdered? Do you not use the word "murder" on stream because they might take offense to how casually it's being used? What about the Japanese and nuclear bomb?
Saying that you shouldn't use the words because some people can only see them as being homophobic, is different from saying that the words are actually homophobic, or hate speech. I can understand not using the words because people will misunderstand you, but that doesn't mean that the words you're using are actually hate speech. Someone telling me that a word is "offensive" to them is one of the least meaningful things they can say, because It's just a cover for what their actual grievance is.
destiny is a boss, fav gaming personality after i used to not like him at all. SC is lucky to have such an entertaining and intelligent figure in its community.
This is kind of weird though, because Destiny IS working with his viewers. His stream is literally 5000 viewers who had to get by the "18+ and offensive language" warning to see him. I think it's just people who are trying to look for trouble. Destiny said that he would never say anything like this on a tournament stream or in a tournament game when the audience is more than just his own fans. I understand your earlier point though.
That is not the point. There will ALWAYS be someone who is not happy with something and Destiny said on stream multiple times that it is just a part of being a person and to not get all pissed off when someone wants something to change. Not everybody can turn the other cheek and the only thing worse than the people who get pissed at someone for saying nigger is the other person getting pissed at them. Destiny has said something to that effect multiple times.
I don't know why Destiny gets so much respect. I've watched his streams and casts of his games, and I often see him getting absolutely and decisively destroyed by people I've never even heard of. All he does is slag off every other player who isn't him, as well as being racist and generally rude. He has a misplaced superiority complex because he's definitely not the best.
I respect Destiny but i feal he is pretty much a hypocrite and awfully wrong with his view on the connection between language and peoples understanding on reality. I think as an intell. Person he would change his mind on that if he would read into discourse analysis esp. studies concerning how language can influence the way we act. One good example would be "'teun a von dijk'" for example on "racism in the press" Another good read on this is m. foucault or jUrgen link.
The community aren't intelligent, this guy is, just look at the bell curve. This guy is near the top, and unfortunately when you become a famous figure that sometimes means that you have to deal with the general ignorance and stupidity of the mob, which is exactly what we've seen happen to Destiny. Luckily he came out of it ok though, so its not the end of the world.
Not really his cause, it really wouldn't come up if it weren't for all the children going "You aren't allowed to make this kind of content on the internet!" His cause is putting on a good show by being himself.
I call him a hypocrite cause he often mentions that as long as you are not studied in a filed or expert on something aka have done your research, you do not have much valid to say about a topic, on the same token he recently speaks more about stuff he seams to know not much about, than about sc2. Its sad that this wired ass wrong view is at that point part of his "Image" with which he makes good money, so even if he at some point in his life might get it, he ll prob stay the same on stream.
In all honestly people take it upon themselves to try and be the "white knights" of the internet. Many of them feel responsible for the actions of another person, and pursue to have them seen to judgement. It's actually baffling that people will find Destiny (seeing as he isn't a top tier player, his play isn't known to everyone) to judge or attack him. It's like we have a bunch of priests pursuing there ideal of equality, if you don't like him then don't watch him...
I am deep in the Destiny Iceberg holy shit 😂
you and me both my friend
what was the controversy they’re talking about at the start?
I see the n-word saga goes really deep lmao
my man's drip hasn't changed either LOL
@@MoshMoshx Destiny dresses much better today.
I honestly wasn't prepared to hear Destiny dropping the hard-r HOLY SHIT HAHAHAHA

How was this recommended to me now?!
Me too. Very weird.
Reading these old comments is a trip, tho.
Loved these interviews. You guys have done a fantastic job asking questions/followups!

I want to see destiny from today debate destiny in this interview.
Great interview! Always great to see good questions asked to smart individuals that bring up good points. Though many may not agree with everything that was said, at least the conversation had substance. Thank you for uploading this!
Probably the best interview I've ever seen. This man needs to do more of these after HSC V.
I agree, but it's much better than having the opposite reaction which a lot of online communities would have.
Destiny's and RL's current twitter beef brought me here!
Best sc2 interview I've seen in a long time. Fantastic!
Jesus Christ! His power level is even higher than I thought!
Damn, keep this up dude. Really great interview; especially liked the way you pushed him for an answer for the last question.
Destiny makes for such a good interview object. So well spoken.
this is a serious nostalgia hit.. RL with hair, destiny and the N-word arc, totalbiscuit being considered a "controversial guy", by destiny... time flies
EDIT: damn, I never knew destiny was anti-sjw publicly before it was the "cool" thing to be, who knew
After what I saw on the HomeStory chat, I'd say his wishes have a strong foundation.
So much "I don't know." Someone mentioned this in his AMA, and I can't stop noticing it now haha.
Possibly the best interview in Starcraft this year?, Top work Cadred you earned another subscriber.

The thing about Kennigit, he wasn't saying that you can't have girls as being the sex appeal, but just don't make them your focus as they retract from the players. This can be easily accomplished by camera and people positioning.
i love destiny, so well spoken and decisive.

Yeah it's saddening but as the man himself says there are just some things we have to except from groups of humans.
