  • I am not a car mechanic but I was going to do a complete fluid change on my Volvo XC90 SPA and here is the third part of it.
If I can do it, I am sure anyone can do it too!

Well done on the video. I know the work which goes into trying to capture this process and you got some great angles which will help others. 👍🏾

Thanks, where can I get Vida and how much would it cost?

I did this on my XC70 yesterday so it is still very fresh in my mind. My transmission fluid was filthy, I don't believe it has been changed before (Car has done 180,000kM). I have a VDD dongle from D5T5 so I can read transmission temperature on my phone. Unfortunately my driveway is bad for cellular coverage so I ended up guessing. A laser thermometer should work well though. Plenty of other little maintenance jobs to do, have flushed the power steering, so next job with my AWD car will be Haldex and rear differential.

@@g0fvt I need to google that VDD dongle then.

I honestly don't know about the counter, would it matter if I don't reset it?

@@eyhpoonThe Transmission Control Module (TCM) registers ATF temperatures above a certain threshold.
As the count increases over time, the TCM will modify the change profile to compensate for the age and condition of the fluid.
You now have new fluid in which can handle higher temperatures but the TCM doesn't know this so the old fluid temperature counts are being added to the new fluid count.
This means that the TCM could eventually be using a sub optimal change profile unnecessarily and prematurely.
All of the above is dependant on transmission fluid history and individual conditions so none of it may be *absolutely necessary* or all of it will be absolutely essential. I don't know your exact circumstances but there is a process.
Likewise with the fluid temperature. That temperature range means the fluid is at a specific volume.
Too cool, you won't drain enough when setting the level, too hot, you may drain too much. Whether you do all this is personal choice but from experience of doing work myself, I do it like the manufacturer says unless I have a really good reason to be different.
The reset process is shown in my video here along with a fluid change on a similar gearbox. th-cam.com/video/YaQ5VsCfMDo/w-d-xo.html
      Hope that helps.
