we test out this 25th anniversary 2012 HSV VE E3 GTS. this special limited edition is one of only 125 for all of Australia!
This car was a perfect weekend warrior and as it sat was very very fun to drive! i'm glad the owner has not gone to crazy with this car as it is a limited edition it's nice to see it still in its mostly original form.
I love my Fords but man did holden/HSV get it right when they made the VE... these cars feel really well made inside and out & the drive is second to none..

We got the predecessor to this in the states, if you got the Pontiac G8 with the GXP trim level. with the FE3 suspension and same 6.2L V8. But the GTS had more refinements. You did take the G8's hood/bonnet though. With those sexy hood scoops. And the G8 was just a Holden Commodore. Fantastic vehicle, I'm happy to own the American version. Which as far as I know they took the Commodore and slapped on a different hood and front bumper and called it good.

Say what you will about Barra vs ls. But the VE series 2 and up completely shit on the FG models inside and out imo
their is a good argument there i would agree comparing the XR8.. i think the only thing the barra can claim is its more easily tunable to make it lighting quick..

@@RossReviewsau LS3's are just as easy to tune for big power, don't be fooled by the barras fanboys the cost of making power in both engines is about the same.

I still favour the VE over the VF, but then it's my daily, so I guess I would. Great review Jon, even if you failed to smoke the bags.

@@RossReviewsau As I mentioned way back, the VE was the first Australian car that was intentionally engineered for the American market, so they made sure they got it right, and it really does show in every department. I love both Holden and Ford, but the VE nudged itself ahead of the BF, which I have as well. As for the launch ..... let's not linger! Find something with a line-locker and deposit a bit of rubber on those Cockburn roads. Onya mate.
@@beaugunn2632 I run a linelocker on my daily it works great i haven't had to buy rear disc since. I do think everyone should run linelockers. I have one to give Jon when his ready haha.

That are a really nice package..,370rwhp is more than enough for the streets.. sounds tuff as., I’ve got a turbo falcon at around the rwhp and not manny beat me around the streets.. any more hp and it’s big big coin

How much it cost?
(For 2023- 2024)
Anyone notice the outer grove on the right front rotor, made by the pads. lol :) OTR 3" exhaust as well and a tune done and cam as well, the sound is not stock full stop, maybe around a extra 50 to 70 RWKW based on what i can see, easy, had a chance to buy a 2012 E3 Burgundy with white HSV seats and it had a walkinshaw intake and tune etc etc, yet when i took it for a test drive ( mind you it had 38,000 KM) my series 1 redline would eat it up, also had no bi modal exhaust which is functioning, when in performance mode and my son filmed it ,you could haer a pin drop as i drove by at full revs as well and he wanted 52K for it, i said nope, plus still have the factory fitted pads, the car looked and still had the new car smell but went like a 6 and not a 340KW approx at the fly tuned by walkingshaw engine.:)

I wonder if I can import one to the U.S. I don't really like the Pontiac GTO, G8 or Chevrolet SS here in California. I like the HSV's although it is a bit confusing keeping up with all the HSV models. I don't live in Australia so I don't know the difference between the various HSV acronyms. I think I can import the older 1996 model due to the U.S. 25 year rule but I want one of these newer ones.
HSV is basically Holden Special Vehicles... and its like the AMG version of Mercedes.. everything is just better with the HSV. you have the GTO the 2 door one witch is also here.. and you have the later model SS witch is a great car by the way.. just a shame you never got the HSV versions.. unfortunately you do have that 25 year rule tho i did see them importing utes of this same era on doug demeros channel.. wouldnt be the same thing but there could be a loophole somehow.. ps just send it to canada.. 15 year rule there

Considering it’s bassicly stock with Otr and a cat back that’s pretty good numbers if that was cammed it would soon turn those numbers up. , let alone boost lol
Owned one of them before. Had real big problems with the suspension an diff only done 70,000 Also the gearbox was weak 6 speed man. Did love the power but disappointed with shacks holden. Traded it for a xr8 290. Never been happier. Cheers ross for your reviews 👍

Ve e3? VE Series 3. The E3 denotes that it's an E series commodore. It's not a VE E3. Commodores always have been noted as V- followed by their series letter. This is the 3rd iteration of the E series commodore. Hence VE series 3.

Its not a Commodore , but a HSV E3 . My 08 Maloo is an E1 .
The 15 that went to NZ are from the 125
from what i was told n read there were 140.. 125 Aus 15 NZ but im not 100% sure

46k the cheapest with 140 thou kms at car yard another with same ks 55k+ private, when you buy second hand with low ks you are buying other people's problems then have to spend $, either brand new or 1 with 100ks + then owner had few things fix

Exhaust was on there when I bought it. I just put on high flow cats and vcm intake. Not bothered with the headers. It's just a cruiser.
Ross mate you need to learn how to talk australian, its head rests not headliner, which is the stuff above your head right through out the inner roof of the car? Also noticed ever car you have done, you have the specs wrong as well. cheers buddy and still love rockingham in WA. :)

its 370HP to the rear the owner told me.. not kW (very mild tune)

Have to agree with you. When u mash it, the top end it doesn't sound that nice. For some reason it sounds a lot nicer at half throttle. I don't drive it that hard so it's not a big problem 😃
