Look great. Stoked to see your larger shop and bigger machinery. I am still working on gathering all the tools for my first frame, I think I am going to go against the frame building gods and not build an elaborate jig.
Then frame building gods will demand a sacrifice! Jokes aside, that is a wise decision. I never really understood what makes a good fixture until after I made a few frames. Good luck!
I think we often berate ourselves for mistakes made in the past, I know I always used to. These days, I like to think about it all as a linear process of improvement that includes those mistakes. Mistakes aren't mistakes, they are part of the learning process. Further more, making 'mistakes' or 'failing' are often times such a mental boundary that many people don't even begin, so anyone out there making mistakes and beautiful hideous failures should give themselves a pat on the back. Oh and "we make frames not because it's easy but because we thought it would be easy" is such a funny truism that is applicable to many other contexts. Would make some good Pithy merch,.
I know some jigs use that method. It’s just a preference thing for me to have the spine of the jig at a constant zero. It can come in handy when other frame parts need to be measured.
It’s a little on the noisy side. And the fit and finish is a little rough. But don’t get me wrong it’s a good lathe and probably gets some unfair criticism. It’s got it where it counts. 😉
@@PithyBikes Noises are annoying during long processing time. On my Sieg SC4 I covered the inside of the gear box and the chip tray on the back side with bitumen mats, which are used in car doors, close all small gaps carefully. If you can use a thicker gear oil, try it. Replace a drive gear with a gear made from Delrin, for example, but this I didn't realise until now.
Yes it will and that will use the full length of the seat tube extrusion. Because the jig is modular and built on standard extrusion platform, you can simply purchase longer extrusions to accommodate any size frame.
I sometimes don’t use oil when power tapping so the chips clear more easily. The oil actually holds the chips in the grooves and gunks things up. But it all depends on the tap style and size of tap.
Thanks for the suggestion. I really appreciate this type of feedback because i have no idea how things sound for you guys. And im not an audio pro obviously! I’ll look into a cutoff filter. 👍
volume SOOOOOOO quiet!!?? I had the sound all the way up on the speakers, and all the way up on the Computer as well as you tube- your voice is very quiet in this one kiddo....
"but because we thought it would be easy" HHAAHA! LOVE this intro. So amazing
Holy shit. We're in for a ride people!
Beautiful work and description, as always, it is so good to have you producing these videos. 😊
Continuous Improvement at its finest!
Great Edit, not too long, but enough details💪 thank you for elevating community of makers
Terrific workmanship!
Great voice-over, especially the opening.

Sooo good to have you back!!
Boy it looks nice.

So so true. Love it.
Laughed out loud 😂
Fancy 🎉
15:39 Ahhhh, dude, round stock on a bandsaw 😱
Nice improvements though 👌
I should get a horizontal saw at this point.. I have the space now.
Have you considered building it so that the seat tube is indexed at 90 and everything is referenced off of that?

Nice rework. Why you are not happy with this lathe? At first glance look like a decent machine.

Interested in buying your plans, but will they accommodate a 62 cm frame? Thanks!

@@PithyBikes Thx. Bought the plans yesterday.
Slicker than a dolphins…
Why no oil when tapping?

@ got it,thx for reply.
Hey, is there any chance to buy the plans via paypal? Would be awesome ✌️
I’ll look into it and see if I can enable it.
... said no machinist ever :D
please put a cutoff filter to that voice

Did you use an AI voice thing?
😂
Haha no that’s just me doing a narration thing. But there were a few takes that sounded even more robotic! 🤖

Thanks for the feedback. I’ll try to fix that!
Aaawwwww yesssssssss
