    You definitely have to be careful as far as discussing pay. Most of the nurses are inspired but like sis said, there Is always that one nurse that sits back and envy you because you make more than them. So for that reason I do not discuss my pay with staff unless it’s another traveler.

    Girl your videos are sooo helpful and you’re so funny!! I’m wondering what specialty do you see being paid the highest? And how many years of experience do you recommend having before starting traveling? Also, is it difficult to manage paying for your housing in your home state if you’re always traveling? Since it’s like you’re paying for 2 places at once all the time

    • @SincerelyShannonSubcribe
      @SincerelyShannonSubcribe  ปีที่แล้ว +2

    • @SincerelyShannonSubcribe
      @SincerelyShannonSubcribe  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes Aya offers a 401k and they match. Most companies offer some type of retirement plan. Just depends on when they will allow you to contribute to it. I believe Aya is 90 days you can contribute and after a year or 1000 hours worked they start to match. But what has helped me is to get one general account ( like with Fidelity) and just transfer the funds from each of my retirement accounts into that main one

    I drove from Florida to Colorado for an ICU position. Then the hospital switches me to a med surge unit. What the heck? What is the purpose of signing a contract that states a primary area of work and then they just switch it on you? It happened to me so it could happen to you. Make sure that the area that you agreed upon to work in is the area that you are going to be oriented in. Or you could be in for a very unpleasant surprise. I am simply not a med-surg nurse!. The contract may state that you may float but it should not allow for them to switch the primary area that you SIGNED A CONTRACT for in the first place. But they will do it! Has this happened to anyone else? Don't agree to it, call your agency, and go back home.

      Definitely! I feel like I was hired into a float pool without ever agreeing to that. My current hospital has no respect for the concept of continuity of care. Constant midshift floating. So while in my interview I was told my unit was 3:1, on my second shift on my own I floated, had 3 admissions and ended up charting on 7 patients that night!! I almost cancelled the contract but it's very short so I'm just sticking it out.

But hearing how they be working the travel nurses makes me nervous. I don’t enjoy have ZERO me time. I’m thinking of doing labor and delivery nursing then I want to work as an NP eventually. Do you think there’s a market for traveling NPs?

    • @SincerelyShannonSubcribe
      @SincerelyShannonSubcribe  2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Not really. Travel nurses are making just as much money as NP’s if not more. I actually hear of NP’s going back the nurse route to get that money

    • @just_shaeee
      @just_shaeee 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, there’s a market, speaking as a psych NP. HOWEVER, with the COVID rate for RNs, the rates are around the same or more. Normal NP rates for psych are $70-110/hr. They are locum positions. Pros to traveling as a NP: You can work as a RN or NP traveling. You can do tele health part time from anywhere and still travel as a RN. You never have to worry about rates falling after COVID. Cons to being a NP, travel or local: You have more responsibility as a NP. The COVID pay could be significantly more as a RN (for now). You have more debt. There are less travel opportunities right now for NP but they are definitely out there, esp on the West & East Coast.

      No hospital has asked how big was the hospital you last worked at. Working at a trauma hospital seems to look good on resumes. But it’s really based on your skills. You can work at a huge hospital with lower acuity patients which limits your skill set. So I’d say work at a hospital that has higher acuity patients or at least a floor like step down or post surgical unit to gain more experience
