HUGE props for putting yourself out there and not just Learning Japanese, but learning it well enough that you can conduct a basic interview with these two greats in their home language. Language learning is tough, and Japanese is quite difficult.

I agree, I was impressed. It's super respectful too. If you're going to go to another country I feel like you should at least try to learn a little of the language. Jonny did a great job. I'm currently learning Japanese on my own and I really appreciated the hiragana subtitles when they were doing the interview.

Actually literally every other language besides English is pretty easy. The only thing I heard about Japanese is the writing system but then it becomes a cheat code because kanji are kind of like emoji, they carry meaning instead of pronunciation

Japan is absolutely a bucket list place to visit for me. And let me tell ya, it's _preeeeetty_ high up on that list! Everything from the people, food, cities, wildlife, and the way of life in general over there is so intriguing and downright serene.
I grew up as a city boy, but I think have this desire to be a mixture of the country & city mouse. There's advantages to enjoying the city lifestyle, but nothing will ever beat the magnificence of mother nature. Japan, like a handful of other countries in this world, does a spectacular job of maintaining a great balance between them both.

Go, it's incredibly accessible. Hotels and food at local spots is super affordable. Stay in Yokohama tho, way more affordable and chill than tokyo and like 15 to 20 minutes on the train to anywhere in Tokyo. Airfare is the worst part, but obsess about checking travel sites and you'll find a deal.

@@PoeticallyTwizted it's not an issue mostly. All signage and labels and ordering machines are in English or have English options.
Japanesepod101 has some good survival stuff, but really just on a vacation there all you'll need is sumimasen lol, over and over again sumimasen.
The best advice i can give anyone is to not over plan and not over think. Anywhere you stay is gonna be nice so pick a place in that 30 to 40 a night range. Any place you eat is going to be tasty, so don't worry about specific restaurants. Just search a food you wanna eat like ramen or gyudon and find one in your budget and go enjoy. Just don't stress about things

Ths is amzing. I have never seen one of your videos before and I hope whatever ailments you’re feeling keep getting much more healed! Cause you are lookin smooth as heck here.
But….of course you know I’m gonna say, these father and son are carving up the streets like a jackhammer team.
Amazing how inventive masahiro is and also tho he sneaks in a couple like straight up 80s Tony hawk spins and flat ground stuff …if you catch it!
This is just amazing! At least I can play music pretty well, which, gave me excuse to not skateboard as much because I either did both . . .and broke bones, then could do neither (really it was rollerblading doing a 540 off a plastic ramp and broke my elbow bad…😮) ! Or, play music professionally and let the naturals at skating do their thing and go cheer you all on. Not that drumming 6 hrs a day can’t give you carpal tunnel or arthritis if you don’t also do stretches , learn proper technique, and respect your body and your instrument…..
And your elders and mentors!!! 😁
Cheers from Philadelphia, USA! (Home of what used to be Love Park where that “L-O-V-E” statue you filmed is originally from and th park was in Tony hawk pro skater 2!!
I was 10 when I went to my first riot and protest and it was for them trying to demolish the park!…..they eventually did.
    Okay. History lesson, over.

Kicked out of the skate park for filming tricks. Well, that sounds so ironic. At least, insane footage you got there. Father and the son had really some magical skills.

Japan has a law regarding recording video of people in public where it's one thing to have the people in the shot that have agreed to it, but if you have others in it that you don't have permission from you can be fined for it if it shows their face in it. Since he's a foreigner, they just had him leave.

I love to see one of my fav freestyle skaters (and a big inspiration of mine) get a bit more mainstream recognition. Masahiro is a beast.

It took 40+ years for skateboarding to catch up to Rodney Mullen. He was doing these tricks in the 80's and 90's. He was crazy ahead of his time. Did he ever lose a freestyle comp?

He got 2nd place in one pro contest. I think Per Welinder got 1st in that one. We’re talking like 10 comps a year for 10 years! Crazy.

@@businesspartners619 Nah, in his autobiography he said after he lost he thought, “Are my parents going to think I’m a failure now?” “The sense of loss I felt was because I had failed to do what I set out to do” And “A few seconds after the results were announced, the thought of ending my career with failure sank in” That was supposed to be his second to last comp but then he started competing again after a break.

@@brandonmason388 thanks and very interesting, I could have sworn he said in an interview he meant to lose or something like that, I'm going to try to find it. But doing some research, he got 2nd place because he was sick so it might be that he shouldn't entered or expected not to be perfect. My memory is old so If you heard the interview, I definitely need to refresh my memory.

I've been skateboarding since 1986. Discovered few years later the one eighty to noseblunt to nollie on the quarter pipe and the impossible Rodney invented. I'm a multisporter, running a high amateur level. Skateboarding is absolutely my favorite cause it's so diverse and a lot of modern style has it roots in skateboarding. I truely believe Johny giger is popping it to a next level!

It is so interesting, they have such unique things in common, being talented at their age for skateboarding and for being a father and son who genuinely skate together.
This was a great video and I appreciate the effort that went into it. I hope you are ok Jonny. Look after yourself. ✌
