History was made in downtown Los Angeles on March 1, 2023, when 1,654 fans packed the historic Ace Theater for the larger-ever screening of the Oscar-Nominated film ‘RRR.’
With thousands of fans packed inside the historic 103 year old theater for a fan screening on the eve of Oscar voting, the only thing which could top that would be to have the director S.S. Rajamouli in the house… and he was there!
As well as the composer of the film and MM Keeravani, Ram Charan and Sentil Kumar.
The post-screening madness and Q&A starts at about 14 min in. Rajamouli is in at 15 min 10.

The audience was SO excited and not even 25% was Indian. It was a complete mash up of all people from all walks of life, all demographics, all ages, genders, races, colors, everyone was brought together by the power of cinema. In that theater we were all united by our love for what Rajamouli created. For one night we were all INDIA!

My thing is if it were a Hollywood crew they’d have chairs for them but they didn’t have any chairs for these maestros…
That was not because they didn't have them. Chairs were there, just not used. This was a choice made my the filmmakers and their team. This was FAR too active of a crowd and the speakers as well were far too engaged to sit down and chat. The theater has chairs available, of course! But also because of the safety for the participants, should anything have happened, they needed to be able to be agile and move quickly. And the chairs could have been used as a weapon. We went through metal detectors coming in. Which is VERY standard at ALL screenings in Hollywood these days, not just at the Ace Theater or for RRR. They had a big security detail on both sides of the stage. This was NOT because of any sign of disrespect. It was a choice to keep them UP and MOVING with the feeling of the crowd. The crowd was up too! :)

Dear friends....in this great ceremony of success of RRR to be nominated to OSCAR AWARDS, Jr. NTR and the Producer Sri Daanayya garu... are absent. And spoken very less about Jr. NTR by these invitees (may had forgotten in this over (excess) happiness, which led to the way of Proudness), particularly nothing about the Producer....The Great D,V.V. Danayya garu along with many Technicians worked...which might had not be a possible, this GREAT success....Its very SAD. These INVITEES openly expressed the psychology of INDIANS (forgetting the GRATITUDE usually happens in every individual). I am the fan of Sr. NTR and appreciate the successfulness of Mega Star Sri CHIRANJEEVI garu.....But these invitees had erased the humbleness who also supported for this SUCCESS.....THIS IS NOT FAIR...

Nope, it was released on high demand and natives started to appeal for re release after they watched the movie in Netflix.
This is all part of the FYC campaigns (For Your Consideration) ahead of Oscar voting. They have been screening the film all over Los Angeles for Academy Voters and the other guild to help build the momentum for votes. This is the way of the Academy campaigning. You have to be out there and SEEN in theaters. being on TV does not help to gain votes and to win you have to campaign and help earn word of mouth. Let's hope we have a BIG win on Oscar SUNDAY!!!
It was about 25 % Indian and the rest was everyone else!! There were Americans, Chinese, Japanese, Mexican, Columbian, French, German, Italian, Spanish, and everyone else you can imagine. It was total United Nations assemble of viewers of all ages, genders, colors, races and languages! All brought together by a love of cinema and the magic power of RRR and SS Rajamouli!

This was not a statement about the SCREEN size. It was the biggest SCREENING in terms of the size of the audience. 1,647 audience members seated in the theater. When it screened at the Chinese Theater a while back, it was the 6th largest screen size (IMAX) in the world, but the audience size was smaller. Hope this helps! Not trying to fool anyone, it's just terminology used. When an audience gathers for a movie that is called a "screening" of a movie. Sorry!
