What orientation were the actual light bulbs was the long skinny part with the lens vertical lens facing sides or horizontal with lens facing up and down in the housing ?

i read its not good to put a LED bulb on a reflective housing it scatters your light everywhere . you are suppose to have a projector housing for the led to work better.

Ideally yes. Unfortunately not an option here. LED is still going to be your best bet in this application.
