      I agree with you. The darker colors on the PlayStation 2 version does make the game a bit harder to see and play, especially with the smoke effect.

      @@alsat8931 if u mean the thing when you shoot, it makes sense since guncon 2 is not as advanced as what arcade had at the time. i think you can turn it off, but you it wont be as accurate. tbh it is kind of weird that they need to make it more sense by having it look more like a fog than simply overlay it with grey, but i digress, they made it that way not by a choice. you can see the earlier example of shooting continously with time crisis 3; i tbh can't see a damn thing with flashes lol but doable enough.. crisis zone made it better with not making it flash white, and with how that's the only weapon you are using, you definitely want that instead of what tc3 had.

    I noticed the arcade version has a more noticeable "ragdoll physics" applied when you shoot the enemy compared to the PS2 version which is more static. If you look closely at 4:04 in the arcade version, the enemy's leg drags along from the bullet spray, when at 04:11 in the PS2 version, the enemy simply flips over.

    I noticed that Derrick Lynch kept his voice, from the Arcade version, in the PS2 version. That is probably the only thing from the Arcade version that was kept for the PS2 version.

    Crisis Zone is the best arcade shooter I've ever played, imo.
    NOTHING will ever beat holding that plastic machine gun and feeling it rumble as I mowed down an entire army.
    And as arcades continue to die out, I will likely experience anything like it ever again.

    I think the arcade version has better animations. Back in the day, a lot of people knew this game for it's fluid enemy movement. It's of the things that made it feel so unique.
    You can tell that a lot of the motion capture was specifically tailored to certain rooms and set-pieces. Whereas the PS2 version uses generic mo-cap animations that are then blended together. It's why in the arcade version you can see enemies weave in and out of cover with momentum as they lean into their movement. In the PS2 version they seem to robotically switch between movements. If I have to guess why it was changed, it's because with the PS2 version there are more enemies and encounters, as well as an entirely new set of missions. So to accommodate for that they needed generic animations that could work anywhere.
    This is why I think that a lot of the enemies have slightly shifted positions since the arcade version, and move around cover differently.

    Finally a proper head to head comparison that's has video directly from the source and not from an external camera for this game.
    While there's no doubt that the PS2 version's graphics blows away the arcade, the audio is somewhat lacking for the PS2 version and you have weird white screen flashes on the PS2 (although this can be reduced in the settings).
    I know they tried to go for a gritty colour tone for the PS2 but I think the colour tone for the arcade was just as fine.

    • @FIGHTERSCHOICEArcade

      I really like the simplistic look of the arcade version. Very nice and vibrant colors. Also, since the arcade version doesn’t technically use “light gun”, I can play this game on any display. I use a led monitor to play with the ossc. I have to use a crt tv to play the PlayStation 2 version and it can get pretty annoying.

    • @kvin9210
      @kvin9210 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@FIGHTERSCHOICEArcade yes. The PS2 version is so visually different that I feel it's a different looking game. Atleast in the PS2 port of time crisis 2; while the colors and graphics are different to the arcade, it is still somewhat colourful and retains the look and feel of the arcade without it being visually jarring or too distant from the arcade version.
      Namco's decision to make the PS2 version of crisis zone with a realistic and gritty colour tones of brown, green and grey feel so off. I did quite like the arcade version where you felt like a special task force agent rather than a military soldier in the PS2 version.

    I must say I like em both, the original looks a bit Dreamcast-ish, kinda reminding me of Confidential Mission, colorwise and for the overall lower polys count.

    The energy and fluidity of the arcade feels better. I love that the machine gun shots are actually red hot bullet holes, compared to the PS2. The arcade feels alive with soul, and the PS2 just has better graphics at best.
    If you've had a chance to play the arcade version in person, you know the feeling of the bass and the rumbling of the gun made it amazing.

  • @ReapingRose115
    @ReapingRose115 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The PS2 version certainly does fit the 6th Generation era of graphics while the arcade version feels very much of its era in terms of looks, a strange in between of the 5th and 6th. But the vibrant colours and visual presentation would make it distinctive in an arcade, whilst the PS2's use of dull greys dampens its visual flare. You have to still appreciate what Namco were able to even do with the original arcade hardware and its limitations, still delivering a lightgun game of pure carnage, and thankfully that's not gone from the PS2 version. Still, the smoke screen effect when shooting on PS2 is OBNOXIOUS, would've preferred constant flashing. I understand the why but doesn't make me hate it any less.
    There are some nuances in terms of animation that kind of trade blows between both versions. The way enemies react to gunfire feels far more visceral as they stumble in response to a volley of lead compared to what appears to be taking a punch but shrugging it off on the PS2, but certain other elements such as how some bosses and enemies movement feel more fluid and realistic in on PS2 whilst the Arcade version, still well done, it does feel more hand crafted.
    But certainly the sound design for the arcade version feels punchy, the PS2 version less so, but makes up for it with some remixed tracks that live in my head rent free. Just wished that since the game is set in London, that the voice acting would've been... British. Oh well.
    Thanks for an awesome side by side!

      The thing is, it's believable they were able to do this. The great thing about these arcade machines back then was the proprietary hardware was pushed and optimized. Time Crisis, Time Crisis 2, and Crisis Zone were made with the same hardware if I remember correctly. But the sound was amazing, I agree and the bass was top notch. These old arcade games just knew how to push with optimization foreals.

    The motif why PS2 version of TC:CS fixed many things who becamed strange on original Arcade version, such as character apparances, the voices and psychical detection of shots.
    I'm remember the day when I got a copy of Crisis Zone to my PS2 and spent hours to unlock all the console version addictions, such as the secondary Story Mode with original stages and weapon changing.
    For the 5 Light Gun Namco's games ported for PS2, Crisis Zone have the best conversion.

    If we're never going to get the arcade version of Crisis Zone to work on MAME, can we at least get someone to mod the original music and voice acting into the PS2 version?
    I grew up playing the arcade version in the pizza restaurant my aunt worked at, and I just can't accept the music remix and new voice acting. The PS2 version just isn't close enough to what I played in the arcade, and just doesn't feel right. They didn't have to remix the music and replace the original voice actors, they didn't need to replace the original character animations or apply a "gritty" "realistic" filter to the upgraded graphics, and Namco's attempt at doing so "improved" the game into a failure. The extra scenario is literally the only good thing about the PS2 version.
    I wanted a port, but what was released was pretty much a remake, which isn't a good thing if the original version of the game is out of print and the remake doesn't give you the option of playing the original out of print game.

    • @FIGHTERSCHOICEArcade
      @FIGHTERSCHOICEArcade  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It might be possible but I may know the reason why Namco may have chosen to redo some voices and music. The game was already old and the music and sounds did sound a bit out-dated and midi like and Namco probably wanted to get the best out of the PlayStation 2s sound and graphics capabilities. The only voice that seemed to stay the same was Derrick Lynch, and his voice did seem a bit out of place compared to the other newer voice acting. Time Crisis 2 also did the same thing with re- doing the music and/ or redoing some voice acting. Kim Sama did mention that some of the voices in TCII had been changed in pitch and they were correct.

    • @colterknebel
      @colterknebel 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@FIGHTERSCHOICEArcade If that's the case, I can sort of understand where Namco is coming from. But regardless of whether the music or the voices were "outdated" or midi-like, the original samples were better than the remixed music and the new voice actors. The new music is too sped-up and has too much electronic enhancement. The original music was paced well, and sounded as close to orchestrated (and epic) as the Gasshin Sound System would allow. The original voice acting, though cheesy, was very clean, and the talent actually sounded like they were trying. The new voice actors are just there to collect a paycheck.
      There should have been a way to either put the original version of the game into the "remake," or allow options to turn on the original music, voice acting, character animations, and pathways, so that the "port" doesn't come off as a "remake."

    • @FIGHTERSCHOICEArcade
      @FIGHTERSCHOICEArcade  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@colterknebel like I said, it should be possible to add music from the arcade to the PlayStation 2 version. I probably might investigate myself. As for the PlayStation 2 version of TC2, which is technically a “remake”, I think Namco did an excellent job. If memory serves me well, Namco of Japan did the port for Time Crisis 2. Namco Europe did the port for Time Crisis:Crisis Zone while Japan did the original arcade version on the Namco System Super 23. I think that out of all the light gun games Namco did on the PlayStation 2, Crisis Zone is probably the weakest one on the PlayStation 2.

      @@FIGHTERSCHOICEArcade I've only played the arcade version of TC2 once, and barely remember any specifics, so maybe I could be more accepting of it's PS2 version. At least I don't have a big attachment to it like I do with the arcade version of Crisis Zone.
