  • Real arcade hardware recorded using the Elgato Camlink 4K and the OSSC for best video capture (1080p60 FPS).
    **as of July 2021, this game, as well as other Namco System 23 games CANNOT be emulated**
    Had lots of fun trying to play this game. I am using my custom IR gun to play this game. I don’t have the original Namco arcade machine gun yet and this custom gun works remarkably well. I might start a small batch of reproduction guns or kits for anyone who is interested in a home setup or to replace failed arcade guns on original dedicated cabinets.
    This game was released in two cabinet versions: The Deluxe cabinet(which uses a big projection tv with a RGB to NTSC S-Video converter and uses the Namco Rays JVS PCB) and the Standard cabinet ( which uses a regular CRT RGB monitor and uses the Namco JVS V221 MIU pcb - I’m using this set up).
    Both cabinets use the same IR led in gun and CCD camera setups and since this game ISN’T A TRADITIONAL OPTICAL LIGHT GUN GAME, This game is playable on any modern flatscreen LCD or LED tv/ monitor.
    Arcade system: Namco System Super 23 Evolution 2
    Game: CRISIS ZONE (1999) (CSZO3 Ver.B) USA VERSION/Release
    I hope you enjoy and please like, share and subscribe! I really encourage you to share this or any other of my videos to make this channel grow!
    NOTE: This gameplay is intended as entertainment, not meant for skill.**

    Great video capture of this epic game. Yeah luckily with the way this game detects the gun all you need is something which projects an IR beam onto the screen. I also have this running on at home on a projector via a custom pedestal I created using the original hardware.

      @FIGHTERSCHOICEArcade  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks! I have seen your videos before and have always been amazed by your pedestal build. Your videos as well as Naoki’s Retro Corner’s videos have inspired me to at least get one of these pcbs. I was able to pick up a full set with most of the wiring and power supplies for insanely cheap ( no gun or camera). I’m using the V221 MIU I/O board that is normally found in the standard version of the game. I do have 2 rays pcbs that partially work and have tested the game with success. As for the gun, I don’t have the machine gun in my collection yet but I used a clone Namco arcade hand gun and put a IR transmitter inside. Lots of trail and errors but I did get it to work in the end. I do plan on making replacement IR pcbs and guns soon.

      @@FIGHTERSCHOICEArcade Haha small world as it was Naoki who I bought my Crisis Zone hardware from. Nice to hear you got it working using the standard I/O board as there are a lot more of those available. The user manuals seem to suggest that the guns are not interchangeable between the standard and deluxe cabinet - no idea why unless the lens for the IR beam is different because of the distance from the screen.
      Certainly be interested in seeing more videos of your setup and how you make your custom guns. I managed to upgrade the shell of my gun to a NOS black shell which I was amazed to find in Australia.

      @@chrisnightingale5529 I will make a video explaining how I was able to play this game without the real arcade gun. I did receive my Crisis Zone arcade gun and I found out something interesting: my custom gun is more accurate than the stock gun lol! I will also make a separate video showing how to build a custom gun with any gun shell. I want to be able to put the innards of my custom IR led sensor inside a child’s toy sub machine gun, it should be fun! Keep an eye out for those two video! :)

      @@FIGHTERSCHOICEArcade Look forward to it. As for a custom gun you could always considering using like an AEG Airsoft Gun as it would look realistic and might be able to mod it to simulate the recoil. Although I did also go down the toy route and made a light gun for playing the PS2 version (before I got the arcade hardware) using AimTrak innards and a toy MP5K which even had little vibration motors to simulate recoil - kinda worked ok although the AimTrak is a bit hit and miss I find.

    What made this game fun is how every object reacts when you shoot it. Like bottles and papers flying around, cement falling from pillars. It felt real. Plus I remember the gun controller in arcades have vibrates making it more realistic when shooting.

    God damn, dude... looking at footage of the original arcade version from 1999, it's crazy how good the environmental destruction and physics looked even way back then, as well as the details like the enemies recoiling and sometimes clutching their gut after being hit, the way their shields deform from your bullets hitting them, and the smoke trails coming out of enemy helicopters when they're low on health.
    I remember seeing and playing the cabinet of this game at the arcade of my local AMC Theaters back in the day along with the now-defunct Aladdin's Castle in Torrance, CA. Even though I played it a good amount of times as a kid, I usually passed it up for The House of the Dead, which was in both the aforementioned arcades. Then once those cabinets disappeared I ended up getting the 2004 PS2 remake of this game and I played that version so many times that it was my go-to for playing this game. Stumbling upon this footage made me realize just how good it looked for the time and how much work they put into it- something which I never paid any mind to or truly appreciated as a kid... then again I also sucked at the game and we didn't have infinite quarters. XD

    아케이드 판 과 플스 2판의 차이점은 그래픽 과 추가 시나리오인데 아케이드 판에서는 방독면 과 베레모를 쓰고 나오는데 빨간색 병사는 당연히 빨간색 전투복을 착용하며 중장갑 보병은 흰색 전투복을 착용하지만...플스 2판에서는 완전히 바뀌었는데 발라클라바 에 고글과 마스크를 착용하고 하늘색 병사는 그냥 방탄복만 입는데 비해 청색 병사는 어깨 보호대를 착용하였고 중장갑 보병은 헬멧을 쓰고 나오는데 무슨 스타워즈의 스톰 트루퍼를 연상캐한다.보스들 역시 바뀐게 있는데 특히 최종 보스만 흑인으로 변경이 된것..주인공 일행은 아무래도 병사들과 너무 닮아서 주인공만 다르게 모델링 되었다고.. 아케이드판은 가렌드 스퀘어 주변 배경을 다루고 있으며 이는 플스2 판도 유사하며 플스 2판에서는 본편을 클리어 하면 추가로 나오는 아케이드판에도 없는 오리지널 스토리 그라스마켓 길거리 스테이지를 플레이가 가능합니다.

      Yep, the PlayStation 2 version is a total remake as a bunch of stuff was redone (especially the graphics). Interestingly enough, I never saw any light gun games for sale when I was younger. I have also never been to an actual arcade. The only arcade machine I have ever seen in person was in a pizza place and they had Area 51 site 4. Looks and played amazing! That game is also not emulated properly and I do happen to have a dead board. Hopefully I can fix it and show it in 4K :)

    Can someone explain **as of July 2021, this game, as well as other Namco System 23 games CANNOT be emulated** in layman's terms? I understand that NS23 systems gave emulators difficulty in the past, but why specifically July 2021 that it was determined these games cannot be emulated?

    • @FIGHTERSCHOICEArcade
      @FIGHTERSCHOICEArcade  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I tried to specify that even in 2021, Namco System 23 games still aren’t emulated. I recorded this gameplay in June 2021 but kept updating the description in July, hence, why I put July 2021. Once emulation is possible and the games are playable, I’ll update the description once more. Hope this explanation helps clarify any confusion :)

    • @eddiejay9407
      @eddiejay9407 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I see now! Researching these old games is very heartbreaking, especially when you realize that just getting any of these games in a playable state is very difficult. That's not even to mention how it would be pretty much impossible to "emulate" the experience of the original cabinets of these games (eg. the feedback from the Crisis Zone gun). Thanks for the response! Crossing my fingers for the preservation of these classics in the future.

    • @FIGHTERSCHOICEArcade
      @FIGHTERSCHOICEArcade  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Surprisingly, the Force Feedback can be achieved as I’ve seen it be done with the ps2 port (real hardware or PS2 emu) using custom guns and hardware, but that being said, that would still be a DIY approach, not a mass production one, some electronics skill and knowledge would be required as well. But you’re still partially correct, while the force feedback can be done, it won’t be 100 percent accurate like the real hardware. Heck, even finding the original parts was a hassle lol! Before I actually found an original sub machine gun for the game, I actually had to reverse engineer and make a custom gun myself. :)

    There's gotta' be a way that the original arcade version can be emulated. There just HAS to be. I can't stand the PS2 version. They replaced the charmingly cheesy voice acting with phoned in performances, sped up and distorted the original music to where it sounds godawful, barely followed the original routes, and changed up the enemies movements so that we barely see any of their cool tactics and reactions to getting hit. The only good thing about the PS2 "port" was the extra scenario.

    • @FIGHTERSCHOICEArcade
      @FIGHTERSCHOICEArcade  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The Namco custom chips and the way they operate on each board is the issue on why emulation isn’t possible for these systems yet.

      Yeah, the only way to play the game (on real hardware) without the white smoke effect is to play using the controller. @@FIGHTERSCHOICEArcade Update, I saw on one of your videos that the PS2 version of crisis zone has a setting that can reduce this.
