The Fender Telecaster was (kind of) the first solid body electric guitar to make it onto the market, and when it did, it changed everything. Let's find out how.

Strats, telecasters, and Les Pauls are all important! As a long time guitariat I can speak from experience.. they all have their place in modern music.
Totally!
If this was the history we’d been taught in school, I wouldn’t have dropped out. Banger video as always 🤝
lolllll amazing
11:43 To be fair, the poly finish didn't come along until much later after the CBS acquisition. It wasn't immediate. And the drop in quality was gradual. Quick but gradual.
However, you are definitely on point with the assertion that Fender is still killing it. Even Squiers can kill it. My Tele is a pine-body Classic Vibe black guard and it is way better than any $400 guitar has any right to be. And now that they've cleared up some QC issues, the AVII series is absolutely killing it.
Squier really does not deserve the derisive treatment it’s gotten over the years.
I have many guitars, and my absolute favorite that I’ve ever owned is a Squier classic vibe 70’s telecaster deluxe. It is so versatile, and like you said has no business being that good for ~$400.
My main bass when I was touring was a Taiwanese P-bass with ungraded electronics. The feel of that bass is just *chefs kiss* and I’ve had multiple other bassists who love their USA Fenders play it, and not want to put it down.
Seeing Merle Haggard and Tiny Moving Parts less than a second away from eachother tells you how versatile this instrument is alone.
Such a great design that many companies make their own versions with their own pros and cons. I got a blue Harley Benton TE-20 not only because it was cheap, it also has a 12" radius neck, a great neck size for beginner guitarists who are put off with chunky necks. Love this thing
Harley Bentons are the bees knees! Greater starter brand
That radius is in mm cause its an import. But its even flatter. I think 14 inches. Feels like theres no curve at all
@@Ottophil My bad I screwed up somewhere. But yeah it is like very flat, next guitar I might go with a chunkier neck just for some variety but again love this guitar.
So happy to see some footage of TOE ( 13:02 ) on your channel. Great stuff :)
Great mini-doc! Concise, informative, and with humor. You really have a talent for these videos. Keep up the great work!
I don't get here that often now, but you've really matured into thiis. I can easily see you doing long-form documentaries. You've got a lot of Rick Beato''s vibe. Different, but also truly passionate, sincere, well informed, and a top notch easy to listen to communicator (with stellar production) you'd like to hang with. Enjoy where it leads you, you"re obviously on the right path.👍
The Tele is up there with the Precision Bass in importance for sure B)
Hell yeah! I need to look more into the history of the P bass
One of the best looking guitars in my opinion 🎶
Totally!
I had my telecaster I bought on layaway at the local sam ash for 15 years. After a few mods, I found my tone and i never left it ever since.
I did the sammeeeee thing with my black strat haha, put it on layaway and sold almost all the rest of the gear I own to pay it over the course of a couple months lol
This is such a great video. Would love to see a follow up where you take the output of the exercises from this video and turn them into a song. Basically, where do you go from here, if you want to use this stuff as more than just exercises in a vacuum
This video rules! Great work as always
My “Jonny greenwood” tele is my favorite next to my Yamaha Pacifica 611
Ugh I'm jealous of that Greenwood Tele for sure
Very informative! The more ya know... the more ya know! I'd be curious on your breakdown of Trey Anistasio's playing. I swear his electric guitar is alive!:)
These history videos are phenomenal Ricky!! Keep em coming!
Thank you so much! In my head you're Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin and I'm just going to choose to believe that lol
@@AudioHaze We're both wishing that was true!
I love the telecaster, only downside I think is that it feels a bit uncomfortable when playing live and that happens pretty quickly, at least for me. Great f-ing video as always!
Brilliant video, would love to see more of these in the future!
Unrelated: Would also love to see a video regarding acoustic treatment for home studios - didn't notice any acoustic treatment in your room, yet your sound seems not to suffer, how come?
Cheers!
I actually have a video about working in unideal spaces if you want to check it out! I don't use a lot of acoustic treatment but with the way my room rounds I don't think its super necessary, look up "A complete guide to room acoustics" on the channel, old video but a good one
@@AudioHaze great, will do, thanks!
Great vídeo as always!
Thanks man!
Great content, as always!
Thanks man!
i have two guitars a bass line squire strat that i haven’t played in forever and a JV tele. i don’t like country or metal prog polyphia stuff but it is such a versatile guitar. i can get tones from u2 to zeppelin and it will sound pretty dang accurate
can't wait for this to blow up, production quality is nuts
Thanks dude!! We try our best for sure
Idk why this vid didn't go viral. You deserve it lol
Thank you!
I love my 52 reissue Tele❤
Same basic recipe, plus enough minor tweaks to keep it relevant. My 2012 American Standard Tele has a 9.5" radius fretboard instead of the 7.5" baseball bat, but it's still chunky and still makes you work. My Player Plus Strat is a fast 12", but that's another story.
Love my tele. First guitar I bought myself.
I'd vote for the Telecaster and Les Paul as the most important guitars (the LP for hard rock/metal) the humbuckers were a big deal. The Stratocaster takes 3rd place as far as I'm concerned. You can't really go wrong with all 3, but especially the Telecaster and Les Paul covering so much ground.
Great video. Took me 25 years to get a Tele. Now I don't know how to live without one.
I need to buy one again! I've only ever owned one but it left a big impact on me, definitely regret selling it
😂 13:00 Lol I could tell he was playing math rock just by his wiggles and how high he wears his telecaster.
I love my tele :) a strat just never felt right in my hands
I love both! If I had to pick I'd go strat, but I desperately need to get my hands on a Tele again one of these days
@@AudioHaze to each their own!
I keep a handful of Telecasters in my studio arsenal that are all setup with different tunings, string gauges, and a high-strung. It's probably my least favorite solid-body guitar to play, but they're extremely stable and tonally they fit everywhere within music.
Edit: Beauchamp is pronounced Bo-camp. I've known some families pronounce their name as B-you-camp. Byoucamp. Beauchamp.
Aw really, least favorite?? I always find Tele's and Strats to be my comfort zones, even if they're a little basic
@@AudioHaze I've always disliked the extremely rounded fretboard radius of the traditional tele and strat, and I very much hate their old school fret wire. When Fender released the Ultra series I jumped onboard fast. The American Ultra Stratocasters are my absolute go-to guitars right now beating out my previous favorites I'd spent my entire touring and recording life on.
LETS GOOO wohoooo..... ok I'm actually starting the video now, but thanks in advance!
Thanks for checking it out man!
" Hell yeah BROTHER"
Damn you. I've been trying to convince myself I don't need a tele!
Thanks!
Wow thank you SO much Colin!!
Glad i have my squier tele. At my basic rhythm playing level it'd be foolish for me to buy anything more expensive.
OK YOU DID GO DEEP MY BAD AWESOKE😢
you’re so intelligent and talented
Listening to this on my Status Between Pro 3ANCs is weird to me.
Love the video, but chill with the old color filter. Its to saturated :)
lol been getting some comments like this lately 😂 I will indeed chill
❤
Great video, watching while holding my flame veneer tele... :(
😭😭 it’s okay we can spray paint it lol (jk you ROCK that axe)
Telecasters are the best! Even the cheap Squier ones.
Now do the Les Paul👀
Teles rule. Jimi Page knows it, so does everyone who has ever gigged.
Jordan always win
I'll just take your word for it lol
Worst guitar Ive ever played was a michael kelly
whoever thought to put jazzmaster pickups on a tele should be fired
HAHA here we go AGAINNN
First
welcome :)
@@AudioHaze love the vid btw
First time I’ve ever been first ever 🥹
Nice dude!! Although I think there's another guy claiming first and idk who did it ACTUALLY first lol
