No point no end goal just ever lasting WAR. a villain that doesn't sugar coat his intentions but lays them out honestly and wholeheartedly for all to agree or disagree with.
Can I just mention how this speech is actually kind of structured like an Adolph Hitler speech? For those of you who don't know, Hitler's speeches would start out kind of quiet, like he was just barely speaking into the microphone, but also had this "rising action" where he would steadily get louder and LOUDER until he was practically YELLING into the microphone like a madman, and also the loudspeakers the propaganda teams would use made it kind of a little TOO loud for the crowd, to the point of hurting their ears a bit, but by then the "rising action" had gotten the crowd so excited that they were going NUTS with excitement and didn't even notice how loud things were? I'm mostly referring to that line where he goes: "A war whose fury is built with lightning und fire? DO YOU ASK FOR WAR TO SWEEP IN LIKE A TEMPEST, *LEAVING NOT EVEN RAVENS TO SCAVENGE FROM ZIS EARTH??!!"* Everything about that moment is just so unbelievably reminiscent of Hitler, it's chilling. Clearly whoever made this scene either did a lot of research, or just had a REALLY good feel for what Nazi speeches were like. Intentional or otherwise... wow. Just wow.
"i love to be squashed under the heel of the british or american war machine" when you're such a sadomasochistic pervert you accidentally make the most honest depiction of fascism out there
This scene alone pretty much confirms my theory that the Major likes war. It's subtly hinted at throughout the other 10 episodes, but this scene alone confirms my suspicion.
When he talks about his battalion being ravaged by Russian troops, he was speaking from his experience during Millenniums last stand, when he refused vampirism and first became a cyborg.
The Major is honestly the perfect villain for Hellsing. But the terrifying thing is that he is correct. While vampires are compelled by their need to feed on blood, his will is entirely his own. He may be mostly machine, but his will is still that of a human, unaffected by the thirst for blood or countless souls trapped within him as Alucard is. He proudly wears the uniform of one of the most evil organizations in human history and yet chooses on his own to be even worse. He proves that one doesn't need to be a literal monster in order to be a figurative one. He needs no tragic backstory, no supernatural hunger, no ideology or cause, and no divine or demonic artifacts or powers. He is human, and that alone is all he needs to be as evil as he wants to be.
This makes him a fitting villain for hellsing as he’s a perfect example of the shows message, how the line between monster and man isn’t as clear as it may seem, Alucard hates what he has become, while the major wants to bring the entire world into an endless state of war for his own amusement and effectively gave up his humanity as a result
If I had to describe why the major is one of my favorite villains in any anime, I would sum my reason like this: imagine that we equate fighting a war to flipping a quarter, and yes I get wars are more complicated than just the fifty/fifty chances of a coin toss, but what it comes down to is that there are two outcomes: victory or defeat. The Major doesn’t care which side the coin falls on, only that the coin has been flipped.
I love how viciously sinister his speech is. He loves war of all kinds, it doesn’t matter if his side is winning or losing, if his forces are slaughtering or being slaughtered. All he wants in this world is complete and utter carnage, slaughter, destruction, blood. Especially since it’s all an elaborate plan to bait alucard into drinking the blood of millions so he inadvertently drinks the blood of a being that exists everywhere and nowhere, thus his own existence becomes equally paradoxical and therefore he fades out of existence and wow the major was playing 5d chess huh
The scary part is that The Major takes pleasure in defeat as much as victory, he doesn't care if he loses even against an enemy that would utterly outclass him. He only wants the thrill of the fight even if it means that he dies in the most horrible way possible. To him, suffering the most agonizing death in battle against a worthy opponent would be his perfect blaze of glory.

He wasn't just a simple warmongering megalomaniac. He wasn't just boasting endlessly. He knew exactly what he was, what his limitations were, and acknowledged things going south too. And yet he still loved every bit of it, both sides of the coin if you will.
He may not have the raw strength of Frieza so his potential for chaos isn't as high, but his passion about war is what gives him my vote for most evil anime character
I wouldn't call him the most evil, as there are villains with far worse motivations out there. The Major was just very passionate about finding a worthy foe.
That’s why I love him, he’s not an all powerful, nigh unkillable Demi god, that could wipe out regiments in minutes, he’s a man, powered only by his will and his determination.
@@-Offstar it makes me think, do cyborgs like these ever have to remove their skin and flesh temporarily to oil their mechanisms? Personally, I think the Major makes an exception for mechanical replacements because they were made by a humans hand and a human’s will to make it.
Something you have to admire about the Major: he was loyal to his comvictions to the very end. A lot of villains speak of grand ideals and sacrifice but, the moment things go wrong for them and they face defeat, they become cowards and retreat. The Major however, did not, he embraced war in all of its facets, including defeat and the suffering of his own men and was pretty upfront about it in this speech. He understood that those who live by the sword must die by the sword and he embraced the sword regardless. Like Ernst Jünger, he found transcendence and joy in war and delighted in it to the bitter end, dying with a smile on his face like the vampires of the SS Letzte Battalion. He was admirable, in his own way.
@@jakepatrick1629 To be frank, I wouldn't even call him evil. He's just an adversary who exploited the inherent [week'hness] of British society to exact revenge for the war they chose to wage against his Homeland and to indulge in the ultimate game: war. Regardless, he went out like a boss and owned his shortcomings. I just feel bad for the human Wehrmacht personnel who operated the zeppelins and provided logistical support thinking their lives would be valued and that, when the operation soured, they'd return to home base to lick their wounds. They had no idea how committed to total war and an all-out decisive battle of annihilation the Major was. They were the sons, possibly grandsons, of the German militarists who fled with the NSDAP personnel of Millennium and for them, it was a war of reprisal that necessitated eventual withdrawal so they could savor their victory and pursue further warfare in the future. I guess, if he led them on to believe they'd live through it, that'd be an evil act on his part given the dishonor of rallying men under false pretense but, that's probably it.
@ZacheryEstrada-yv1nv Alright, let's explore that. _HOW_ is he evil? I'm not trolling you, I just see an intellectual thread that can lead to a mutually beneficial conversation delving into how we come to believe what we believe, like an adventure into truth and how we got our evidently opposing perspectives. So, let's begin: _HOW_ is he evil?
I love how, despite being a Nazi, the Major doesn't actually hold any fascist beliefs. He's just a guy who wants to watch the world burn and to see everyone die in his glorious war, not even caring if he himself has to die for that to happen. He's not racist, he just wants EVERYONE to suffer. It's all just a fun game to him.
And he is also exploiting the prejudices of his followers for his own benefit. Bonus points for the fact that the Major considers everybody as his inferiors.
In a way, he's more representative of an older form of German ideals: Prussian militarism. War was, after all, prior to the world wars, seen as a perfectly normal and natural thing and even a good way for boys to go on an adventure and become men. Of course, the Major, unlike the rest of Europe and Germany, continued to love war even though it changed into something else entirely.
@@ThePppp89 Turns out that normies and TH-cam advertisers don't like a Nazi cyborg giving his Nazi vampire army an empassioned speech about how much he loves every single aspect of war, no matter how horrible, complete with a swastika and Nazi salutes. Who'da thunk?
What I like about the Major was the fact that he rejected the opportunity to become a natural vampire. It is an acknowledgement that he doesn't need to become a bigger monster, because as a human, he already a good enough monster.
Griffith isn't a villain in my eyes, he is just a manipulative narcissist, Johan however, by god is he a good villain. He is written so good, and he is so manipulative that it's close to barbarism how we all compare to him, he is the epitome of high society, we are but a maggot in a dog turd. That's how evil Johan is. But I must say I much much more enjoy Moi, as a villain than Johan, because I might not be better written, but the ease which people can understand my villainy, and my intentions, in some chaotic dance borderlining sanity and insanity, is easy to grasp. Meanwhile, we have Johan, the best written villain of all time, the sole being that you'd never want as your enemy, you know that whatever you do it is all hopeless, he knows every step you make against him, he has already planned ahead for it all, he knows you better than you, and he makes sure you know it, grinding that despair and hopelessness further and further into your mind, until you are but a husk of the man you were before.
If i had a penny for every time an anime featured a charismatic german trying to defeat super natural vampiric enemies i would have two pennies but it's weird that it happened twice.
if I had a penny for every time a priest named Maxwell interacted with a b*itish vampire i would have two pennies but it's weird that it happened twice.
This is probably the 2nd best war speech in anime. And while I love the abridged version, the sub and official dub are just a massive notch higher as the major just goes on and on about he love seeing enemies and allies alike die in various brutal ways in war. He's not someone who can be reasoned or relatable to, but a straight up psychopathic monster that wants nothing but death and destruction by his hands and by his cause. Plus the b horror and action movie cheese feeling it gives off just completes it like a cherry on top of a Sunday
@@flyingfish64 The only thing that puts it above The Major's speech is that I can take Gihren's speech much more seriously, and it feels much more like a realistic and grounded nationalistic speech to rally Zeon against the EFF

Feel like the Major would look down on Sundowner, look at the scale of their wars. He would look past Sundowner and applaud Armstrong pushing him farther, lending his forces to create a war that would make Sundowner revel in joy as they were set loose a wild force with a mighty machine of death and destruction where bodies fall in destroyed heaps as the worshippers of war charge in ready for vallhalla in a display that would break the minds of all who saw, and the wills of the few who survive. A battle that I would want to play in a game as I hear the taunts of major, in a battle that is for nothing more than to see who will be standing at the end.
In some ways, he is and so was Anderson in the end. Alucard was a monster of the infernal and eldritch. Anderson rejected the very thought of the demonic, instead choosing to become a monster of the holy and God with the Nail. The Major when offered the very blood of his own troops rejected it, instead choosing to become a monster of man and science. Through the Doctor, the Major became a man-made horror beyond comprehension as an automaton.
My friends, it has often been said that I like war. My friends, I like war. No, friends, I LOVE WAR! I love Holocausts. I love Blitzkriegs. I love defensive lines. I love sieges. Charges. I love mop-up operations and retreats. Wars across prairies, in streets, in trenches, in grasslands, in frozen tundras, through deserts, on the sea, in the air. I love every act of war that can occur upon this earth! I love blasting the enemy to smithereens with artillery salvos that thunder across the lines of battle. My heart leaps with joy whenever a soldier is tossed high into the air and cut to pieces by well placed sniper rounds! And there is nothing like a tank operator using a Tiger Acht-Acht to destroy enemy tanks. And the feeling that comes when a soldier runs screaming from his blazing tank only to be mowed down by heavy machine gun fire is such an exquisite feeling. Like when ranks of infantry brandish their bayonets rushing into the enemy line. It moves me deep within my heart to watch a fresh recruit stabbing over and over into the bloated chest of a long-dead enemy. The sight of deserters being strung up from a street lamp is an irresistible pleasure. Und there is nothing more arousing than the sounds made by prisoners of war dropping like flies, screaming in agony as they're mowed down by ear piercing Schmeissers! When a band of pitiful resistance fighters makes their final stand with nothing but small arms, only to have their city smashed to atoms block by block by 4.8 ton bombshells, I'm in ecstasy. I love it when my forces are ravaged by a Russian armored division. It's so sad to see towns and villages that were supposed to be defended at all costs, being laid to waste, their women and children being raped and killed. I love to be squashed under the heel of the British and American war machines. The humiliation as my men crawl around like vermin, ducking the JAG bombers flying overhead.
It's funny to think that because of his war, the Major could have tried the same crazy vampire siege plan no matter the era. He could have dropped his army in New York during the war on terror, or in Hanoi in 70s Vietnam, or infiltrated with vampires in the 1980s Soviet Union to turn the cold war into a hot one.

Honestly you're not wrong sure he was a legitimately evil person but his dedication deserve some respect
@@jakepatrick1629
To be frank, I wouldn't even call him evil.
@ZacheryEstrada-yv1nv
Alright, let's explore that.

"I'm not racist because I hate everyone equally!" -The Major, probably

One of the best antagonists in animanga easily. Almost no antagonist has matched this level of evil besides Johan and Griffith

Major is a very interesting character. He could have been another Alucard. But he straight up rejected that
In some ways, he is and so was Anderson in the end.

It moves me deep within my heart to see a fresh recruit stabbing over and over and over again into the bloated chest of a long dead enemy
