STEVE ALBINI PRODUCER of 90's Music dead at 61
Steve Albini, a rock musician and revered audio engineer who played a singular role in the development of the sound of alternative rock music in the 1980s, the ’90s and beyond - recording acclaimed albums by Nirvana, PJ Harvey, Pixies and hundreds of others - while becoming an outspoken critic of the music industry, died on Tuesday at his home in Chicago. He was 61.
Steve Albini, the noise rock pioneer with Big Black and Shellac who also helped engineer some of the greatest alternative rock albums of all time - Nirvana’s In Utero and Pixies’ Surfer Rosa among them - has died at the age of 61.
Staff at Albini’s Electrical Audio Recording confirmed that Albini died Tuesday night, with the New York Times adding that the cause of death was a heart attack. Albini’s death comes just a week after his acclaimed noise rock project Shellac was set to release To All Trains, their first new album in over a decade.

Wow, that’s to bad! And way way to young! The producer Butch Vig grew up in the same area I did in Wisconsin and then started his studio in Madison. He produced the Nevermind album. And a couple of Smashing Pumpkins albums. I would image he’s gotta be around the same age as Steve?

Atomizer - one of the best records ever made. Big Black, Shellac, Rapeman - all great bands. All the records he recorded. His article on major label record companies. A true punk rocker to the end.
