That white smoke is normal. I have a 75 and I rode it to high school everyday for 3 years and she always smoked on startup but cleared up a few minutes down the road. I to am going to start to restore my 75 here soon. Great project your paint looks spectacular
The red outline on this thumbnail is next level . My junky beat-up Frankenstein bike would fit perfectly in that frame. I also like how "bacwards" is misspelled. Again... just like my junky bike =) Love your junk GG.
Ever get your hands on a YZ 490 and you decide to put on a timing plate from. A IT 490 timing plate on it has the lighting coils on yz don't. It will run backwards there no adjusting without modifying it making the slots longer. Does it have oil injection. Pre mix. If pre mix. Run Maxima 927 the sweet smell of synthetic Castor beans. Golden spetrco the old. School stuff that people put in that case back in the day.
two stroke 70s and 80s street/dirt bikes are the best. this video made me miss my '81 TS125 so much. I had to sell it off during covid, but at least it went to a transport museum here in iceland. enjoy your bike a bunch this summer :)

I would say the reason it was smoking so much is the have it premixed and with oil injection which is a good idea for a couple rides to make sure the oil pump is actually pumping and you idled it so much it was just loaded up on oil, it tends to happen with all gas 2 stroke that have to run oil or premix so dont be to scared plus its a old 2 stroke they always smoke and modern 2 stroke oil sometimes doesnt smoke blue/white
Bravo! Well done GG! If i remember the crankcase is a pressure vessel to push the premix passed the reed valve. The crank seals need to be replaced everytime the case is open according to the guy in Ohio...2vintage.
Yes they can run in reverse i had a mt Elsinore but I never run it backwards i did run my ts ninty backwards was a crack up crash started it backwards bown a small hill
you still didnt time the ignition. the ignition backing plate rotates to adjust the timing. also smoking so much because its getting too much oil because you are running off the autolube and premix

Amazing work bro!!! The best thing of your channel is the "not perfectly restoration" way of doing things, but still obtaining great results with a bike that can be used as it is supposed to. Don't you think that the rubber mudguard on the front fender should be inverted? usually they go facing the engine to avoid rocks and mud going there?
The mudflap on the front mudguard is supposed to be at the front as it is. They come out of the factory like that, it's unusual and almost every other bike has it at the back of the mudguard to stop mud flinging into the engine etc as you would be aware.

G D young man, it's a good job your not my son going out without back brakes and dodgy front ones, you genuinely turned my stomach 😳(i hope you were joking about them) saying all that, me and an old aquintance went out on a bike with an allen bolt holding the chain, got caught, and had it taken off me by the cops 😡
White smoke stops and you aren't on the dipstick. You drank all the gearbox oil. Open up the dipstick tube while the bike is running. You should only hear the gears spinning. If you hear excessive combusting sounds that match the bikes rpm you know damn well the seals are cooked.
Is the oil problem from the engine turning backwards? It was moving the oil in the wrong direction so that might have put the oil where is wasn't suppose to be. First thing i would do is fix that brake. It is crazy to wheelie without the brakes working to me. but odds are i would have done it too even knowing that I shouldn't. I tend to get caught up in the moment too. You're abut 90% done and it looks great and sounds great too.
Love the smell of a 2smoke in the morning. Just need to put the front mudguard (fender) on forwards now and the bike will all be going the correct way.
The rings are so warn that it back kicked and yes it will run backwards and yes you probably Got a bad right seal that's the one that oil can get in combustion chamber just do a new top end real easy unless the seal is bad you have to crack the case that's what was wrong with mine
Happened to me a long time ago with a 1981 IT 175. We just bumped started it.

Your seals are gone that's why it was extra smoke and now gearbox oil is low new seals and she will be swt and it will go even better

You have oil injection plus you put in mixed gas in tank also. Too much oil.
Considering the age of the bike, I would've replaced seals before putting it together. But hey, we all make mistakes

I had a bike in the 1980s that would bump start backwards but would only run for a few seconds
It's been running backwards since you first started it. You just never popped it into gear. You never messed with the engine or ignition timing either

Timing is off
Could it be that somebody try to bump start it backwards. Try putting it in second gear get a good run up and drop the clutch
