The time when Star Wars used to be a money printing machine, not just for Lucasfilm, but for every third party licensees like Hasbro and Ubisoft; is long since over. Now, the franchise has become a financial burden for almost everyone involved with it, and even the industry trades are beginning to admit that.

@@Blindluck92 This is absolutely true and everyone forgets that. In 2013, the teaser trailer for Frozen featured Olaf the snowman and Sven the reindeer instead of the two female main characters out of fear of alienating a potential male audience. Somehow, in less than a half a decade, Disney went from worrying about the male audience to deliberately making decisions that would drive them away. It's really quite amazing.

Because to course correct would mean to put fun and entertainment over agenda and the creatures running Disney and most of Hollywood these days are pushing agenda over profit. Frankly, if you look at how so much of modern entertainment is pushing the same agenda it becomes more and more obvious that it's an attempt at cult level brainwashing only on a massive scale. One of the ways cults brainwash their followers is by isolating them and then bombarding them 24/7/365 with their intended message until their subject is repeating the propaganda instinctively and reflexively. But any media consumed by the subject during that time that does not push the message or even contradicts it can damage or even break the brainwashing. That's why you see this same woke messaging EVERYWHERE in media these days.

Hasbro is struggling to sell Star Wars and Marvel toys. Meanwhile Bandai, Japan's biggest toy company, is making record profits off of Gundam model kits and Dragon Ball toys.

I recently got an airbrush and wanted to practice on a model, so I bought a Entry Grade Gundam kit. This is the cheapest kit they make, $11CND for the basic kit and $16CND for the kit plus extra weapon set (meaning the kit starts at something like $7USD)
The kit is surprisingly great, especially when you take the price into account. It looks great, the articulation is much better than expected and the fit is perfect.
It is called Entry Grade because it is meant to get people into building Gundam model kits and I think it would completely succeed in that mission. If Bandai was greedy, they could totally justify charging two or three times the price.

It's basically every aspect of what made Star Wars work in OT and PT being killed all at once, be it as some weird plot or as the effects of the management as a whole taking many levels in dumbass. Consummate love for the crafts of filmmaking were hallmarks of both those trilogies. So come new management, the new honcho in charge mishandles and mismanages them as horribly as game studios do their devs, crushing them with bad direction and crunch and pay and benefit issues so they collapse.
Only thing that makes me think it's not some deliberate plot and rather Homeric incompetence, is that the same happens across the entire VFX industry too.

I don't think it's a matter of just moving to the female centric point. Half the damage was done with TLJ initially when they cut the audience in half at best. The subsequent products after that have of course been female centric but two of the biggest sticking points that have been a common thread have been poor quality and atrocious fan/customer interaction on the company's part. If every female character since TFA was changed to a male and they they removed the misandrist messaging, the products would still be terrible quality and fans would still have been out in a mass exodus. They haven't only been attacking men and/or our interests. They've fundamentally been attacking and defacing SW as a brand showing a fundamental disagreement with the basis of the Jedi. That's why they've gone out of their way to fundamentally change the Jedi in their "High Republic" setting moving them fundamentally away from anything the Jedi stand for and orienting them around values more in line with the Sith than anything.

    • @stephenshelton4267

I think they were trying to take the Star Trek route where they successfully jumped from Kirk/Spock/Bones to TNG, DS9, and VOY.
Even going female-cenrtic isn't bad, it's an easy way to make a show different from the others, but Disney did it in such a resentful woke way. I watched a pirated Solo with an apolitical friend and even he said "Why is a woman the hero in every new SW's movie?"

    • @Cortanis001
      @Cortanis001 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

@@stephenshelton4267 Even if they were trying to make that jump, it's especially not hard with SW. There's a long history of well written female characters that were part of the stories up until Disney got their claws on it. By all means, they should have tapped that but instead they decided to retcon everything and went out of their way to ruin as many legacy characters as they could. It's not just incompetence. It's malevolent incompetence as we saw from the Kenobi series.
For Kenobi they went out of their way to hire someone who not only wasn't a fan but hand not so much as watched even one of the movies. They then had him write and produce the project while fundamentally ignoring that he was working with characters who already had a story line going and Kenobi was at best a bridge series from the end of Ep3 to A New Hope. In other words, just to write for the series as a matter of necessity anyone doing work would have needed to watch both movies at a minimum to understand who the characters and motivations were. Instead they chose to Jake Skywalker Kenobi's character out of spite for fans once again.

He wanted ti take it away from the mostly male fans and give it to a female audience that never turned out. He did the same with Marvel, that had a mainly male fan base and he wanted to rip it from them and give it to the girls. He doesn’t care if they make money, it’s about the message and doing what he can to destroy the old. If it was about making money he would have reversed course and returned to what worked.

To be fair about the Ubisoft game, that would have gotten caught in the Sweet Baby Inc. crossfire even if Star Wars had been doing great and the character turns out to be well-written in-game. (I don't think having a female smuggler look more or less like I'd expect a female truck driver to look is necessarily out of place, if you were to remove that decision from all the other context that likely contributed to it). But Disney-Lucasfilm's constant bungling of the Star Wars franchise isn't doing the game any favors right now, either.

I managed to stay a loyal Star Wars fan, pouring money into toys and games as a grown adult, expecting to share this with my kids… now I have kids at the right age to share it with, but I’m done with Star Wars. Never would’ve thought they were capable of doing that

I'm right there with you. I'll still probably get around to watching the original trilogy with them, but for now we're watching Spy x Family. Never would have thought...

How quickly can Hasbro get rid of the license?

Since we know their ideological stance and what they did to WotC and Magic the Gathering because of that, I hope never, or until they go bankrupt at least.

I love and respect the sponsorship pivot, but Disney Star Wars isn't even worth the bandwidth anymore. 😆🤣

Unlike the ubisoft character, Jay Leno actually is a strong, independent woman!

One of the karmic wherefores workin against original cast of Star Wars is that the members thereof forgot to not be witches. Each of them made a decision to be no good.

When Disney first bought Star Wars I was worried they would turn it into too much of “kids” movie. Boy was I wrong. It was much much worse

Perhaps the back scratching is something they are unwilling to give up.
