    I appreciate that you talked about other classes. In my opinion, talking about just overall wins is kinda dumb, because of course the fastest class is going to have the overall win, but each class contends for their win and races the full 24 hours, so they should all get recognition.

      true, some of the lower classes have seen some truly dominant performances. the oreca vipers are the perfect example.

      @jeracerx ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It does make it funnier when that doesn't actually happen, early 2000's Daytona 24s and the 03 Spa 24 are prime examples of that, honestly times where the top class didn't win overall would probably be an interesting vid topic

    Man, Group C had the meanest, coolest looking cars in motorsport. I remember going to Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City for the '89 championship, at the height of Group C's popularity. That Mazda could be heard coming from miles away -- it was supremely loud! My favorite tho was the Silver Arrow Sauber-Mercedes that won that year and was dominant for much of the period. Fantastic cars, all of them.

    Anything mentioned after 787B in this video is just enough to defeat the "rotaries are banned" allegations thrown by... well, some "mainstream".
    Kinda sad that Mazda didn't capitalize off of the LMDh regulations, they exited IMSA when this ruleset is being introduced, but I just hope that they would cook once more especially knowing that rotary engines are referenced in the sporting regulations, though I wonder which team would be interested in running it...

      They won Le Mans once (as in overall,)
      They won at Le Mans 8 times (class wins)
      You are absolutely correct that a class win is just as impressive, as the only car designed to go for the overall win was the 787B, so to expect any of the others to win overall is just absurd.

      They didn't have a choice - the rotaries were banned in 1990 and weren't supposed to race in 1991. It was only the low 3.5L entries that at meant that at Le Mans only, they could enter the rotaries in 1991. The 792P was an IMSA-only car too, so was never intended for Le Mans.

    In the 1991 Le Mans race, many of Mazda's competitors, including the Mercedes Sauber and Jaguar XJR9, were slightly more powerful than Mazda, but none of them could last 24 hours because they were turbocharged and also heated much more, but the 787b with a naturally aspirated engine produced 700 horsepower. Ferrari and Porsche celebrate all of their wins regardless of class. Both makes created one make GT series to celebrate such accomplishments. The GT classes at LeMans have become a lot more competitive since the 1990s so yes, it is a victory worth celebrating. Plus GT cars have much more races to run in.

    When you win at Le Mans, you win overall. A class victory is not a win. There is one winner at Le Mans. Class victories are... lame.

      That's not how literally any person doing endurance racing sees it, though.

      Class wins are significant. They're justification for all the hard work each team member put in to getting the best from their car. They deserve to be on the podium at le mans.

      i consider class victory a win, as long as there is at least 5 others in the class.
