Malcolm, such wise advice. Many people waste their money on all sorts of things , with nothing to show for it; painting can bring joy to others, and ones self, I think it is a great bargain.
I'm so glad that I found you. I'm a student of sociology and I don't want to put pressure while painting, I just want to spend some time with colors. I can't make people understand the fact that it's not about perfection, it's about happiness.
As always you’re so good at inspiring and encouraging us, as though you know how a lot of us are feeling, whether about what’s happening around us or our art. And this beautiful little picture makes ME happy as well as you! Keep up the good work Malcolm👏😊
Malcolm, I am so happy I ran across your TH-cam account. I am enjoying your style and your comments are very useful to me. I very much enjoy impressionist painting and had no idea where or how to start. Now that I see how this is done, I am excited to try a little painting of my own. Thank you for your thoughtful presentations. I look forward to seeing more of your work in the future!
YOU CERTAINLY HAVE A WAY OF ENCOURAGING THE BEGINNING AND UNEXPERIENCED PAINTER. THIS FUN PROJECT WAS JUST WHAT I NEEDED AFTER A DAY OF TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT TO DO. I THINK I WILL JUST TRY THIS TOMORROW. I WOULD NEVER SKIP AHEAD TO THE BEGINNING OF HE DEMO BECAUSE WHAT IS BEING SAID BEFORE IS FOR SURE SOMETHING I NEED TO HEAR. MANY THANKS FOR ALL THE VIDEOS YOU MAKE AND THE TIME AND EFFORT YOU GIVE US ALL! YOU ARE AMAZING AND GENEROUS!
Timely advice, thank you Malcolm. Although I fed up everybody around with my weird creativity, the financial part is really essential for many of us. Thanks to your courses and inspiring videos, the members of live community are really creative and fast progressing. I hope this video will help many "hidden" artists to unleash their creativity despite all hurdles. Painting makes us happier!
I love everything about this video. You are very inspirational. The small painting you created was wonderful. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and knowledge.
Another great demonstration/painting Malcolm. Luv the composition/scene too. The guidance you impart in the video relating to painting practices is much appreciated.
Thank you so much for this - I’ve had so much stress lately and keep waiting for that to diminish to get back to my art. It’s also like exercise - hard to start (prep work) but once you do start it pays off so just do it…..you’re a great teacher!
Hello Malcolm and thank you for producing these brilliant videos. I love your honest approach, you are a man after my own heart. You have helped me in my understanding of water mixable oil paints. I will be trying them out in the near future, take care and thanks again.
Hi Malcolm. You are really so inspiring! I would recommend your videos to anyone feeling down and discouraged. I cant wait to delve into my box of off-cuts and other stuff which I was keeping in the hope that my grandchildren might be able to use them!
So pretty! Thank you, Malcolm. I am seriously working on my brushstrokes and clear colour notes at this stage! These videos are really helpful. Your courses and the videos not only giving us the fundamental knowledge, but a lot of creativity and life wisdom ❤🙏
You had me at "...of course, mainstream media, it's currency is fear, uncertainty, and doubt..." Then you started talking about inflation. Now we're friends. Nailed it. There are rather subtle ways that someone can let us know who he is. Delighted to find your channel. Subbed from the USA.
@@MalcolmDewey I really enjoy your videos. I am struggling quite a bit, and I truly do think that the culprit is the news and the generally poor state of the world and impending new lockdowns, which I am not looking forward to. Stay safe down there in SA and thanks for all of your effort and words of wisdom, Malcom.
This is a great idea, good to know. Thx for the method clearly stated. You are solving some of the financial problems associated with taking painting classes.
I just discovered your channel. I have so very much enjoyed your videos. Your approach and philosophy to painting is encouraging and uplifting. Love the idea of using what you have. Thanks for not speeding up the videos as so many tutorials do. I look forward to trying your method and will continue to watch. You brighten my day!
WHAT an appealing video! I’m trying to return to painting and this would be a great way to do it. I tend to bog down with large difficult works after a time away. Now I will be free to paint and this would be a wonderful way back. I really like painting on gessoed high quality paper and have a bud sketch book prepared just for that. Thanks. I really love your work.?It makes me happy too.
This is such a good idea. I always liked to paint on small surfaces sort of minatures. But the problem still remains, Its the mixing of the proper colors and keep them clean and brilliant.
Hi Malcolm! Tracey here from Australia. Thanks for the last couple of videos. I’ve been doing the sprints to institute the discipline of painting every day and have loved the variety of outcomes. Just wanted to ask about why a coloured background makes a difference when you can’t see any of it at the end of the painting and if choice of colours are purposeful? Blessings to you and your family
Thank you. The background tone can be exposed intentionally with some techniques. Other times it's just to get rid of the white surface. My painting approach usually covers it all, but sometimes bits show through. What happens, happens 😊
Thanks Malcolm. I enjoy your videos and demos very much. I have been working in acrylics and was wondering if, in your opinion, I should invest in oils in order to progress.
Lovely. I am reminded of a man in my senior center (a year ago) who painted with instant coffee, cigarette ashes, whatever was in front of him. He would prick his hand for blood if he needed red. Another guy I know does huge beautiful chalk drawings on sidewalks in the park. What minimum supplies can do!
I really appreciate your content & your wonderful voice as well!! You have such insight and inspiration, your manner is soothing and inspiring, thank you so much ! Straight out of Central Crasting, too❣🤗
There is no real formula to it. I prefer a warm base for landscapes like burnt sienna. But others use a neutral grayish color and that works too. If you want the base to show through then color temperature is more important.
Hi I have started practising your course from Udemy how to loosen up your painting n also uploaded a tried painting of mine can u please give feedback on that I also enjoyed ur all demonstration n ur style of painting Thank you
I hope this inspires you to start your next painting today 😀 btw the demo begins at 04:43 if you want to skip ahead.

That is truly brilliant 💜💜💜 I love the way you are able to put wet paint on wet without it blending and turning muddy .
Thank you very much.
As usual, you have nuggets of wisdom, from the theoretical to the practical. Thanks for sharing your insight
Much appreciated, thank you

Thank you, yes I do think oils are a natural progression. Water mixable oils may be easier but oils offer so much.
Good subject. Thought provoking. Also would appreciate more gouache.
Thank you, there's a new gouache demo today 🙂
Thank you again for producing such informative content.
I definitely qualify as a FUDDY DUDDY! 😜
Your artwork is beautiful btw.
My pleasure! 😄
malcolm, do you use mediums and paint thinner when painting or do you just use plain paint?
No mediums. But a little white spirits in the beginning to loosen up the composition layer. Very little.
Thank you🎨❤👍
You're welcome 😊

Hello Malcolm I hope you are well. Can you please tell me if you are using water mixable oil paints in place of oil paint?
I am testing Georgian water mixable at the moment. But I still have a lot of regular oils so have not given them up.
How do you decide what color to use as a base coat?
There is no real formula to it. I prefer a warm base for landscapes like burnt sienna. But others use a neutral grayish color and that works too. If you want the base to show through then color temperature is more important.
Thank you!!!
You're welcome!
Right, don't get stuck in details! You loose the life, spirit and your own expression. Mostly, need to "be there".
Exactly
How long does it take to dry your oil paintings? And where do you put them all to dry? That's what puts me off.
Takes about two weeks in our warm climate. They stand on shelves, bookcases - yes you can make racks etc too. Store carefully after drying too 😊
@@MalcolmDewey Thank you :)
