BEST REVIEW SO FAR. NO one else shows this technique, let alone using the machine correctly. It's easy to sharpen a kitchen knife but an ornate one like this is very hard. Thank you for this video!

Nice video. Could you demonstrate how to get the tip back after accidentally rounding it?

HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! Mine tan-toe is now a recurve. I kind of like it considering it has more curves than my last gf.

I did the same thing. With no support, I said fuck it and just went with it. Poor design in my opinion.. the sharpener that is. There is no support to keep the angle while you're on the belt. And that little part gets fucked up.

Thanks for the video. About to sharpen one now. Glad to have this. Like said in your others... these are so helpful. Thanks again. Oh and Properly called tah-nto like prawn. “Ah sound” (Speak Japanese, 20 yrs of weapons training in Martial Arts) I’ve never seen a tanto curved like yours before. I’d probably describe that more as a tanto tip than a true tanto. Maybe I’m being pedantic. It’s interesting though. Usually just a straight blade then a 45° to the tip. Cool design.

Which part of the knife do you want leaning on the guide, the spine of the knife?

I had had my crkt m16-14dsfg flat ground on the blade grinding attachment, but if I did it like this and got the convex shape of the blade on it, would it perform better and be sharper? and for longer than the flat ground way?

Good video Doug. Question: which guide on the standard model do you think is best for a thin machete like the Tramontina, I've heard mixed opinions. Thanks.

Can the rounded corner be corrected?

Man I keep rounding my tips!! I'm trying to be as careful as possible but i'm just no good with my work sharp. I have the regular model, is the ken onion model easier to use? How can I fix my rounded tip?? Thanks

When you do the tip, there is no support. That's where I have the issue.

It takes a lot more finesse sharpening tantos I rounded 3 already

If you're sharpening an American tanto style you're sharpening two different edges, not just one. Now add the serrations and that's three separate edges on one blade! With any belt system you have to treat it like that, unless you want to grind all those features away and turn your tactical wizbang tanto into a plain edge knife. The WSKTSKOE won't generate enough heat to ruin the temper, but you have to understand your blade and the machine usage to get the best out of it! Great video sir!

can the ken onion edition or the original sharpen knifes with a quarter inch thick spine?

+trey olson I know the original can, as I have done it. I imagine the Ken Onion could as well.

trey olson just finished sharpening a Schrade with a quarter inch spine. It handles it just fine.

You chose a tanto with a HUUUUGGGGGGE tanto blade, which obviously makes it 1000 times easier to preserve the technique. Show us how to sharpen the tanto blade with a tanto blade length that doesn't allow the blade to stay in the guide!!
