- The old Westinghouse building in Cleveland, Ohio was originally owned by John Walker, a machinist who manufactured heavy machinery:
Walker Manufacturing Corporation
The plant produced a variety of heavy machinery, including hydraulic shears, hydraulic riveters, cable railroad machinery, and foundry equipment.
Westinghouse Electric
In 1898, George Westinghouse, the founder of Westinghouse Electric, bought the plant from Walker after winning a patent-infringement lawsuit. Westinghouse began producing aluminum and brass castings, and later expanded to produce lights for airports and highways. [2, 3]
Westinghouse Lighting Division
In the 1960s, the plant became the headquarters of the Westinghouse Lighting Division, employing over 560 workers.

Conversion
In 1994, the EATON CORPORATION bought Westinghouse for $1.6 billion and began converting the plant into a commercially oriented enterprise.
