There is something very satisfying to make your quilt start to finish!!! Thank you for encouraging us to take the risk and quilt it ourselves on our domestic machines. I just started quilting last year and got a walking foot for my 1957 Singer that I bought in highschool, my service guy says “ don’t ever sell this machine” ! I love quilting on my old girl !!!
So very happy to be able to watch #replay. Love y'all so very much! So thrilled to see you & Jenny and hear Liz. God Bless you, Jenny! Prayers & love now & always.🤗🥰🦩🐇
I had an eye injury from a zipper on a pillow used in a pillow fight with a 2 yr old. The pain lasted for years until i found the best eye doctor!! She suggested i have surgery to remove the scar tissue that kept surfacing. Best thing i ever did!! I know how miserable you must be but being Jenny... still cheerful as ever! I am also cheerful because I get to preorder this wonderful box I missed out on last year!! Thank you so much!!❤️❤️
Glad our beautiful friend is better. Saw her picture on IG and she is really looking good. Her smile seemed even brighter. Thank you for this lesson today. I am so nervous with machine quilting. I gotta just get out of my head and practice practice practice.
Wow Jenny I’m glad your getting better and your eyesight isn’t affected!!! Thank you Misty and Liz for this tutorial on quilting with a walking foot it looks so doable I’m going to try it!!!! Again thank you MSQC!!
So glad you are going to be ok! I suggest putting something on your eye drop bottle (and only the eye drop bottle), wrap it with a bandaid, tape or rubber band. Something you can tell by feel as an extra measure when you can't see/read the label clearly. This is something I've had visually impaired patients do and its been helpful in preventing mix ups between eye/ear drops. Prayers for a speedy recovery 💐😊
Thank-you for this great tutorial. Love that you are guiding us through and taking the mystery out of straight line quilting. My mom sewed all her quilts this way. Can’t wait for your next straight line tutorial!! Great job ladies🥰
Jenny so sorry about your eye but glad it will be ok! Yes please do more quilting on home machine! I simply can’t afford to get everything long arm quilted! I’ve used the walking foot for several years and now starting on free motion. I’d love to have Misty learning with me and helping!
I have book 1 from this author. I read it in one setting. I will be ordering the 2.0 I also got the Christmas box at midnight last night. This was a first shopping at midnight. I really enjoyed all Of the teachings.
I am piecing a quilt right now on which this type of quilting will work perfectly. I did not know how to use that space bar before and I can't wait to try it. Thank you so much for this very valuable tutorial.
Hello from Virginia Beach! This was a great tutorial ladies! I need simple instructions with a visual aid to be able to digest and retain the info. This fit perfectly. I have never used the guide thingy because I wasn't sure how to...all of that straight line marking each line is now gone! My back and I thank you. I've not seen the powder product for basting, but it looks good. I usually use the spray, but the powder eliminates the overspray and inhalation issues. Again, thanks. I guess I don't have any excuses not to finish what I start! I do appreciate Jenny and Missouri Star. I've watched the videos for a couple of years and have learned so much. Thanks to all. Stay safe 👀💧!
The key take away from your video was to ‘walk not run’. I’ve use this method before but went back to marking because I wasn’t as happy with the results. This method is such a timesaver and think slowing down will be a game changer for me. And, sharing Jenny’s experience will help prevent others from doing the same. As always, thank you for your videos, I always enjoy and learn from them!
Thanks Misty. So glad I know what that little bar that came in my accessories box is for! Good tutorial...I need to be reminded it’s a walking foot, not a running foot😁 hope Jenny’s eye is better soon...ouch. 💕🇦🇺
I think you should go back to reading the label every time. Great idea. This makes my upcoming cataract surgery look like a breeze. Thanks for the education for your Missouri Star viewers. I'm so sorry that this happened to you and it's wonderful that you're getting your eyesight back. A miracle.
Always wondered how to attach and use the guide bar! Thank you so much for the tutorial. And, thank you to Liz for adding your expertise and hints. You two make a great team!
I've been quilting this way for years, table runners, wall hangings.... Love it. So easy. But love this video. a refresher coarse!!!! Praying for Jenny. What a traumatic experience. :(
So excited! - Signed up for “MSQC ‘ JENNY’S BOX!” This is my first ever adventure such a this! I'm tickled pink to be sharing this wonderful “gift” from & with MSQC! THANK YOU!
Love love loved my Christmas box last year? Thank you for the pre sale... great idea! I put a tree in my bedroom and put my Christmas box under that tree and woke up each morning of December to a fun awesome gift! Sooo awesome to see Jenny... may you continue to improve with each new day! You are greatly loved 🥰 Jenny and your fabulous company MSQC! Thank you for all you do for the Quilting world! Take Good Care of yourself! Many prayers going up for you! 🙏🙏🙏😘❤️
I just ordered Jenny’s Christmas Box! Thank you for making it available for pre-order now. The 2-payment plan certainly helps me to fit it into my budget. Stay well! 💜
Liz, you should read audiobooks! Your voice and manner of speaking are ideal for this! Appreciate all of the tips and reassurance from both of you for best, but not perfect, quilting.
Jenny, so sorry to hear about your eye injury. I also have dry eyes and use drops. This was a great tutorial video, and I am getting the two WALK books. Using the walking-foot sounds easier than free motion. Thank you for all your creative videos.
The very first quilt I ever made I did like this. I had no idea that this was someone’s method; I just thought this was how ya did it with a walking foot and a guide. I like to tell people that I’m inherently lazy, so this was a super easy (lazy) way to get it done! 😏 😉
So sorry to hear of your eye mishap.! That had to be really scary. I did a similar thing two weeks ago. I put finger nail oil instead of eye drops. I could not believe I really did that! For myself I said slow down and stay focused! I hope you heal quickly and carry on. 😍
So sorry about your eye incident. That had to be painful and frightening!! Enjoyed this tutorial. I have used my bar, but positioned it differently. Guess it works both ways.!
My husband has the Lionel scented smoke fluid for his model trains. I accidently put in my eye which was a painful mistake. Now I double check and triple check my eye drops!
I’ve been using this method recently because my mother’s mid arm on a frame is at the doctor’s office. I will often echo seams in my piecing when straight line quilting. Of course, the largest quilt I will tackle on my home machine is a small throw size. It’s rather challenging to roll, squish and squeeze that much fabric into such a small throat space.
I love to do a cross hatch design on my quilts and I love to use this design on my project bags and small projects as well I learned this tech. years ago when I got my first walking foot and love to use it when ever I can.
OMGoodness Jenny! Must’ve been so scary! Happy happy happy you’re eyesight will be ok.🌸 Misty & Liz are quite a team. Liz shares lots of great info and tips. It’s like she’s reading the questions in my mind 😁 Such a pleasant voice. Misty does such a great job with the live tutorials. Always look forward to the new one. Thank You for giving us such fun tutorials. 🥰 💖
Wow 7 years ago i made some oven mitts and squares and didn't have a walking foot..yet... So i have no idea how i made them lol but i do remember starting in the middle just as you did and I've had my walking foot for a long time now so i don't remember when i got it and don't remember when i used the guide lol .. I'm a crafter not necessarily a quilter but i love your videos and using other methods of sewing for some of my projects!!🤓🤓
Poor Jenny....you are more than angly challenged young lady (lol). But you're always in a positive spirit. So happy about the Christmas Box pre-order. It was the highlight of my Christmas in 2020. My granddaughter and I were excited every day to see what was new. Feel better
Kudos to you for using fusible powder. I have the Bo-Nash Fuse-It Powder and have yet to achieve satisfactory results with it on small projects, let alone on a full-size quilt. Although I detest the smell and the inconvenience of finding a “safe” space to use it, I get the best results on small projects using 505 Temporary Fabric Adhesive. For quilts, I have resorted to renting a long arm to baste my sandwich together, and which then allows me to take my time to do the actual quilting on my domestic machine. On my next quilt project, I will be trying an edge-to-edge design from Amelie Scott Designs. If you have any experience with edge-to-edge quilting on an embroidery/domestic machine, I would greatly appreciate a video on your tips and tricks for beginners 😎👍🏻 Praying for a speedy and complete recovery for Jenny♥️🙏🏻♥️
Dear Jenny I hope your eye heals quickly. Years ago I put OraGel in my eye instead of my night-time eye moisturizer gel. I’m sure the nail glue was much worse than what I did, but many of us have done something like that too
I bought a used machine from a widower who knew nothing about his wife’s sewing supplies. I got a Janome with a walking foot and table extension. I saw a bent metal thing on the table with other things. I did not know what it was. Now I know and I should have taken that guide.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you sooooo much! I can’t get the hang of free motion quilting. I can’t deal with the stitches not being all the same length 🙄. This method I can do!!! Glad your eye will be ok! That had to be a very scary experience!
The bar should be flipped over and sewn from the other side. That gives you several inches of bar running on the sewn line. Never saw it done this way.
I don't use batting in my quilts unless its dead winter. I make the top, turn it inside out with the backing and quilt it....waaalaaaa...easy! saves on powders, basting sprays, etc
What I do if the thread breaks in the middle: I bring the bottom thread up and try to make a knot. I then bring the loose end(s) into the sandwich. So, when I start new in the line, no bottom thread is there to make a mess 😁
Hi from sunny UK. I thought this a very interesting video today but having used a walking foot for over 20 years and was surprised to see that you had it on upside down. The curve on the bar should be at the bottom and run over the fabric and not the point at the end of the curve. However, it seemed to be a better way to accurately follow the previous line of stitching. Well done, Misty, another wonderful presentation. So sorry to hear Jenny had an accident with her eye. Hope you get well soon, Jenny.

Good morning from Union Oregon
Oh poor Jenny! I guess you’ll read the label next time. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Jenny from Leicester, UK
So glad you are ok!
So glad your ok Jenny.
Jenny, one of my dear friends did the same thing a few years ago. She is fine now with no long term effects.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you sooooo much! I can’t get the hang of free motion quilting. I can’t deal with the stitches not being all the same length 🙄. This method I can do!!! Glad your eye will be ok! That had to be a very scary experience!
If you flip the guide bar you can have the bent part run on the actual quilt.
Yes but it will be on the wrong side. 😕
The bar should be flipped over and sewn from the other side. That gives you several inches of bar running on the sewn line. Never saw it done this way.
I used the same panel for my grandsons quilt but my good friend did the quilting.
I thought the guide bar went on the inside and that the rounded part of the arm rode along the stitching you were following. Always learning.
Oh dear Jenny, wishing you a speedy recovery. Oh my goodness!
I don't use batting in my quilts unless its dead winter. I make the top, turn it inside out with the backing and quilt it....waaalaaaa...easy! saves on powders, basting sprays, etc
Thank you! Watching on the Big Island! Mahalo nui loa!!
Thank you for this video I learned so much!
Bless your heart oh I mean eye. I use the Systane also. I put my glasses on and double check the bottle. I am terrified of using something wrong.
What I do if the thread breaks in the middle: I bring the bottom thread up and try to make a knot. I then bring the loose end(s) into the sandwich. So, when I start new in the line, no bottom thread is there to make a mess 😁
I usually have scrap quilt sandwiches that I use to test my tension, foot height and speed. I turn the scraps into mug rugs and/or bowl cozies.
Misty I have found the if you use some sort of gloves it really helps. I got a pair of gardening gloves from the dollar store. They work great.

Hello from Dover Delaware
Jenny my prayers go out to you.
Hi from sunny UK. I thought this a very interesting video today but having used a walking foot for over 20 years and was surprised to see that you had it on upside down. However, it seemed to be a better way to accurately follow the previous line of stitching. Well done, Misty, another wonderful presentation.
So sorry to hear Jenny had an accident with her eye. Hope you get well soon, Jenny.
The bar I have is used as you say on the right-hand side of the foot but the curve is “upside down” on the left side.
You should have two guide bars . One for the right side and one for the left side. The curve should be pointing up.
Some only come with one guide. Why they’re made to primarily fit on the right side is beyond me. Completely backwards for quilting!
@@valerievesper9216 probably originally designed for garment sewing. I have a Pfaff with the built in walking foot. Only got the one but it fits in either side. I don’t have a problem with using it facing either way. Still just a guide.
