    I did this with an old yard sale acoustic. Back was gone. Bridge was buckled. Neck wiggled in the dove tail joint and the fret board was dangling and broken. I flattened sanded the neck and cut its width down to 1.5 inches. Gave it an extra thick fret board to compensate for material removed. The back was replaced with 3mm ply that I ribbed to support properly. I glued up the bottom 2/3ds of the back first. Then sprung the neck back while gluing up the last third. This gave me the sacred back angle for my new floating bridge.And while the back was off I installed a piezo. The thing is amazing. It has sent me down an acoustical rabbit hole making my own cigar boxes now.

    You just did what im about to do. I already got a guitar from the thrift store and was going to move the strings and turn it into a 3 string guitar. I just can't play a C cord. 1 finger hits 3 strings. Now your next project. Turn a Plastic Guitar Hero into a 3 string guitar. Im ready😊

Followed by the always entertaining and informative kool cat noodling. And finally, a practical lesson for us beginners. Awesome, info packed video. Feeling blessed.

    There is a similar concept to this, but with a broken fiddle instead of a broken guitar, from appalachia. If the neck gets messed up on a violin, it was replace with a plank of wood and one or two string and called a 'spike fiddle', or if it had frets it was called a 'guitfiddle'

      @@PuckettCigarBoxGuitar yeah it an Appalachian folk instrument along with dulcimers and wood-top banjos and auto-harps. the people in appalachia were very poor and had little, so if something precious and expensive like a violin brought over (from the home country of ireland) got broken, the remaining parts wouldn't go to waste...

    A funny little tid bit to mention about this video, is the fact that just before drilling you ask the viewers to wish you luck. By the time we see the video, that sucker was drilled, played, and hung over the fireplace, lol. I still wished you good luck though. Enjoy your videos, and your information is being applied to my first builds. I'm currently on number 2. Chuck McCoy..

    Really wanted to see the original tuning pegs used TBH however, the new ones did look better.
    The fret board confused the hell outta me as a DADGAD 6 string guitar player LOL. The more traditional fret board would be more my thing, and when i get to eventually own a 3 string CBG i would probably tune to DAD.

    What do you think of the idea of having 3 small floating saddles instead of 1 to make adjusting intonation easier? I find it difficult after doing one string not to move it while adjusting another. Can you think of anything that would make that difficult/impossible?

    • @PuckettCigarBoxGuitar
      @PuckettCigarBoxGuitar  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      thats why i use a balanced set of strings… so the saddle can be a. straight line (but tilted to accommodate for string thickness)

    0:55 … aw, Ken Pfalzgraf (Paul Mero Junkpile Guitars) could fix that … that could be buffed right out!!
    10:54… almost…it’s measure once and cuss twice! 😉
    18:24 … Mighty Mite!!! I love mine! I thought the blade on mine had gone dull after about 6 fretboards but all it was the teeth had been clogged with wood, I cleaned the blade… good as new! Always clean your blades!!
    18:43 … I think you meant to say was 0.023 kerf…
    The table adjust knob on the Mighty Mite is very poorly designed and placed, there’s not enough space for a hand to properly grip the thing to tighten easily, it’s a pain! I made a tool that fits over the knob and extends out far enough to grasp and loosen and tighten it! It’s much much easier to make adjustments in the table height with the sled on.
    AND WOW! That guitar sounds great!!!

    How about a 6 string Cigar Box Guitar in B Flat (It's tuned D, G, C, F, A, D).

    • @RockStarOscarStern634
      @RockStarOscarStern634 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      What that means is when you do a C Chord it'll sound as a B Flat & actually Magma makes special strings for D Standard Tuning (GAT-D is the Model). That means this new 6 string Cigar Box Guitar transposes down a step from Concert pitch exactly like a B Flat Clarinet, B Flat Trumpet, & B Flat Soprano Sax.
