Started playing the cigar box guitar a month ago.
I decided it was time I learned to play an instrument after trying at school and failing miserably.
I have been really struggling as a complete beginner to grasp it, then hey presto I found this video. I. Now playing along to some of my favourite songs (Not harry styles 🤣). It's given me a real confidence boost.
Thank you so much for the video it really has changed my life.
I would recommend this to anyone, complete newbies like me to those who have played for years.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Extraordinarily useful. One of the great barriers to making music is understanding how music works. This makes the practical understanding of music clear. Anyone can do this. So smart.

That's how I taught myself to play. Google the chords then write down fret numbers and play around with it while listening to the song to get the rhythm down. After you get the chords and rhythm then work on learning some embellishments.

I use a label maker and stick the cords in the upside if the neck.

Hi Mike …. Thanks very much for creating these videos. I had never heard of a cigar box guitar before tonight but it looks like a lot of fun. I am in the process of setting up a little system to play at some assisted care places in the area and a cigar box guitar might be an interesting addition. I was surprised when you said you are in Marietta. I am up in Woodstock. Thanks again.

I believe that a pinky 3 frets up on the high string will make a chord minor?

I've been adapting Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon to 3 string cbg for quite some time! Plus a bunch of others, rock, country, metal etc... I have a 6x8 blank sketchbook that I figure out the tab for a tune... it's labor intensive but for working out complicated chords with sus and add 9's etc it's invaluable, coupled with Brent Robitaille's "The Complete Cigar Box Guitar Chord Book" 3 String Edition really really helps!!

Best video ever! I have zero musical knowledge and an uncooperative left hand and shoulder, but determined to figure out how to play an instrument.
I have a three string cbg i want to play in my lap like a lap steel using just a slide. Can't find any local instructors and no one doing cbg lap style online so far. After watching this video im wondering is it possible to use slide to just bar all three strings to get the note i need?

Cheaters put the chord name on the edge of the neck facing them so they can just go to the chord instead of having to rely on the tuner to let them know when they have found it. The audience, if there is one, won't see the chords unless they are very close to the performer. Cheating is good, sometimes. LOL
