    A buddy of mine showed me where to find malachite and troilite (a rare nickel/iron blend) so I had to go and collect some. I've got some neat plans for this stuff.
    Enjoy the video!!

      lots of mining activity in that area and lots of cool minerals! I almost like going underground more than I like rocks… almost! Can’t wait to see what you do with that stuff

    Another beautiful rockhounding local you've taken us to! That is some really cool looking stuff. Very colorful and unique. Thank you for showing what it looks like cut and grinded down a little. Definitely some pretty neat stuff. You got the wheels turning in my head trying to plan another vacation out to Oregon next Spring. Good job finding some serpentine, too out there. Have a great weekend, buddy.

    Love all that green. Nice spot. I hope you washed your hand after handling that toxic nickel and copper carbonate. Stay safe. Thanks for another fun and very interesting video Andrew!

    If you make it back to NorCal, on the east side of the state there are some awesome spots for minerals. Search up Portola and Downieville if youre ever in the area! Beautiful country out that way

      Unfortunately not, but I have a buddy w/ a channel up there. He finds really nice material and makes great videos. His channel is called NWRockExplorer

    Azurite is very cool. Is it just on the surface of host rock like rust ?

      pretty wicked stuff. I sent it to a knife maker and am hoping he'll be able to make something out of it and post it on his YT channel

      Thats what I was thinking. Hopefully the guy I'm sending some to will be able to make something cool with it. Hopefully it will forge ^^

    Del Norte COunty has a great deal of nickel.

    Is it workable if you stick into a forge? 🤔

    • @TheRogueRockhound
      @TheRogueRockhound  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm sending some to a knife maker to let him play around with it. He said it releases sulfur dioxide but there may be ways around it

      @TheRogueRockhound good to know. My husband is a knife maker also in GP.

      You could refine it into iron, but that’s about it.

  • @canadiangemstones7636
    @canadiangemstones7636 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Sigh. Troilite is an iron sulfide, not a nickel-iron blend. How did you distinguish it from pyrrhotite, a much, much more common sulfide?

    • @TheRogueRockhound
      @TheRogueRockhound  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Its an old mining spot that is known for troilite (documented since the late 50s). I also had it confirmed at our local gem and mineral society.

    How does this cut and polish?

    • @TheRogueRockhound
      @TheRogueRockhound  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its pretty soft so you could cut/polish w/ basic tools. Pretty neat stuff
