    Also FYI the number you said was card count is actually the initiative for when playing against other players to determine tie breaks

    It might be already clear for you but just in case for new listeners: at 8:40 the value is the initial advantage for your character in the game at the very first start. It´s not the initiave nor the maximum amount of cards that you can have in your deck...it`s the very first advantage (in case of a tie somewhere or something else like placement of figures orfresponding to an already played card....when everybody is revealing his cards there is the opportunity to replace the already played card with another card from your hand. This order of replacing cards goes from the lessest advantage to the highest advantegs etc.)....that`s what this value is about.

    Good tip on printing a copy of the turn and timing sequences. I think many more games should come with reference sheets like this, even if it's just on normal printing paper! It is still helpful.

    Regarding your "question" on blocking the attack as you were unsure if you were actually blocking the effects pathway......I think you would have blocked the attack, because when reading the note on page 19 it says: "Attack effects that target s single hex may still have multiple attack pathways if there are multple "shortest routes". At least one (!!!) hex of these pathways must be blocked for the attack effect to be ignored"...which was the case in your exmple, if you`re asking me.
    ...additionally: Effect pathways consists of battlefield hexes between an attacker and the targeted battlefield hex in a direct pathway using the shortest route.
    So in your case: He was standing 2 fields away from you and his attacking hex was exactly you. BUT as you were blocking the hex in between him and your figure this was blocking the effects pathway. Even if there would have been multiple possible pathways...at least one was blocked and therefore the whole attack was blocked...in my point of view.
    A generla comment: As the cards are the key element in the game I would have wished that they would have taken more care on the cards and examples in the rulebook. The rulebook is not that long but full with detailed specifications......a few more words on the function of the cards would have helped a lot in understanding this game better.

    Not heard of this game but like the look of it quite a bit. Ghost of Tsushima vibes. May seek out a copy.

      I don’t really have a duel game like this so it was good to put it into my collection. I am enjoying the challenge of it right now for sure!

    "Kamae" is actually a Japanese word which is best translated as "stance" so you were right both times on that point!
    Also, some clarification for you on the block situation:
    With the position and facing you had, you were blocking both spaces you needed to cover all valid paths to you. The logic you had at the end was correct, but you were thinking of the angle of your block incorrectly. You should have only had 1 wound at the end of the video, not 2.
    I agree that the game would have benefitted (a lot) from some examples in the rulebook, but I think you're overstating how many edge cases there are. Also, the game has an official Discord server and there's an active FAQ section which they're planning to compile a proper document from soon. Hopefully (lot of hope, the KS delivery situation has been, and still is, a total mess so far) it won't take them too long to get that together and available for the clarifications people need.

      Thanks for the clarification. Perhaps there are not that manny edge cases and it is just gamer error. Either way, the game is very fun and I look forward to many more plays!

      @@JohnLaRuffa The issue is with the way the rulebook is laid out - and as you pointed out in the video, a lack of any printed examples. A lot of situations require you to check 3 or 4 different pages in the rulebook to understand how certain cards interact while you're learning. That makes it *feel* less clear for someone who's new to the game.
      I have the advantage of having followed along with the project throughout the KS run and seen a lot of gameplay over that time (and a lot of rulebook edits). It takes time for the rules to "click" while you're watching or playing, but once they do, the logic behind them is pretty consistent.

      @@a-blivvy-yus That’s good to hear! I feel like I am getting the hang of things but I still have a lot of content to see.

    Not a fan of deck construction games like this. Ironically, Lord of the Rings LCG is in my top 5 solo games of all time, but there's a website that has thousands of pre-made fan deck constructions that makes it easy to build a deck right away. If Senjutsu had that, I'd buy it. But since this is likely not going to be a popular solo game, they won't have something similar.

    • @JohnLaRuffa
      @JohnLaRuffa  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I understand. To me, I might like constructing the deck more than anything else since that is part of the puzzle that I enjoy about these types of games.

      There are premade deck lists in the box and quite a few on their discord. I'm sure once people actually receive the game more deck lists will pop up.

      @@JohnLaRuffa I'm different, which is ok. I like to just pick up and go. That's why I didn't like Warfighter. Building a squad took me way too much time than actually playing a mission.

    • @JohnLaRuffa
      @JohnLaRuffa  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @realdealastrology9 Well Warfighter was a serious extreme here. With that and all similar “Leader” games, the setup is half of the game and that was just not fun for me either. But, I get you!
