A Bob Marley (and the Wailers) song from the 70s, my other favorite living jazz pianist Monty Alexander was the first to include this song in his repertoire, among his "most favorite" tunes from the island of his birth. Coincidentally (or not) I'd just been listening to his "Live at Maybeck" concert recording. Completely different, but just as wonderful as this Zycopolis TV -- whose production values have set the standard. See their James Taylor concert in sub- tropical Nice, France. The camerawork is outstanding. Ever wonder about the song title? What does NO WOMAN NO CRY mean? WIKI says: The title and main refrain, "No Woman, No Cry", means "Woman, don't cry." The lyric is sometimes misunderstood outside Jamaica to mean "if there is no woman, there is no reason to cry". The lyric is rendered "No, woman, nuh cry" in Jamaican Patois. So there. If you're in a hurry and can't spare eight minutes immediately, pick it up at the half-way point around 3:33 when Monty goes "anthemic" on us, before really groovin' ! My wife and I saw Monty 20 years ago at Winnipeg's Izzy Asper Jazz Center. My wife is a sort-of jazz fan -- our favorite concert we saw together at Winnipeg's 2,000 seat Centennial Concert Hall -- Oscar Peterson and guitar legend Joe Pass alone together. Monty's concert a decade later was my wife's other favorite show. This video reminds us why! Thanks for sharing ZYCOPOLIS TV.
Merci Monty Alexander !
Merci de diffuser ce concert. C'est toujours aussi beau.
What a great performance! Just one tune is too short. I want more!
