@@Easyly1953 they've had their part to play too. Some really great and outstanding, some decent, and some okay. Not perfect but overall, we have a relatively competent successorship forming our modern day government compared to multiple nations. That said, LKY was the one who built that foundation/blueprint in the first place, and that's why he gets this much credit to our nation's success.

I am a Singaporean who's pushing 60. I had witnessed first hand, Singapore's progression from a 3rd world country to a 1st world nation under the leadership of Mr LKY. Mr LKY was a very much beloved leader who was admired and respected by the people. At his state funeral, millions turned up to pay their last respects, with hundreds of thousands queuing overnight for 8 to 10 hours to do so. We love this man because he truly cared for our welfare and was deeply burdened by our survival as a nation when Malaysia kicked us out of the Federation. I, and I believe the older generation will always be grateful to this man, and we will always hold him dear to our hearts. Thank you Mr Lee Kuan Yew ❤.

Singapore is a mirror image to Sri Lanka with hard working indian population, small little island , but only 1 different. ......That , Singapore has its natural asset - its natural geographic maritime location but Sri Lanka don't ......
You need to be intelligent and rational not be emotional and shallow........The key reason for Singapore's remarkable prosperity and economic success is its strategic geographic location as a major global shipping hub. Being situated at the heart of important maritime trade routes between Asia and the rest of the world has allowed Singapore to capture immense economic benefits from the trillions of dollars in maritime commerce passing through its waters.
In contrast, a country like Sri Lanka, despite its own geographic advantages, has not been able to achieve the same level of economic development and wealth because it does not occupy a similarly critical position in major global shipping lanes.
The implication is that Singapore's prosperity is heavily dependent on its inherent geographic advantages, rather than solely on the capabilities of its people or the leadership of its government. If Singapore were somehow relocated to a less strategically important location, like Sri Lanka, it would likely struggle to maintain its current economic success and status.
Conversely, if Sri Lanka were able to replicate Singapore's geographic advantages, for example by developing a major shipping canal or land bridge, it could potentially transform its economic fortunes in a similar way.
In essence, Singapore's remarkable prosperity is fundamentally rooted in its privileged geographic position as a global maritime hub, more so than any other intrinsic factors.shallow.
In fact, Singapore's strategic geographic maritime location is the **major natural asset** that has created trillions of dollars in revenue over the last century. Without this natural asset, Lee Kuan Yew would be unheard of like Sri Lankan Prime Minister and today's Singapore may not have been possible, and may have ended up in a dismal state like its mirror image, Sri Lanka.

      @fishloh97 หลายเดือนก่อน +50

@zemry-mh4sq Hi, I disagree. Reason being many countries possess abundant natural resources and strategic locations, but their success does not necessarily reflect their inherent advantages. One example of a country with a strategic maritime location that remains poor is Yemen.
Singapore's success is largely attributed to the vision and wisdom of Mr. Lee Kuan Yew. His unwavering integrity and genuine concern for the welfare of the people were cornerstones of his leadership. Mr. Lee dedicated his life to transforming Singapore from a small, struggling island into a thriving, first-class nation. His visionary leadership was evident in his ability to foresee the challenges and opportunities that lay ahead, guiding the nation with a steady hand. Mr. Lee was resolute and unyielding when it came to making difficult yet necessary decisions, often implementing bold policies that were essential for Singapore's growth. Despite the toughness required in his role, he never lost sight of the primary goal: the welfare and prosperity of the Singaporean people. His commitment to building a meritocratic society, fostering economic development, and ensuring social stability has left an enduring legacy.
There's much more to his story, so if you're interested, I encourage you to research and read about him. BTW the footage is about LKY who was Singapore's founding father, what has that got to do with Sri Lanka?

@fishloh97 It seems you're deliberately trying to present Singapore in an overly favorable, sanitized light while obscuring the realities about its citizens.
Now, you appear to be getting defensive and trying to soften your tone, even as you continue denying these realities. But I'm exposing you - I'm going to expose this hypocrisy and the ugly truth about Singapore tactics by ignoring and being selfish towards its own struggling citizens...You'd better be scared, because I won't hold back in revealing the truth to support Singapore innocent citizens. However Dubai and Qatar treatment of its citizens are in stark contrast to Singapore obscurity about its citizens welfare and treatment.

Actually, it was not simply a first class honours. Mr. Lee actually got a very rare double-starred-first-class honours degree and topped his cohort. Now consider the context: he was an Asian at Cambridge University in 1947. And what's probably more interesting is that Mr. Lee's future wife, Madam Kwa, joined his cohort one year late (i.e. missed the first year), and yet she still graduated the same time as him, and with first-class honours.

Foreign students in Oxbridge get "special treatment"....meaning they are monitored by the secret services (MI5)...if that means artificially inflating academic results, they'll do it.
On the other hand Pwince Charles had his exam results INFLATED....to compensate for the renown dumbosity of the Windsors.
The standing of Oxbridge universities has dropped primarily because of the woke disease damaging the west.....
This Chinese guy was hampered by resentment of the West....one of the richest men in Singapore just by chance of course..."no corruption"...So that's why the Vacuum man Dyson has up stakes to live there.
Like Ancient Rome Britain has been invaded by alien peoples with the sheer insanity of helping them to illegally enter the country....largely directed by jews who basically form the intelligentsia.
In short Britain's future is perilous....there will be upheaval in the country by the end of the century....Britain will collapse under the weight of inherent contradictions......just like China did centuries ago...
Like the Chinese guy suggested major drug criminals should be executed....but no one in Britain has the ability to do this.....yet....they will when they see there is no alternative.

Our founding father’s relationship with Western journalism was characterized by a fundamental clash of values and priorities. His criticisms and actions reflected his belief in the need for responsible, factual reporting that supported national development, as opposed to what he saw as the sensationalism and ideological biases of much of the Western press. He placed a high value on truth and factual reporting, asserting that misleading or sensational news could undermine public trust and social cohesion. He believed that the media should play a constructive role in society, supporting national development rather than sensationalizing issues for profit or ideological reasons.

Singapore is a good example of how to achieve success by forging its own path instead of blindly following Western ideology which as we can see has eroded their national identity and allowed social rot to set in.
LKY intrinsically understood right from the beginning that former colonial powers had no interests nor incentives to see their former colonies prosper and that the collective Western foreign media were merely extensions of their States to undermine the success of their former colonies.

Brilliant! Thank you for putting this together. I only wish the younger generations will understand the hard work and sacrifice that has brought us to this day. And continue to do so in the future after LKY!

For someone to speak so well in 1980s, it's amazing to see this chosen one turn a literal island into a country with the strongest passport in the WORLD.

This Western Journalist criticize him and his country for not thinking out of the box and here we are decades later the Western countries having too much of this thinking out of the boxes mentality. This is the reason there are so much angst today and why so many more people are in the mental health business or recipients of mental health services.

YT to me: Watch this! It was the best recommendation. I had to learn more about him, and Wikipedia described me LKY from the Westerners' point of view as an authoritarian leader and a benevolent dictator.
After listening to him, I am not surprised at all that the West decided to label him as they did. Seeing the true side of Western journalism at that time clearly shows his brilliant mind and his ability of critical thinking ahead of his time. What he understood than many fail to see even today. The comment section shows how important he was for Singapore, and after reading more about his achievements as a statement I understand more the sentiment of the people.
