LKY is the reason why we, Singaporeans, have a country we can be proud of. We were extremely lucky to have had him pave the way for our country's success!
@@Easyly1953 they've had their part to play too. Some really great and outstanding, some decent, and some okay. Not perfect but overall, we have a relatively competent successorship forming our modern day government compared to multiple nations. That said, LKY was the one who built that foundation/blueprint in the first place, and that's why he gets this much credit to our nation's success.
I am a Singaporean who's pushing 60. I had witnessed first hand, Singapore's progression from a 3rd world country to a 1st world nation under the leadership of Mr LKY. Mr LKY was a very much beloved leader who was admired and respected by the people. At his state funeral, millions turned up to pay their last respects, with hundreds of thousands queuing overnight for 8 to 10 hours to do so. We love this man because he truly cared for our welfare and was deeply burdened by our survival as a nation when Malaysia kicked us out of the Federation. I, and I believe the older generation will always be grateful to this man, and we will always hold him dear to our hearts. Thank you Mr Lee Kuan Yew ❤.

Conversely, if Sri Lanka were able to replicate Singapore's geographic advantages, for example by developing a major shipping canal or land bridge, it could potentially transform its economic fortunes in a similar way. In essence, Singapore's remarkable prosperity is fundamentally rooted in its privileged geographic position as a global maritime hub, more so than any other intrinsic factors.shallow. @zemry-mh4sq Hi, I disagree. Reason being many countries possess abundant natural resources and strategic locations, but their success does not necessarily reflect their inherent advantages. One example of a country with a strategic maritime location that remains poor is Yemen. Singapore's success is largely attributed to the vision and wisdom of Mr. Lee Kuan Yew. His unwavering integrity and genuine concern for the welfare of the people were cornerstones of his leadership. Mr. Lee dedicated his life to transforming Singapore from a small, struggling island into a thriving, first-class nation. His visionary leadership was evident in his ability to foresee the challenges and opportunities that lay ahead, guiding the nation with a steady hand. Mr. Lee was resolute and unyielding when it came to making difficult yet necessary decisions, often implementing bold policies that were essential for Singapore's growth. Despite the toughness required in his role, he never lost sight of the primary goal: the welfare and prosperity of the Singaporean people. His commitment to building a meritocratic society, fostering economic development, and ensuring social stability has left an enduring legacy. There's much more to his story, so if you're interested, I encourage you to research and read about him. BTW the footage is about LKY who was Singapore's founding father, what has that got to do with Sri Lanka?
From what I’m reading, he was just a rotten dictator who ruled for 52 years & brutally crushed and imprisoned all dissent and political opponents, all freedom of expression and any kind of activism or union activity, while destroying all the different cultures of that region to fit into his anal-retentive procrustean bed of artificial nationalism. At the same time he sold the country out to foreign corporations, making an elite extraordinarily rich, while subjecting many of his people to poverty.
@fishloh97 It seems you're deliberately trying to present Singapore in an overly favorable, sanitized light while obscuring the realities about its citizens. Now, you appear to be getting defensive and trying to soften your tone, even as you continue denying these realities. But I'm exposing you - I'm going to expose this hypocrisy and the ugly truth about Singapore tactics by ignoring and being selfish towards its own struggling citizens...You'd better be scared, because I won't hold back in revealing the truth to support Singapore innocent citizens. However Dubai and Qatar treatment of its citizens are in stark contrast to Singapore obscurity about its citizens welfare and treatment.
@JanineNgthegeek..Yeah and today the Truth being censored throughout the collective west where journalists being harrassed and lock up on trumped up charges!🧐
I am a British man living in Australia, and I have spent a lot of time working in Singapore. This man, is by far and away one of the greatest leaders in history.
As a Singaporean, I dare to say that Singapore is very blessed to have LKY paving the initial road for Singapore to such prosperous and vibrant city! Thank you Mr LKY, your legacy is always with us! 🙏
LKY was a Cambridge educated lawyer who graduated with first class honours. Very few, if any, Western journalists had the intellectual heft and superb command of English that LKY had.
Actually, it was not simply a first class honours. Mr. Lee actually got a very rare double-starred-first-class honours degree and topped his cohort. Now consider the context: he was an Asian at Cambridge University in 1947. And what's probably more interesting is that Mr. Lee's future wife, Madam Kwa, joined his cohort one year late (i.e. missed the first year), and yet she still graduated the same time as him, and with first-class honours.
Foreign students in Oxbridge get "special treatment"....meaning they are monitored by the secret services (MI5)...if that means artificially inflating academic results, they'll do it. On the other hand Pwince Charles had his exam results INFLATED....to compensate for the renown dumbosity of the Windsors. The standing of Oxbridge universities has dropped primarily because of the woke disease damaging the west..... This Chinese guy was hampered by resentment of the West....one of the richest men in Singapore just by chance of course..."no corruption"...So that's why the Vacuum man Dyson has up stakes to live there. Like Ancient Rome Britain has been invaded by alien peoples with the sheer insanity of helping them to illegally enter the country....largely directed by jews who basically form the intelligentsia. In short Britain's future is perilous....there will be upheaval in the country by the end of the century....Britain will collapse under the weight of inherent contradictions......just like China did centuries ago... Like the Chinese guy suggested major drug criminals should be executed....but no one in Britain has the ability to do this.....yet....they will when they see there is no alternative.
Mr Lee Kuan Yew - probably the greatest Prime Minister in modern times. I have huge respect for this man - and I witnessed in my lifetime, Singapore's transformation from Third to First World.

Lmfao. Singapore was already a busy port under the brits. Another noob brainwashed by propaganda. 🙄 He is not the first. He was the opposition that took over and became ruling government. He brought Singapore to new heights but definitely not "out of nothing".
This guy was decades ahead of the rest of the world, a once in a century, maybe millenia, type of leader. It's not even a freakin debate anymore. We are literally living his prediction of the decline of the western world right now. Singapore is incredibly lucky this man saved the Island.
That's what Richard Nixon wrote in memoirs that Lee Kian Yew was one or two politicians that appeared in a century. His grasp of political issues was wide and with depth. He was a big man on a small stage. The Malay minister in his cabinet said when he delivered his parliamentary speech in Malay at KL, he felt that Singapore will be kick out from Malaysia.
@@supremespanker the west is barely increasing in culture. America has a grip on all films produced and that is the only lead we have. Most of Europe is loosing its cultural ties and unique identity as it tries to Americanise itself, this does not sound like an increase in culture to me.
A simple rule for any country to do, if it is interested in doing what is best for itself, is to do the opposite of whatever the US orders it to do for the US is a mafia hellbent on destroying countries around the world for its own benefit!
I mean I don’t think the western world is declining. There is literally a lot of world conflict right now no one is really going anywhere. Keep in mind a lot of the media in the U.S. for example focuses on the negatives of everything while Asian media isn’t like that. It seems that US has so many issues because the media blows everything up out of proportion while negative news in a lot Asian countries goes unreported.
In retirement, he said about drug traffickers something like 'We had to hang, I think 3 or 4, before they realised we were serious.'. Drug trafficking to Singapore effectively stopped.
Growing up I did not understand the issues between Mr. Lee and western Media, and many of his policies and decisions much. Now I do, and do appreciate majority of them. Most importantly I learned that Western media really lies, and lies without shame! And it’s getting out of hand!
Lee’s made a good slip and counter with the “no advertisement” policy. Pure journalism does not need advertisements. If it’s good, I will definitely pay for accurate and important information. Again, the crucial point is that advertisement is not allow in pure journalism.
It’s d design. Most truly believe in their superiority and that they’ve saved d world. And that everyone owes them surrender. But that they’re being polite by letting u live.
Yes, it would definitely be great to have a leader like him, but it's not possible. The best thing we can do is listen to his message. We shouldn't let the West bully us into becoming like them in every aspect, nor should we crave validation from the West, as many of us do now. Instead, we should learn from them, taking only the good aspects like creativity and innovation, and leaving out the bad ones. We definitely shouldn't import all the 'woke' stuff here.
Lee Kuan Yew stood firm and refused to be bullied by the western media to run Singapore in westerners terms. Look at the state of UK and US politics now, shambles, to put it lightly. 😂
Viste man?
Gonna love Lee Kuan Yew, strong, intelligent, fearless, articulate, always makes the right decisions in favour of popular ones, almost a perfect leader. Every interview he takes he just exudes pure wisdom. Singaporeans and Chinese still benefit from some of his legacies today and for the many years to come.
Our founding father’s relationship with Western journalism was characterized by a fundamental clash of values and priorities. His criticisms and actions reflected his belief in the need for responsible, factual reporting that supported national development, as opposed to what he saw as the sensationalism and ideological biases of much of the Western press. He placed a high value on truth and factual reporting, asserting that misleading or sensational news could undermine public trust and social cohesion. He believed that the media should play a constructive role in society, supporting national development rather than sensationalizing issues for profit or ideological reasons.
@@impopquizEver think about writing a comment without disparaging Trump ......its boring , I dont vote or support him but the continual lies and hate about him is strengthening his base ...... and quite honestly after Saturday I'm glad !!!
His criticism of Western self-superiority is valid - a general rejection of anything that’s different from how the West does things, but without any attempt by the West to understand how Asia operates. America prides itself on freedom, with anything different couched as ‚oppression‘, but not seeing their own utter lack of control over their own administrations, economy and basic citizen welfare.

I made my son watch that interview to understand why it has to be capital punishment if caught smuggling drugs in Singapore. It was very insightful. The rewards are huge in trafficking drugs and many are willing to risk it. But we cannot continue to build prisons because it drains our tax money and most importantly, drugs destroys thousands of lives and families for several generations to come.
Singapore is a good example of how to achieve success by forging its own path instead of blindly following Western ideology which as we can see has eroded their national identity and allowed social rot to set in. LKY intrinsically understood right from the beginning that former colonial powers had no interests nor incentives to see their former colonies prosper and that the collective Western foreign media were merely extensions of their States to undermine the success of their former colonies. That was pretty evident from their government's covert actions in Africa, South America, Middle East and other parts of Asia.
@@melongoh1909also crucially, unlike many other trades like alcohol or cigarettes, drugs are linked to with far more insidious global criminal organisations. Given we are right in the middle of asia, Singapore is an especially lucrative target for organised crime in general. Putting a very clear stop to it early before its roots develop and become extremely painful to extract was no doubt an ingenious insight our government had taken into account when cracking down on the subject.
@@melongoh1909Good on you for letting your son understand these issues. What LKY said about crime becoming rampant to the extent that new prisons would have to be build with tax income, this situation had developed in the US to the point where prison are now privately operated and the music industry is advertising for them by promoting violence and degenerate behaviour in the young.
@@cultureofmen I don’t know how true but I watched many youtube videos about homelessness and drugs in US is that even though the police nab drug traffickers, they are being released soon after because the prisons are full and there’s not enough tax money to detain, house and feed them.

Admirable! The way he was so patiently waited for them to finish their sentence even though he knew what they were going to say, and calmly patiently responded to them was incredible. Each time you just can see who's the intellectual in the interviews. He was so willing to sit down and talk with western media, which is very rare nowadays. Not many are willing to waste their time to sit down like this anymore, and rightly so.
In recent years the western media has completely abandoned all pretense of intelligence and devolved to spoonfeed the masses mere controversies and blatant one sided views depending on what they want to hear. I doubt even a great man like LKY can tolerate to be on their shows anymore, when the interviewers aren’t even at least self-aware of their own toxicity.

@thetreekeeper143 The notion that "Singapore has no natural resources except its people" is blatantly lie and shallow. In fact, Singapore's strategic geographic maritime location is the **major natural asset** that has created trillions of dollars in revenue over the last century. Jokowi has brought a lot of improvements in Indonesia, just too bad he has only 10 years and many people still complain about him. Maybe Indonesia deserves a bad leader like Suharto.
Its not possible, because LKY's views values contraditcs with most of Indonesians believe today, ever since the fall of Soeharto in 1998, Indonesian transition into a democracy with elections every 5 years, and majority of Indonesians tend to demonize any form of iron fist governence, ask any Indonesian today many would dismiss Singapore or China's success citing that they should learn from democracies instead of authoroterian countries, its just never gonna work cause our society has a different mindset with Singapore's and China's
No I am Indonesian, I am speaking this based on my experience interacting with intellectuals who were radically pro democracy in campuses, I asked them about Singapore/China's model of development most of them responded to me "Soeharto's era has proven authoroterianism is bad for our country and if we follow Singapore/China model it will bring us back to the era of oppression, the only reason why a lot of young people idealise it because they didnt experience the new order era" and this trauma resulted from Soeharto era is the reason why a lot of intellectuals here are radically pro democracy, if you watch LKY's interviews and speeches, most of the things he says would offend an average Indonesia who is radically loyal to the values of the 1998 reformation.
To all our doubters & jealous neighbours, it’s not just LKY & his Cabinet’s brilliance, but also their values & principles by which they lived & worked, & which they passed down to us. This is the reason there are so much angst today and why so many more people are in the mental health business or recipients of mental health services.

I had to learn more about him, and Wikipedia described me LKY from the Westerners' point of view as an authoritarian leader and a benevolent dictator. Seeing the true side of Western journalism at that time clearly shows his brilliant mind and his ability of critical thinking ahead of his time. What he understood than many fail to see even today.

Now consider the context: he was an Asian at Cambridge University in 1947. And what's probably more interesting is that Mr. Lee's future wife, Madam Kwa, joined his cohort one year late (i.e. missed the first year), and yet she still graduated the same time as him, and with first-class honours.

Our founding father’s relationship with Western journalism was characterized by a fundamental clash of values and priorities. Hats off. His position on drug trafficking is revolutionary

The notion that "Singapore has no natural resources except its people" is blatantly lie and shallow.
In fact, Singapore's strategic geographic maritime location is the **major natural asset** that has created trillions of dollars in revenue over the last century. Without this natural asset, Lee Kuan Yew would be unheard of like Sri Lankan Prime Minister and today's Singapore may not have been possible, and may have ended up in a dismal state like its mirror image, Sri Lanka.

Intelligent, educated, eloquent, and steadfast, plus he backs up his policies with firm reasoning and doesn’t buckle under foreign journalists. The fact that Singapore is what it is today is proof that he was a genius.
I'm damn jealous of Singapore because it had Lee Kuan Yew that we never had. Look at the lawlessness we have on our streets in major cities like NY, Chicago, LA.

My children benefited very much from the 4 years of education they received in Singapore. My husband's job transferred him back to Malaysia and my family and I, sadly, had to return with him.
It's amazing how LKY words are even more relevant today! Seeing what's going on in parts of Africa, South America & Europe confirms the Wisdom of this Awesome leader! May his soul rest in peace!
"“Even from my sickbed, even if you are going to lower me into the grave and I feel that something is going wrong, I will get up. "
Even what is going on in America. We got a lying press that was hiding our Presidents senility while cheering on the drug take over of our cities.
LKY was about the development of his country not about himself and his family. Through his deeds he motivated his countrymen to be patriotic. He never suffered from entitlement syndrome.

Not many are willing to waste their time to sit down like this anymore, and rightly so.
In recent years the western media has completely abandoned all pretense of intelligence and devolved to spoonfeed the masses mere controversies and blatant one sided views depending on what they want to hear.

Singapore is so fortunate and proud to have him at the realm!
He was such a wise man of apparent integrity & honest. The press & media needs to be called out more than ever today.
He’s just too fiercely intelligent.
Amazing man and leader ! Wish we had an LKY as prime minister of Australia!
Australia will not allow chinese to be PM.
Oh, please. It's just a sincere compliment to all Singaporeans. If you are not a Singaporean, then please just allow them to accept it graciously.
@@yirenvivianwang7978at least here in America, have a Singaporean CEO for a top 5 tech company Tiktok
@@yirenvivianwang7978 I’m not talking about his ethnicity…. I’m talking about the type of man he was !
Highly intelligent, loved his people, did what was best for his country and lived by example.
@@zacharycohen9985 TikTok is a Singapore company owned by ByteDance, not an American company. Having a Singaporean as CEO has nothing to do with America.
Mr lee told china in the mid 70s.. open up your market to capitalism but keep close watch on it.
What a genius of a man and a leader.. ❤
Be very careful when you are citing him, now. He phrase himself really carefully because that part of his legal training.
@@nanokert9191 agreed but something like that lol
From what I’m reading, he was just a rotten dictator who ruled for 52 years & brutally crushed and imprisoned all dissent and political opponents, all freedom of expression and any kind of activism or union activity, while destroying all the different cultures of that region to fit into his anal-retentive procrustean bed of artificial nationalism.
At the same time he sold the country out to foreign corporations, making an elite extraordinarily rich, while subjecting many of his people to poverty.
Yes ! China takes inspiration from him, it's incredible while kept receiving a huge amount of hate from the West
Brilliant! Thank you for putting this together. I only wish the younger generations will understand the hard work and sacrifice that has brought us to this day. And continue to do so in the future after LKY!
this is a man of integrity, honesty, truth and strength, from the very first day he headed Singapore to whatever decision he had made has never been for the the welfare of for the citizens of Singapore, if only we have more leaders Like him Asia , Asia would have been more powerful instead of being manipulated by the western world. he deserved better recognition as one of the best leaders of them world.
For someone to speak so well in 1980s, it's amazing to see this chosen one turn a literal island into a country with the strongest passport in the WORLD.
I am reading his book From Third World To First. Love to read about the Singapore story from the lion himself. Lots of respect and love from India 🇮🇳
i was just thinking of reading his book. I'm from india as well. was wondering you engage in any socialmedia groups regarding international especially asian politics and economics, which you think are great. if so, pls do share them with me as well
This Western Journalist criticize him and his country for not thinking out of the box and here we are decades later the Western countries having too much of this thinking out of the boxes mentality. This is the reason there are so much angst today and why so many more people are in the mental health business or recipients of mental health services.
YT to me: Watch this! It was the best recommendation. I had to learn more about him, and Wikipedia described me LKY from the Westerners' point of view as an authoritarian leader and a benevolent dictator.
After listening to him, I am not surprised at all that the West decided to label him as they did. Seeing the true side of Western journalism at that time clearly shows his brilliant mind and his ability of critical thinking ahead of his time. What he understood than many fail to see even today. The comment section shows how important he was for Singapore, and after reading more about his achievements as a statement I understand more the sentiment of the people.
