Oh wow😮😮! The old wood is beautiful, the color and everything is amazing, and they look perfect in the cottage👍👍. Overall, it is a really interesting and warm vlog. Of course, Damo is a superhero as always💪🦸, and in the end, daddy and Hugo and family time is lovely and full of happiness.😻💘🤩
Suggestion: your upper shelves should be stained on the underside because it's visible looking up at them. Keep up the good work. I enjoy watching you both.
Another well constructed and thoughtful vlog Damo and Ryan. So much to enjoy about your new build and the purpose which it is going to be put to. Shame about the paint problem but you do seem to have found a solution. Love the natural wood desk and the floor tiles complement the colour of it. Loved the bit at the end with Hugo playing in the water and mud, this is what most children in the west miss due to their phobia of anything dirty! Plus of course the internet and TV!!! Children miss so much if they aren't allowed to play creatively regardless of mess. Great to see all the children enjoying a meal together. Glad the builder's hand hasn't delayed things too much and pray that it will be completely healed in due course. God bless you all and give you strength to withstand the pressures of the build and the rain. 😀❤🙏
Look into "french drains " to move that water out faster. A good trench about 1/4 meter deep only could flush out that standing water and have a nice aesthetic look to it. Congrats on the build it looks good
Hi Ryan & Damo In the municipality where I live in Quebec (Canada), we have 3 bins: Compost bin picked-up weekly, recycling bin picked-up every 2 weeks and garbage every month. Garbage pick-up here is provided by our municipality and is incled in the municipal taxes we pay as property owners. It's been this way for about 3 years. It was hard at first because we (I) had the lazy habit of putting everything in the garbage. Now, my garbage bin is about half full at the end of the month and it used to overflow when the pick-up was once a week. Also, the municipality offers us free compost once a year. Therefore, I am now sold on this way of managing waste and my garden looks great. Last year, I visited Japan (from Tokyo to the south) and Thailand (Bangkok, Chiang May, Chiang Rai and Pattaya). The year before, I visited Vietnam, north to south. The Phillipines the year before that. There is a very very big problem with garbage and especialy plastic bags in Asia (Except Japan which do like us and they even seperate their garbage even more ). We banned plastic bags here about 5 years agao. Again, it was hard to change (people were mad, so was I). But now, we all carry or have have reusable bags in our vehicules....and the change in cleanliness in the streets and in nature (especialy the waterways) is very noticable. Keep up making great videos ! Cheers to you and all the gang !
Yes the metal will have a protective grease or oil to prevent rust during storage and transportation. A degreaser will be needed to prepare the metal for painting. A primer coat then paint is best. It’s all a learning curve.
Great episode guys. See that Hugo and Papa like to make funny faces together! ฮิวโก้และพ่อชอบทำหน้าตลกด้วยกัน. Damo loves her Silkies, beautiful birds they are. Papa loves his dog Alfie. I remember the song well from back in '66....When you walk let your heart lead the way. And you'll find love any day Alfie, Alfie. Happy to see the progress, and that Uncle/contractor didn't break his finger. Had not heard about the 200 truckloads of mountain soil you prepared the land with. Good on ya Ryan. Onward ho, the Earth-ship is close to being finished - Hurray. Thanks again guys. Peace and Love Y'all
Tiling in Thailand. Our experience is they just use regular cement and sand and the tiles lift. You need to buy proper tile cement; there are some cheap brands that are cement based but they also use marble sand (or superfine sand) and other ingredients such as polymer/cellulose that makes it more sticky/suction. Basically its a formula specific for tiling. Building is now quite advance in Thailand and you can get all the right materials like in the west, unlike many years ago when it was just the basics like sand, cement, block.
3 bins in England where I live recyclables ,general waste and garden waste . genera waste or recyclables collected every week . Garden waste every week in growing season . Seems a reasonable service to me but then I don't complain about everything .
Great job . That metal in future use a wax and grease remover before paint . Enamel undercoat then a top coat of colour . I paint machines and that is my process .
Hey Ryan and Damo and Otis and baby Hugo, great video guys. I enjoyed watching the guys put your desk together. I like the raw edges. The mystery room is looking good. The shelves have come out good. I like that you painted everything white. That way, you can add color with your accessories that you fill it up with.
it all looks really great the build is all coming together, the wood looks amazing, the builders have done a great job ,glad to here the builders hand is not broken although very painful losing a finger nail . Always interesting and entertaining
Ryan, I wish I was there to lend my expertise in the new build ( notice I didn’t volunteer my labor). I do have a lifetime of experience in the construction trades even though that wasn’t my professional vocation. I worked in commercial construction while attending University. There is nothing more satisfying than completed project that you have contributed too. Whenever you paint metal that hasn’t been prepared for paint, you must “etch” it first. You can buy commercially made solutions or use vinegar and water to etch metal. I’m not sure what strain of wood you are using as your desktop, but it looks like Laotian teak. Termites usually will not infest redwood, Laotian teak or yellow cedar because they produce chemicals, naturally, that are toxic to wood boring pests. However, there is nothing wrong with using caution. By the way, that is a beautiful piece of wood. I look forward to seeing the finished build, and to the start of a new project. Cheers to another day in paradise✌🏼 Your Friend, Todd
Loving it all!.. coming together nicely.. so many cool things about this video.. especially your new best friend Ryan.. don't they just melt your heart!🐾💜 the boys are getting taller every time I watch another vlog.. such a healthy and happy lifestyle for them to flourish in.. love to you all.. 🧡🦋🥀☮️
Paint need a clean surface to adhere to the metal. As you said it needs to be free from dirt and grease. Paint also needs a surface profile which is basically something for it to grip onto or a rough surface. Otherwise it will de laminate. I think that was your issue.
Almost all steel goes threw forming machines in manufacturing, oil is needed in that processes. Always clean and wash new steel, a trick used by fabricators is to de grease then wash and let flash rust, then lightly sand. Makes the paint able to adhere to the metal.
We have bins that are for items that cant be recycled, one day i was at my mothers she's almost 90 and she had some plant cuttings and I said to her to throw it in the green bin she's said to me you cant do that and I told her its a dam site more environmentally friendly than the rest of the stuff in it
Great vlog guys Hugo playing away happily in the puddle I really like the rustic furniture the colour is perfect wishing the builder well soon’ guys have you thought about giving the cottage/ premises a name yet thank you for sharing a little bit of your world
My bin is now smaller and only emptied once a fortnight, the only thing gets lifted weekly is the recycling 😡 I’m house training our new puppy at the minute she’s 12 weeks old we’re finding it hard training her to go outside to pee and have realised now today the poor wee thing has fleas so we have just started the treatment for that lol
You’re only a little over budget ! I thought I would do the right thing and only use recycled materials, so I took apart four old teak houses, and built one new old teak farmhouse. I’m only 100% over budget. As to the silkie hen, I have 12 of them, and believe me, that hen of yours is the best incubator you will ever find.
I believe that working with good people matters because then the work environment is good. If there is a sense of respect and belief among the people you work with, that is when the good work is done. You and Damo are so helpful by the worker that is injured but he doesn't want to take a break for his painful injuries when you inform him. His still trusted that no matter how many times he gets, it's still positive for him to do to the last as for the manpower.
Will you be forming some swails to deal with the water? You may have filled but that much water just ponding isn't great. Yeah, adhesion of material. You really want to stay on top of surface prep. Peeling paint...oily surface and no/wrong primer. Lifting tiles....poor bedding, dusty substrate, no sealer, wrong adhesive, unstable sustrate. Wait for the wall and ceiling painting...rub your hand on the wall just before painting and behold the dust. It clearly states on the paint tin in Thai to wash all the dust off. The part about using the manufacturer's sealer is ignored. Nobody reads instructions in SEA. Painting is easy, preparation is optional. Your build is small. You haven't had too many hiccups. It's the little things that matter most. Good luck. It's looking nice
Surely all oil should be taken off of any surface before painting?, 🤔.... 2.5k a year for Council tax but at least get me bins done every Friday 👍.. Bargain 5555
You pay a good price for collection of rubbish . We have lived in rural Spain for 19 yrs and pay 17:50 euros half yearly and get rubbish picked up every day . .We love coming to Thailand in Aug as Spain is so hot 40oc plus. Thailand is coolerand cheaper than visiting europe where beaches are just over crowed.
It's been a long time since I saw a video from you, but now you are back on track, as soon as there is no video from you, you think something has happened to you, but thank you, you seem to be doing well.
Your build is coming along beautifully guys! We hope Damo’s uncle’s finger heals fast . I could just imagine being there smelling the fresh countryside air; especially, the day after the rain…..Baby Hugo is looking more adorable & the Otis & his cousins sure are growing up fast! I would put a good coat of primer on the metal frames before the final coat of (enamel) paint. 😉
Ron the retired builder here.
Facinating. 😉
Love the custom wood furniture!
Thanks John 🙏🙏
That natural wood is beautiful
I love the style you guys build with, it’s super simple but classy especially with the wooden features. Love to replicate it here in NZ !

Demo is soooosweet ! Please treat her with love ,kindness and respect!
i have been so busy it so nice to see you all again God Bless You All!!!
Love watching your video's and seeing life in rural Thailand and watching your family grow and develope❤

Build is looking good. Yes, nice to see real wood being used. Cost is prohibitive in the western world. Family is looking good, excellent. 👍❤️😇
Lovely video every thing looks so beautiful God bless you 🙏 all always ❤️ 🙏
Thank you 🙏❤️
Buityfull little dog. You best mate 🎉
Really enjjoy your vlogs but the music aargh😮 just natural sounds fine😅
Those desks are amazing. Just thinking out loud, I wonder if the oil on the metal is a kind of "anti rust" coating.
Yes I think they coat it with something. To prevent rust as you say 👍🙏
Buityfull life 🙏
Coming along nicely
Stay eternal, brother.
Amazing family😊
Let's do a fundraiser! ALL IN!
Excellent video. Hugo otis growing up now. Think time for little girl😂😂😂
Kids immune systems are so much stronger when left to play outside.

You will see next week why this building is very important 👍
@@lifeinruralthailand guess the tax situation made this take a lower level of attention
What’s the bad news then ?
builder injury
@@lifeinruralthailand no such thing as health and safety in Thailand, hope he’s ok though.
