    I'm a runner and I've had my FR 230 for over a year, I love it. I have purchased the HRM chest strap and find it quite accurate. I find the watch to be ideal for anyone who isn't a professional athlete but enjoys the data available on a fitness tracking item.

    Guys I bought a garmin forerunner 230 and frankly it was a good watch but for $250 I was underwhelmed. If you want only distance and not heart rate go to Tomtom. They have the same watch, maybe even better quality for only $130 and $190 with heart rate. So in my opinion that's what I would have done but it's up to you.

    • @caliinthevalley24681
      @caliinthevalley24681 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I totally agree with this. I bought it and was extremely underwhelmed and the $250 price tag did not make me happy. I think what really bothered me was how cheap it felt. The plasticy maaterials made it feel like some toy you get out of the claw machine as a kid. Yes it's light but its also not very durable and scratched very easily.

      Jack Flynn Quality for the Tomtom Clock It's not as You said because last time I ran in half a marathon and tomtom clock show me that I ran 17 kilometers in distance It's not good
      just a good in heart rate

      +Cole Trautman Thanks for the kind words and for watching! I saw that was the general trend for this watch and it was being overshadowed by the FR235, so I figured it deserved a video all to its own. Side note - SO happy the weather is warming up! More time on the bike, right?

    What is the range of the watch to phone? I want a dedicated running watch, but a few notifications is cool when I can't grab my phone. I like to run without my phone, by the time I get outside will the watch be out of range and no longer pull notifications giving me a uninterrupted run? Also how soon will it sync my run once I return and is it automatically?

    Thank you for the great review. If you choose "other" in the exercises for weight lifting, will there be a screen with a timer that also shows the heart rate. I want to time rest intervals and see heart rate at same time.

    • @TrueReview16
      @TrueReview16  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +hanbys With any style of exercise, you can set up the fields however you like. So if you want a screen to show a timer on the top half and heart rate on the bottom half, that is something you can do. The timer could help you count down your rest intervals. There is no "countdown" field available that you can apply, but the timer field should hopefully fit your needs!

    Good review. Getting mine next week so this was useful.
    One question - can the attached power lead be plugged into a standard USB plug to charge or does it have to be plugged into a laptop to charge the watch.
    I had read it only charges via a laptop. Thanks.

      +Amjid Khan I don't have the watch anymore but I have the bigger brother, the FR735XT. That watch can be charged from either source. The only thing is that it only shows the charging screen when connected to a computer.

    hi thanks for your vid. it's great! but just wanna check with you, do you have any issue with connecting to HR strap? GPS? Battery? I really would like to get one of this but I read some of the bad reviews and i'm really concerned! thanks!!

    • @TrueReview16
      @TrueReview16  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Michelle Choong Thank you! I have not had any problems connecting anything to the watch. The heart rate monitor is something you pair once and then forget about, since the watch will look for it by itself next time you begin a workout. GPS is also easy to pair and happens automatically when selecting a workout that can use GPS (running, biking). Depending on where you are (in a forest or in a field) and when the last time you connected to GPS was, it may take a little bit of time, but I've never had to wait more than a minute I think. And of course, battery life is great! You'll see bad reviews for any watch since each has its strengths and weaknesses. It's just important that you're OK with them going in :D

    very good review, i just got the forerunner 225. But it has no cycling features. will the 230 be a better choice if you do both running and cycling?

    • @TrueReview16
      @TrueReview16  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Norsman1979 Depending on what you are hoping to get out of cycling tracking, this may or may not be a great watch. If you just want to keep track of things like heart rate, speed, or cadence then this watch will serve you well. Keep in mind though that all three of these require an ANT+ compatible sensor (Garmin manufactures them). If you also want live GPS, you should look into other products like a dedicated cycling computer or maybe even your phone. If you go all the way and get a power meter, you would need a higher end device as well. But I think that if you don't need all the bells and whistles and want to be able to track basic stats for running and cycling, this watch should be fine.

    • @Norsman1979
      @Norsman1979 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +True Review16 thank you. i just want a watch where i can keep all my training in one place, so i think that it would be a better choice then the 225. also the wrist based heart rate did not work as well as the cheststrap.

    • @TrueReview16
      @TrueReview16  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Norsman1979 The FR230 should be perfect for that. While wrist based heart rate monitoring is convenient, it's much harder to maintain a consistent connection and in general it's a little less accurate. I think you'll be satisfied with the watch, and if heart rate monitoring is something you're interested in, pick up a strap and use it when appropriate. Good luck and thanks for watching! :D

    Do you know whether the 630 is compatible with Windows Phone 10? (Microsoft Lumia 950)

    • @TrueReview16
      @TrueReview16  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Hugues de Payns I think it is! I believe recently Garmin published the Connect app for Windows 10 Mobile, so if you can download that, I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work.

    Hi. Tell me, can I set my favourite activities MTB, Cycling, Hiking, Swimming, Soccer or Gym in this watch (in watch or Garmin site)? I run quite rarely. I now that this watch is first of all for runners but it's price and long battery life and small size make the FR 230 is for me accesible than large and expensive Fenix 3. It's for me important information.

    • @TrueReview16
      @TrueReview16  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +lechu3p Hi! The watch comes with four exercise profiles: Indoor run, outdoor run, outdoor bicycle, and other. You can't add new ones or change the names of the default ones. On Garmin's website, Garmin Connect, you can change the title of the activity, but it will still be categorized based on how you originally recorded the activity. Something like soccer could maybe be counted as outdoor run, but swimming and gym workouts would go under "other". If you want to be able to create your own exercise profiles, you could look into the FR630. It is a little more expensive than the FR230, but cheaper than the Fenix 3. Let me know if you have any other questions!

    Do I need to buy the strap or does the watch has HRM on its own? Do not understand completely that. Does it work both ways and only need to wear the strap for running?

    • @TrueReview16
      @TrueReview16  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      So both of the devices are compatible with Garmin's chest straps (which are many times more accurate than wrist HR tracking) but if you prefer wrist tracking for ease of use you need the FR235 since the FR230 does not have an HR sensor equipped.

    So is the only issue with this watch the display? Still not sure whether to buy the 230 or 235. I still think HRM is pointless unless you are a professional runner.

    • @TrueReview16
      @TrueReview16  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +KM I have had no problems with the GPS! It performs fairly accurately. There is some clipping that can occur when between tall buildings or tress (usual Garmin stuff) that interrupts the satellite signal, but other than that it works well. And if you plan on using this as a running watch, you can't go wrong with it. The display has been a problem for some people, but I never found it to be THAT bad. Other than that, battery life is great, tracking is great, customization is great. I recommend it!

    Does your phone have to be with you in order to receive a notification for a text?

    • @TrueReview16
      @TrueReview16  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Joseph Mikhail Unfortunately yes. Most watches that can operate independently from the phone need to be connected to either the same WiFi or cellular network and are dedicated smartwatches like the LG Watch Urbane 2 LTE. The FR230 can connect to WiFi, but not in the sense that allows you to receive notifications without a phone nearby. The WiFi connection is just for data transfer.

    • @josephmikhail9329
      @josephmikhail9329 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +True Review16 how close would the phone have to be? If I'm in a class and my phone is in my locker a couple hundred feet away (both devices on same network) should I be able to receive messages?

    • @TrueReview16
      @TrueReview16  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Joseph Mikhail I can't say how it will perform on WiFi with that distance, but on a pure Bluetooth connection you should except the connection to break around 30 feet.
