as someone who dealt with the bally sports app signing you out every week and constantly crashing, this is a long time coming. still hope to see chip and the rest of the broadcast crew back for 2025
I will be so glad if they get rid of the blackout restrictions. I live in Oklahoma and the only time I ever get to watch the Cardinals is when it’s a nationally televised game.
Also Oklahoma and had to pay for the sports package to get Bally Midwest on direct tv for cardinals games despite their website saying cardinals games would be available on the standard package for my zip code. It’s kinda horse shit.
No blackouts is long overdue. I'm in Nevada and lose games against AZ and the Bay Area teams even though I don't get credit from the MLB service for missed series when the Cards play them.
That's one of the reasons I am so disgusted with that organization-they make it hard to be a fan. Guess I will live life instead of worrying about an idiot team.
I hope the Cardinals get to offer direct-to-consumer streaming next year. I’d subscribe! I’m in Oklahoma, 420 miles from Busch Stadium, and I can never watch the Cardinals. Or the Royals, Astros or Rangers. But I don’t want to watch those three teams. I want to watch the Cardinals. But because Oklahoma touches a small part of Southwest Missouri, I’m blacked-out from everything. Even when MLB-TV offers their rare “everything is free” promotions….. I can’t watch the Cardinals. Baseball does a great job of alienating its fans, or,should I say, a terrible job of cultivating new and existing fans who can’t watch their favorite teams because of these ridiculous blackout rules.
I think a lot of people forget that we get Spotify, TH-cam, Netflix for 10/15 bucks a month because these companies have hundreds of millions of subscribers and can afford to offer at a reasonably cheap price. I think the Cardinals are going to have to charge anywhere from $35 upwards as its a "small market" like you said, its "niche". Im paying around $180 a month for MLB tv over here in the UK but would gladly pay the going rate to watch the Cardinals 140+ times a year and if the money goes solely to the Cardinals. Also, the direct to consuner model could be balanced out by advertisers and commercials and maybe even some gambling money if the law passes in November.
Note: The original report from the athletic has been corrected, but I'll explain in a future video why I don't think that will necessarily impact things a ton If Bally says the teams have to negotiate, my stance is the Cardinals should tell them no thanks.
Getting this issue fixed and having a great distribution set up is far more important than whether we trade Sonny Gray or not. St Louis has to have revenue from broadcasting games. I'd be glad to pay for the streaming product as long as its somewhat reasonable. I live in Memphis, Cardinal territory and home of the AAA franchise. We went an extended period of time without Cardinal baseball because Comcast and Bally couldn't come to terms. You have to get the product to the consumer. Lets hope we have a positive resolution to the TV situation both for the franchise and the fans.
I live around Des Moines Iowa from 2008-2011 and that whole area is loaded with die hard Cardinals fans that watch the games every night, back then Fox Sports Midwest carried the games on cable and it's price was decent
It depends on how much extra I have to pay. If it means I can finally cancel my cable package then I'll better off financially paying for this new streaming service then paying for cable. The only reason I currently have Fubo for the cable channels is to be able to watch Cardinals, Blues and WWE Raw. WWE Raw is going to Netflix in January so that will be one less obstacle in being able to cancel Fubo.
@@bschaeffer12 yeah I mean if you have direct just to watch the cardinals and they put out a streaming service for $25 a month or whatever per season like the NFL I would think that might be cheaper
I have news for you! They will still lock you out of the games they don't produce themselves because they won't have rights to them. It'll be just like back when Channel 11 or Channel 5 would have games on Sunday -- totally different entity responsible producing those games.
The White Sox, Bulls, and Blackhawks are doing their own network. They’re airing games over antenna too. I’d like to see that as an option in addition to streaming direct to consumer as well as Spectrum/DirecTV/TH-cam. Give people as many options as possible.

Mo and DeWitt, I’ll subscribe to this app in the future as soon as the major league payroll increases by whatever amount you’re about to slash it. Who’s with me? Money isn’t everything but it does show that an ownership is REALLY committed to winning.
$50 a month to watch the Cardinals??? More like $50 per year at most. I know you’re just speculating, but wow would that be a great way to drive more fans away.
I could be TOTALLY wrong. I did say 40 to 50. 30 could be a sweet spot. But realize, as I explained. It's not 12 months. It's 7. People are currently paying $100 for cable just to have the Cardinals. If it ends up being more than a Netflix thing by a decent margin, you heard it here first why that might actually make sense.
It's only $150/season for MLB TV for access to all teams outside of blackouts. By comparison, it's $125/season for the Utah Jazz and $70/season for the Utah Hockey Club. Granted, the hockey team is new to Utah, so it's probably discounted somewhat. I'd love to have access to the Cardinals without getting blacked out when they play Colorado and Arizona (and probably the A's when they get to Vegas), but not if it's more than MLB TV.
We switched from one cable provider to Spectrum back in November, and I said upfront, I NEED to be able to watch Cardinals baseball. Long story, but it was a huge hassle to get Bally added. I know there are a lot of people excited about this and I am interested in how it all plays out. Although I do hope they take into consideration the older generation that isn't as tech savvy and more used to traditional ways to watch versus streaming. My Dad will struggle if its too complicated. The idea of being able to watch every Spring Training game is exciting!
Exactly! I’ve been saying the same thing! It’s crazy to me. Most fans are just like, “Take my $500, just make every game available.” That’s all we’re asking for. I can’t believe baseball still hasn’t figured that out. Hockey is no better. For years, the NFL had the opposite problem-mobile-friendly but not TV-friendly-and they finally fixed it. I’d gladly pay $300, especially when it costs $60-$80 just to go out, order food, and watch the game. In the long run, it actually saves money. FYI - I was just trying to prove a point with the $500
Even though the organization is kind of setting us up for a year where we might not really want to be watching the product on the field. Personally I still am going to be adamant about trying to watch every game so they better just figure this out by March.
@@bschaeffer12 well then the only other thing I'm worried about is ability to watch these games on my TV like either on my PS five or an app on my smart TV. I don't want to watch every game on my computer or phone but imagine that is not gonna be an issue

Hopefully this is the beginning of the end of the blackout restrictions. I have the subscription to MLB TV, which allows access to any TV and radio feed of any team in any regular season game plus archives. Blackout restrictions -- for the TV side only -- are enforced by billing zip code. Since I am not a resident of the extended St. Louis media market (and no longer a satellite or cable customer), MLB TV is my access to the Cardinals on television. Since my zip code is in Texas, the Astros and Rangers games are blacked out on the TV side, so those six games plus ESPN Sunday Night Baseball appearances are the Cardinals' games I can't see live. This development just reminds us that we are now in more of a streaming world and it's time to phase out the blackout restrictions.
As someone who lives in the Atlanta area (grew up in the St. Louis area), it would be nice to get all of the cardinals games, if it does indeed go that way. Would there be pre- and post- game shows like that did before (and never show on MLB Extra Innings)?

Why can't the cardinals and the Royals or blues create their own Network, why should we have to pay for an app to watch cardinal games? That's ridiculous
