Scripps is a new word to me so I know nothing. Those 2 cities, I wonder, are they in because they don’t need to care about restrictions? As opposed to smaller markets.
People here in Minnesota were complaining the owners cut the payroll by $30 million last year. Now we know why. The owners, the Pohlad family, aren't billionaires by throwing money away. Good breakdown of where the revenue comes from.
The Pohlad family are billionaires because Carl foreclosed on farm loans and kept the land himself. Additionally the Pohlad's are the wealthiest owners in MLB.
This makes it easier to walk away from MLB after they facilitated the heist of my A’s. The whole thing stinks. Luckily I have my memories of great A’s teams and the years MLB was not the monster it is today.
I would hope that as long as John Fisher is the owner of the A's, they would not be eligible for revenue sharing from this point on until they return to Oakland
I'm in the Boston market. John Henry, famously of criminal mind and now frugality much in the same vein as John Fisher, wants us to pay upwards of $330 per year for NESN, our local RSN. Needless to say I'm not doing that and finding 'alternative' ways to watch the Red Sox. We're at a break point in this conversation because not only am I getting turned off by ticket prices and TV prices, I'm also very bummed out with the incessant advertising that is EVERYWHERE. And sure...ads on the mound aren't getting in the way of the game and for as much as I hate them, neither are the ads on the helmets or sleeves (and I *do* hate them). We're now experiencing green screen problems with ads behind home plate and camera angles that are affecting the video feed of both the pitcher AND batter. So what do we do as fans? I'm tired of fighting it. I'm tired of paying a TON of money to enjoy something that used to be pretty damn accessible. For me, I'm happy to just turn the dial to something that won't disappoint or get back to doing my 'trade' (being a musician). It's quite seriously just not worth it anymore. All this video is telling me is that shit is about to get even more expensive. We've talked a ton about attendance at postseason games. Great. People are showing up. But are we seeing sellouts all the time? Can families afford to go to regular season games, let alone postseason games? We've been priced out. Baseball is for the beautiful people with boat loads of extra cash. Again, I'm exhausted. The business of the game won. The only way I can see them finally taking a "L" is when they start to feel the pressure of "regular" people not showing up in droves like we used to. That won't be for some time, though. There's just no point. This diatribe is also coming off of a loss last night by our Dodgers that made them look silly and lifeless, just about ready for yet another early exit and entry into a long off-season of mixed drinks and golf. Fucking baseball...
@@JB-sb5ph Fair, however, I used to love to go to Pawtucket for PawSox games. Then they moved to Worcester, raised ticket prices, AND are now owned (like many minor league clubs) by a private equity firm. What the hell am I supposed to do with that? There are never enough marbles in the piles of those people and they are going to continue to nickle and dime us together. I want my "Bull Durham" minor league baseball experience back but it's in the wind forever, along with my joy of the game. I'd rather sit at home, play guitar, and complain in the comments section lol
I feel you on this one. It got even worse this year in Toronto when the Jays found a girl to patrol the new "fan-friendly" seats, concession areas, and blatantly shill whatever was going on that night to try and get fans to the ballpark and spend money. I want to watch the game. I don't care what fans are putting on their Schneider's Loonie Dogs in the fourth inning as they sit in the brand-new fan-friendly seating zone right above the elevated bullpen so you can see the pitchers warm up. And did you get the latest George Springer powder blue hockey jersey? She's not going to lie...this one's coming home with her! I get the need for sponsorship and I'm willing to tolerate it to a point, but not when it interferes with my ability to watch the game.
@@estried86 did you read my comment at all?? The literal point is ESPN will not drop mlb. They literally just did a deal with the nhl which is the lowest of the viewership and money of all major sports leagues.
The Dolans, who own the Gaurdians, had their own cable network for the team up until 5 years ago called Sportstime Ohio on cable (which also showed the Reds too). They then sold it to Fox Sports RSN for millions. Fox then sold out to Disney, and Disney sold it to Sinclair who owned Ballys. It all comes full circle for them to bring back Sportstime Ohio .
Diamond/Bally Sports has been atrocious for fans for years. The limitations made by them made it harder for fans to even watch their teams. This is a good thing for fans forcing these teams to find new partners and change how they operate when it comes to broadcasting.
MLB is sick of local blackouts, which takes hundreds of millions out of their pockets. They want to control every market at the end of the day, and this is just the start. Small market teams are more than happy to get faaaaaaar more coverage now that they are not blacked out in their local market. They will make up the difference in ticket sales and merch sales, easily.
Brodie. Good stuff. Question. When you say the Twins reported $50m in revenue is that strictly rights money or does it include inventory within the broadcast owned by the team? For example, it has been rumored that Diamond pays the Columbus Blue Jackets about $2m a year for rights, but the team owns about 30% of the advertising inventory that they then package into their sponsorship deals. If they sell a $2m sponsorship package that includes arena signage, promotions and spots durning the broadcast, how is that accounted for in the team’s reported totals? It would seem those deals could continue on a streaming platform however, there would be diminished viewership that could effect the overall price. Hope you reply.
good question. I'd think that's just the dollar amount alone... value of placement in broadcast would be an additional number maybe +$2M either way depending on who owns the rights to that value
There's a further ripple you didn't mention outright: Even the players and agents on the other teams are probably alarmed, because if the teams we're discussing can't pay the big bucks, the other teams won't need to either.
200 a year is better than 200 a month. I’d bite for that. Most of the channels cable gives you are free to the consumer. The only reason I would ever have a TV subscription is to watch sports.
That is exactly right! Cable has always been BS. Let me pay for what I want to watch. There's roughly 5 million people in Wisconsin. They will EASILY get to 200,000 if they don't charge too much. Also I believe athletes should absolutely make as much money as they can. They are entertainment, they are rare. I never hear people complain about other TV personalities, maybe because their salaries aren't made public usually.
All I see is MLB and not individual teams making boat loads of cash. If this continues there could be a resurgence of radio broadcasting-which back in the dark ages when I was a kid was the way we followed our teams. Televised games were very few and far between. Isn’t it a shame greed is beginning to spoil everything.
This will be good for the fans. Fans in market of the affected teams can subscribe directly to a special MLB TV plan to get their games on TV without subscribing to a big bundle of channels. The downside is that local MLB TV revenue will be less in the future. Team such as the Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs, & Pirates were a little ahead of their time in having direct subscription streaming options of their Regional Sports Network.
They need to look into both national and local broadcasting partners along with streaming services and they need to get rid of any local broadcast blackouts and offer games in the home media market for the different teams. Not everyone can afford tickets, parking food, beverages, souvenirs and fuel, electric charging or public transport to a game in person.
Good riddance to Bally's and Diamond - not even available to locals here and then Bally's wasn't even paying. So the team's income wasn't there anyways. What started this mess.
Will my cable bill drop since it is where I currently pay for Bally’s to broadcast these games? Probably not and now they want me to pay an extra $200! And baseball wants to know why it’s losing fans.
Baseball is losing fans because the sport isn't as compelling as it used to be... that's why only 9 million watched a World Series that was mainly an over-the-air broadcast.
The Rangers have considered creating their own RSN, similar to YES Network and Marquee. Although for the Rangers I would love to see them join Victory+ with fellow NHL team Dallas Stars, so fans can see their games for free. If the Rangers go with Victory+, they should also try going for a local TV deal too like the Mavericks of the NBA
I wonder if any of these teams could go OTA in whole or in part like some NBA teams have, in addition to streaming and bundle. Bucks had 10 OTA games which happened during the last 3rd of the season. Would be way to create new fans and convert some to the more complete paid service perhaps.
The White Sox is going that route next season. I know not the ideal team for this model, but they have said they will. The Mavs, I know will be airing their games over the air since they've left BallySports. I feel the Rangers could go this route.
They only way they can go over the air if they get deals with local over the air stations which are not many left. Those smaller stations can’t afford the price tag.
And it is exactly the entire problem in MLB Yankees Dodgers can spend 300 million on payroll without blinking an eye while most of the rest of the teams can’t. MLB needs a salary cap, TV revenue sharing.
You forgot the Tigers, but the family that owns Little Caesars Pizza owns both the Tigers and Red Wings...He could probably start his own channel/streaming streaming app, or team with local TV to get the games broadcast...I think Bally Sports is done as soon as the NHL and NBA season is over in April
These are all just symptoms of a much bigger problem. The Problem: Everything is hyperinflated in baseball, and sports in general. Their revenue streams are based upon a time when competition to aerial broadcast weren't in existence. Cable companies screwed customers and broadcasters over, leading to the cord cutter movement. So that part of the janga tower is already failing. Now add to that the disgraceful treatment by MLB of its fans...Nah. This ain't going away...
@@db-rc5frI highly agree, and I suspect when the next (very downsized) national contract comes, the league as whole will take 30%, perhaps even 40% haircut...I would lay a lot of the blame on the player's union, for sidesaddling with MLB in a lot of this nonsense...
Seems unfair that these teams have to compete payroll wise with bigger markets. Obviously a salary cap and floor would be best for the sport. Will it ever happen? No.
Money. But the concentration of teams/rsn coverage was actually larger before Fox sold the RSN rights to Sinclair/Bally's. And it wasn't just MLB, all the leagues except the NFL had the Fox Sports RSNs cover a large portion of teams. There was little objection because the money was too much for teams to say no.
I had spectrum internet and cable win I lived in saint Louis 200 per season to watch every Cardinals game could be a good deal. I will wait and see what happens
Putting an entire sport behind a subscription paywall is a great way to NEVER grow your fanbase. Casual fans won't pay. New fans won't discover the sport. And eventually die hard fans will die off. Major League Soccer has completely disappeared since moving to subscription TV. On the other hand, I love that the White Sox (and Bulls, Blackhawks) are now free on over-the-air broadcast TV
The Mariners might be the next ones to have their broadcasts taken over by MLB given the dire situation Root Sports (the team's current network that is owned entirely by them) is currently in. Root Sports has lost the regional broadcast rights to both the Portland Trail Blazers & the Seattle Kraken the past few months as both teams did deals with their local ABC (Blazers) & NBC (Kraken) stations in an effort to increase viewership of their games especially after Comcast moved Root Sports to its highest priced package. With more people cutting the cord & no other teams (especially during the winter months & when there are no Mariners games) willing to fill the void left behind by the Kraken & Trail Blazers, the Mariners may have no choice but to shut down Root Sports if they want to stop losing money even if it means they have no control over their broadcasts.
Pirates bought into the station that the Penguins bought from AT&T. I wonder how the financials of that arrangement compare to letting the league do it...
It is a similar situation in Seattle with the Mariners though unlike the Pirates, the Mariners don't have another team to share the network with now that both the Kraken & the Blazers have both left the network in favor of over the air TV deals. The Mariners may have no choice but to shut down the network soon because they are literally the only team on there & have to pay for programming during times in which there are no games or it is not baseball season.
You are forgetting relatively new revenue source, gambling on the baseball games. While they are not now generating any income on tv or internet rights now, it may be in the future. The teams do get advertising income from the gambling sites now but it could be much larger if the teams give those companies the right to broadcast their games via their web sites and or on local TV stations. It is too early to see where this may go but in the future it could be like advance deposit horse racing companies operate. If you have an account and actively bet on a horse race with them you can see almost any racetrack both here in the USA as well as around the world with live broadcasts from the track running the races. The racetracks make money by getting a percentage of the bets made through the betting sites. The betting sites also get a percentage of the bet on the races. Just like baseball the bigger and more popular racetracks get a higher percentage of the betting than the smaller market racetracks. But it is a model that baseball could try if they can’t raise good money with other outlets.
As the Yankee fan I am sick about what is coming with Soto. Scott Boras is bad for baseball. I wish there could be a great reset and do away with these massive contracts. It’s just not cool when you see such a disparity that is only going to be widened with all of this.
Yankees are part of the problem to begin with, they should not be allowed to sign Soto. MLB has a concentration issue. Only a handful of teams can really be successful year in and year you. MLB needs a salary cap and re set with all TV money going into one pot and equally shared.
I don’t think anyone should be surprised about this, and MLB should have had a better plan for this transition. Cable sucks and people over 40 don’t pay for it (anyone that knows how to get around the paywall, anyway).
I don't see MLB making the same revenue with individual team streams that they got from local broadcasters. One of the other factors that isn't discussed much here is the fact that the local broadcasters operate networks with other programming and revenue streams e.g. digital content and use MLB broadcasts to plug their other offerings during the game, so they can somewhat subsidize the cost of the broadcast by making revenues off of their other streams. What does MLB do when they are their own product and tries to offer say a Cleveland Guardians monthly/annual TV channel package? They have to fill the rest of the broadcast day and the entirety of the more than 200 days less playoffs (if applicable) that the team isn't playing. What do they fill it with to entice a viewer to want to watch it on say December 2 at 3:00 in the afternoon?
But do you have to have full programming? As an example in 2011, when an NHL team returned to Winnipeg, they had a part time specialty channel. They showed all the games that were not on national TV, 65 I think it was. So every month there was a $10 charge for the channel if you wanted it, in season only so around 6 months. Pre and post game shows and that was it, the rest of the time the channel showed nothing. But it was partnered with TSN (ESPN equivalent) in Canada. It only lasted one season though because TSN went from 1 to 5 channels the following season for more regional coverage of their sports teams. But I don't think a MLB team will get anything near , what they have seen in the past with this type of channel arrangement.
This is why "popup" channels are becoming more popular in usage for the local broadcasts. And MLB does not need to offer a dedicated channel to stream live events considering it just makes the local feed available on MLBTV to the individual team's package subscribers. Nor does MLB need a dedicated channel for non-live events. Much of that content is not high in viewership but can be offered in an on-demand portal on the team's website, as done today, that is if it wants to add exclusive content to enhance the live game bundle subscription. Otherwise, social media channels will show that content instead.
@@Actionronnie : if you want to get to the same revenue levels that you did when you leased the rights to broadcast networks, yes, you probably do. Look at Brodie's math at the 8:40 mark. 250,000 subscribers at $200 a pop gets to $50 million, and that doesn't even take into consideration the expenses associated with running the channel that the broadcasters previously absorbed. Using the model you proposed, you'd need more than triple the subscribers to pull that off. Even factoring in supply and demand economics, that's most likely not happening. It works for the NHL because the NHL is primarily a gate-driven league, whereas MLB tends to be more diversified in its streams.
Major League Baseball needs to just go back to the regional broadcasts. They have already ruined the game as it is. Perhaps, maybe, give the fans (the few that are left) the opportunity to watch and not make it nearly impossible.
The Detroit Tigers must have a plan because they have a deep broadcasting roster that goes between MLB, hockey and basketball. I don't they'd spend the money on this staff if they weren't planning something big.
Exactly why MLB needs a new labor agreement with all TV money going into one big pot like the NFL does. It would also make more teams competitive. Some teams ie A’s get next to nothing in local TV deals, while others ie NY get billions. Which is why MLB is in trouble.
@@Parlimant_Strifey Because they are in NY and get billions in local money and are a destination that players want to go to. They are a glam city with more resources then just about any other team. When the 4 teams were in NY it was a totally different era without big TV money, and huge contracts. Some players were getting less then the average joe back then. I have no problem with NY getting a lot of money, I have an issue with it not being shared with everyone at least the TV money should be equally shared regardless of where you are located. NY gets billions because of their market, A's get next to nothing.
Hey Brodie, do you think any of the MLB teams mentioned could explore online streaming their games like the Dallas Stars are on Victory+? I think it would be interesting.
To me the Rangers should join Victory+ since the Stars and Rangers have great relations and it would heavily increase household viewership. Victory+ has already shown this potential with the Stars
You know Bally could have made some more money by, you know, negotiating carriage deals with literally any TV provider that isn't Spectrum or DirecTV. Also these teams weren't spending money in the first place, so they're just going to use it as an excuse to spend less.
Vegas TV revenue for the A's will be at the bottom of the league. Only relying on tourists filling the stands is near sighted. Stupid move, a storied franchise destroyed.
Well, maybe Teams should stop handing out $400 million contracts for 5 years swinging a stick, maybe lower the salaries overall. Reduce ticket price to a level, that more people will attend games more often, and the stadiums aren’t just filled for a third of capacity?! Why would or should anyone pay for 3 different networks to watch his team? The greed of the players and owners is destroying the game. Joe Average can’t afford to shell out 300 bucks for 2 seats and another 50 for a softdrink and a Hot Dog. It’s ridiculous. Time to get some normality back, stop overpaying athletes . You don’t have to finance their grandchildren’s life as well.
I see a VERY HARD SALARY CAO and another players STRIKE or a MLB LOCKOUT... No doubt about it... The Billionaires are not going to be LOSING money paying overpaid players salaries they can't or won't afford... Business comes first, winning second...
Surprise Braves and NBC Comcast haven't worked out something for a regional network since they have the regional headquarters right next to truist park
@matthewjones4037 I don't think Comcast wants to go further into the RSN model. They just shut down NBC Sports Chicago, and NBC Sports Washington also recently went away.
Baseball has been way too stable compared to other leagues. We might get 5-6 relocations coming up because of this and from a purely business perspective it may be overdue
@@cohengamertv6548 the Twins were almost contracted before. Now with Target Field you guys are probably safe till at least 2040. But if there was a sport I could see Minnesotans being okay to lose I could see it being the Twins (but much more likely the Wolves leave)
Cant NOBODY afford 2 pay more $$$ for anymore streaming!!! Either streaming needs to drop prices DRAMATICALLY or the internet needs 2 b FREE. I wonder where the White Sox TV Broadcast goes since they shut down NBC Sports Chicago.. gonna hope my S.F. Giants don't do that with NBC Sports Bay Area
Giants have like a 15 year TV deal already in place. It’s not as massive as some of the deals but they are high up on the list. I think they are in the top 10 in TV revenue. They just have had crummy management. You could say the same with the Sox’s
I wonder if they'll use Florida Panthers model of local OTA channels in their markets combined with a fairly low priced streaming app??? Panthers will have games on a local channel ( lots of them available these days with antenna) that will also be available on cable/Sat... Also have a subscription App available including on ROKU and other platforms to watch games at a reasonable price.. Only available though in local markets... sorta like the YES and MSG Apps in the NY area tied to a cable/Sat subscription or stand alone as well... None of these are available out of market which has the MLB app for baseball and ESPN+ for hockey...
So, the free agent market is likely to contract and MLB already charges way too much for their subscription while also blacking out games for the most arbitrary reasons.
The rich will get richer, which means we'll see the Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers and (unless they REALLY screw up) Mets in the World Series every year, buying players from the other teams (which will need the money). Just like in the old days (remember the Washington Senators, St. Louis Browns, and the Philadelphia A's.) If baseball isn't dead as a sport now, this will definitely kill it.
Might i add, without Sinclair buying Fox's RSN's the Disney-Fox merger wouldnt have been allowed to go through. If Disney would have held on to the RSN's they would have been in violation of the Sherman Anti Trust Act by having a monopoly of sports programming
MLBTV is already offering out of market deals with each in market team as an add on. The problem with any Amazon or Apple type deal is those "streamers" have significant restricted payouts if subscriber counts are not reached. And since MLBs streaming is already being run now by ESPN, unless MLB sublicenses those games out, they'll likely keep everything under the MLBTV platform.
The Pohlads just announced they’re putting the Twins up for sale and seeing as they’re all about the money I’d say that’s pretty good confirmation that they won’t be making the same money from their broadcasting rights.
The problem with MLB is the cost of cable TV and ticket prices parking, food, etc. I know that the high price of going to a game or watching on cable TV will hurt all sporting events. I do not mind going to games, but I am old and will have problems with walking and spending hours in traffic and other problems. I believe that all sporting events will have a problem with younger fans because of the high costs. I spend over thousand dollars attending a Dodger game with my wife because she does wants to sit behind home plate or will not go to the game.
Basically these regional sports networks and MLB and frankly other sports on cable(minus the NFL) have a business model of non-sports watchers helping to pay for sports content. That's the secret sauce to gigantic local tv rights. As the cable bundle business model becomes extinct, sports teams are just going to have to try to get their customers to pay directly for content, so it will be more expensive for their fans, and the teams are going to get less revenue. And the few super teams that do well will have to subsidize the rest of the league.
Did you forget the Angels? Not really an issue, as they have been pretty forgettable these past few seasons and I wouldn't blame the MLB or Diamond/Ballys wanting to ignore them. This is the big Los Angeles market and the Angels cheapie owner needs to put a contending team on the field if he wants to get a good audience from the surrounding Orange County and Riverside/San Bernardino areas (TV or attendance at the games), but he seems adverse to any financial risk and wants someone else to pay for it.
@@brodiebrazil yeah it does. Because The teams could just sell the advertising space like Bally Sports did. The clubs may make even more money that way. I think they will.
They just need to sign one streaming contract. It’s insane to spend 150 a year on MLB network and I don’t get the playoff games I want to watch. I love watching baseball, but it’s getting too expensive to be a fan.
Here's hoping the loss of revenue will force the Monfort's to sell the Rockies to someone who actually cares about winning instead of just making money

I grew up watching the Cubs for free on WGN. Then we moved to NYC and I could see the Mets & Yankees for free. The 21st century sucks.
I Miss the old channel 9 days!
i watched many games on WGN and Jack Brickhouse and made go to Wrigley. Now i do not follow them to expensive.

I sure hope so, but I'm not holding my breath on that.

@danielkurlan182 yes I believe he has more money as well, and New York is the top media market in the country
Diamond/Bally Sports has been atrocious for fans for years. The limitations made by them made it harder for fans to even watch their teams. This is a good thing for fans forcing these teams to find new partners and change how they operate when it comes to broadcasting.
I think the Rangers might join Victory Sports which is majority owned by The Stars.
That's what the Rockies should've done with Altitude. Why any of these guys trust the league office is beyond me...
All that monopoly cash 💵 is running out! 🤜 😊
Remember when MLB made the Braves dismantle their TBS affiliation and limited the number of games WGN can show of the Cubs to push RSNs? Good times...
Of course not......
Baseball is losing fans because the sport isn't as compelling as it used to be... that's why only 9 million watched a World Series that was mainly an over-the-air broadcast.
Sounds like MLB needs a salary cap
There is no way small market teams can generate enough revenue..
This is why media deal revenue sharing will become a much larger debate amongst MLB ownership over the next few years.
Won’t be long before some teams don’t make payroll.
@@db-rc5frI highly agree, and I suspect when the next (very downsized) national contract comes, the league as whole will take 30%, perhaps even 40% haircut...I would lay a lot of the blame on the player's union, for sidesaddling with MLB in a lot of this nonsense...

How did MLB allow so much of teams’ local TV rights to be concentrated in Bally Sports/Diamond Sports Group?
This could lead to 6 or more MLB teams relocating for better tv deals. I would not count on fees falling while prices are going up.
I think Cleveland might be in immediate danger in this case
The brewers had the worst TV deal by far, only making them 33m this year. I would be surprised if they made less from this new arrangement

Hey Brodie. Your thoughts on the Tropicana demolition and the prominence of the A's on display?
demolition was a given for months, and if the a's weren't present last night... would have been a huge red flag.
Easy solution: put games on local broadcast TV like the NFL does! This is the best way to reach the most people possible!
Diamond/Bali also cut the Detroit Tigers. The upside would be 100% revenue sharing for all MLB teams.
@@chrisguardiano6143 Pirates and Penguins are showing A LOT of old game. Minor league affiliates also have gotten airtime
$200/year? That's a no for me. Maybe $99.
right, 250k subscribers for each team seems like a reach too
You are forgetting relatively new revenue source, gambling on the baseball games.
It’s just not cool when you see such a disparity that is only going to be widened with all of this.
how do you think Nationals fans feel?? Scott Boras is a cancer of the MLB
Yea most if not all fans don’t care about the Yankees problems you make the most money boo freakin hoo!
Yankees are part of the problem to begin with, they should not be allowed to sign Soto. MLB has a concentration issue. Only a handful of teams can really be successful year in and year you. MLB needs a salary cap and re set with all TV money going into one pot and equally shared.
Thanks, Brodie. Another great report.
They could if they price it correctly but this is the MLB were talking about here.
I don't they'd spend the money on this staff if they weren't planning something big.

when will brodie post a video about MLB forcing profitable to subsidize non-profitable franchises, or downsize?
Exactly why MLB needs a new labor agreement with all TV money going into one big pot like the NFL does. It would also make more teams competitive. Some teams ie A’s get next to nothing in local TV deals, while others ie NY get billions. Which is why MLB is in trouble.
Yankees ball has been profitable for decades now. Even with the Mets, Giants and Dodgers in the same area. Go Babe!!!
The Red Sox need to fund their PGA/ Pittsburgh Penguins purchases; I don't think the Sox are interested in that line of spending in the near future...
I don’t think buying players has helped the Dodgers to be fair
So these markets are also losing honest criticism of team management and operations?
Individual salary cap. No player should make more than $15M year throwing a small ball around 7 months a year. Seriously!
Might i add, without Sinclair buying Fox's RSN's the Disney-Fox merger wouldnt have been allowed to go through. If Disney would have held on to the RSN's they would have been in violation of the Sherman Anti Trust Act by having a monopoly of sports programming
The big market teams won't share their revenues. That's why baseball doesn't work as well as football.
MLB could take all of the 'orphan' teams and put together a multi-team streaming package modeled on the MLS deal with Apple
Amazon Prime would likely have a greater reach, not sure how much they would be willing to spend now that they have the NBA and NFL.
Hopefully they follow hockey and go to Scripps sports. Any news on the Marlin's. My friend got the opportunity with the padres broadcasting team
If each of these teams could generate $50m/yr in TV revenue, would Bally's be dropping them?
Did you forget the Angels? Not really an issue, as they have been pretty forgettable these past few seasons and I wouldn't blame the MLB or Diamond/Ballys wanting to ignore them. This is the big Los Angeles market and the Angels cheapie owner needs to put a contending team on the field if he wants to get a good audience from the surrounding Orange County and Riverside/San Bernardino areas (TV or attendance at the games), but he seems adverse to any financial risk and wants someone else to pay for it.
I wouldn’t call that trouble because I trust MLB advanced media more than Bally Sports. Bally sports sucks.
Trust doesn’t pay the bills though
@@brodiebrazil yeah it does. Because The teams could just sell the advertising space like Bally Sports did. The clubs may make even more money that way. I think they will.

They just need to sign one streaming contract. It’s insane to spend 150 a year on MLB network and I don’t get the playoff games I want to watch. I love watching baseball, but it’s getting too expensive to be a fan.
I hated bally, almost none of the cable packages have bally included.
Keep Bally away from The Bay Area.
Here's hoping the loss of revenue will force the Monfort's to sell the Rockies to someone who actually cares about winning instead of just making money
Rockies should probably move honestly
Here comes a salary cap and it's about time!
