I bought the original ZV-1 shortly after it came out. I have loved it. My biggest problems with it was the mount/battery compartment issue and the telephoto. While vlogers wanted wider, as someone who normally films others, I wanted longer. Prior to the ZV-1 I purchased the Canon PowerShot SX740 HS mainly because of the 24 to 960mm zoom at 4k 30. It even has decent image stability. Overall I love it, that telephoto is amazing, but you have no manual control, the 4k is only 30pfs, no 24 or 60, no mic jack, or place to mount one if it did. When I use it I also have to carry some form of offboard audio. At the time it was the Zoom H1n but now that we have reasonably priced wireless mics with onboard recording, I'd probably go that route. Looking at the Pocket 3, I am blown away. The extra contrast and dynamic range makes the ZV-1 look way softer and the sky was abysmal in comparison. I just wish there was a way to put more telephoto in it. The audio, without headphones was quite similar even without the wireless mics. I will end up buying one early next year. At this point in the year, I am solely focused on getting gifts for others.
I also have Sony ZV-1 and DJI Pocket 3. The Pocket 3 blows ZV-1 away, in terms of video, convenience, stabilizer, horizon lock, low light situation, wider angel lenses.
DJI stole this market. Zero reason to purchase any other camera for this purpose at this point. I love mine… just received the Freewell mega filter kit. This little pocket camera is one of my all time favorites right now. I take it everywhere… much like my Ricoh GRIII. I think the audio issues are either a mic problem, or settings issue. I can hear your audio clipping. Also, you can enable an in transmitter 32 bit float backup recording… which essentially cannot clip and even quiet recordings can be cleanly boosted in post. FYI: Audio is very clean on mine. Keep in mind, I’m something of an audiophile.
There was a bit of audio distortion at the beginning of the video and alot more in the conclusion part were you said the mic was boosted by +8. Is there a gain control on the microphone and a separate one on the pocket 3? It would be interesting to know how far up the audio meters were hitting on the pocket 3's screen as there should be no distortion if they are not hitting into the very right hand side. If the meters are not hitting there then I would think the distortion is coming from an overload in the gain on the microphone its self.
The setting is microphone-specific (i.e. mic 1 or mic 2) but set in the P3. There is no gain control on the mic itself. The on-screen meter did not appear to be peaking (red) when I had it set to +8, but as you mentioned, the sound was bad. I have settled on using +3, which maintains overall quality, but I have to raise the volume of every clip in post. Not ideal but workable.
@@ttl_channel I am looking at getting a pocket 3 myself. I guess as long as the audio is clear a bit of boost, compression and a tad of limiting should short it out in post. Thanks for the great review?
Thanks a lot for this video, I have a ZV1 and I love it but the difference is so incredible, that I will buy the Pocket 3 for sure! :) For the audio, it's not a problem: now the signal to noise is very small, so you'd better let the sound at the middle, and boost it (normalize) while your video editing. The sound that you have in this video is clipping! And notice that the DJI Mic 2 can record in the microphone, and in 32 bits, so your signal to noise will be ridiculous and the clipping will be almost impossible :) (i'm an amateur sound engineer) Cheers and Thanks once again from France :)
I ordered my Pocket 3 now. I already have the Pocket 2. I thought about ZV1 but it really makes no sense. Can someone tell me why on the Pocket 3 the sound with wireless and the inside mic are always in super low volume?! Why? I don't want to raise the audio for every single video. It should be possible to maybe change it in the Pocket? Or they should fix that weird bug. I watched like 20 Videos about the Pocket 3 and in every one you can see that the volume is super low if you do not raise it.
The DJI accepts magnetic “attachments” on the front of the lens, but because of the gimbal, these need to be very light. DJI makes a wide-angle magnetic lens, but I’m not aware of any others.
The new Ace/Ace Pro look like very good action cams, but I don't have any hands-on experience with them. Frankly, I'm waiting for their next-gen 360 camera.
I have both and you can get amazing results with the Sony IF you dial in the right settings. And if it’s locked down on a tripod. I like the ZV1 a lot but the pocket is superior in most, not all, ways.
I like the Ability of the Z1f to be able to hook the camera into a larger display so you can see what your shooting better,I wish the pocket 3 had this feature but sadly it does not
I may do a follow-up on photo quality, but frankly, the P3 is definitely more video-centric. The Sony should perform much better when it comes to stills - it has a 3X optical zoom, adjustable aperture and many other settings that the P3 does not offer.
Do you think there’s an audio issue. On a separate note I had issues with the time being way off on my video, this was also an issue with Pocket2. Any idea what I’m doing wrong? Thank you
I appreciate your honest reviews - so many reviews are biased due to sponsorships etcetera. I am totally new to the game, and have just bought a Sony zv1 mark II. I will be mainly doing talking head content so am wondering if I should keep my sony or exchange it for the DJI? I have only just received my sony today so haven't unboxed it yet!!! Any advice is greatly appreciated....
Tough question - they are both excellent cameras. I actually just purchased a Mark ii myself and will be publishing some reviews on it shortly. If your videos involve either walk & talk, or you moving around showing/demonstrating something, then I would say the DJI would be a better choice, due to its superior stabilization and its tracking capabilities. However, if your setup is fixed, the Sony might have the edge, due to it's zoom (easier framing) and softer image direct out of camera.
In a direct comparison, I'm a bit disappointed with the Sony. The Dji's dynamic range is significantly better and the Dji Mic connection is more convenient
Excellent thanks, I’ve just sold my zv-1. Mainly due to its typically very detailed menu system which is a plus for some but a minus for me. The Sony onboard mic is awful, a constant hiss in the background, and the lack of a touchscreen menu. I really did like the camera, superb focusing, nice defocus button and amazing macro and still shots but my camera need are nearly all video now now I’ve took a leap and gone for the pocket 3. Zv-1 used market is flooded and the prices have plummeted as has the pocket 2. Can’t wait for it to arrive. This camera has taken small cameras to a new level and I wish other manufacturers would step away from the conventional box with a lens and find a form that’s easier to hold and use like DJI have done
He did say at the end of the video he was using the default settings. I know with my ZV-1 after tweaking the settings, I got a much better picture than the default. Outside of that it really comes down to use case. If you mostly vlog, hands down the Pocket 3 is your best option. However if you do other types of content creation, the ZV-1 will be more versatile. Once the settings are dialed in on both cameras, they should be very complementary of each other. I will buy the Pocket 3 but I won't be getting rid of my ZV-1. If anything, I would get rid of my Canon SL3 not that I'd get much for it. That said, as I find myself doing less comercial work for others, I'm using my interchangeable lens cameras less and less.
ZV-1 auto mode is horrendous, terrible DR and colors truly sucks. The only good PP is HLG, IMO. But Pocket really takes it when it comes to VLOG/Video...
I’ve tried that skin smoothening on and off on the Sony, it softens the entire picture and make it look horrible IMO. Needs to be turned off to get a proper comparison.

Brilliant job and shows how much the DJI Pocket is improved.
It’s a huge upgrade - thanks for watching

Active tracking is mind blowing feature!

You are selling yourself and your contacts information when you did agree to the contract to dji.

I really like the P3, but it seems that DJI need to do something about the audio. Like you, I don't want to constantly edit audio!
This is a great review! Thanks for making it.
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching.
Amazing...but I HV one question..can extra lenses be added to DJI just like Sony??
The DJI accepts magnetic “attachments” on the front of the lens, but because of the gimbal, these need to be very light. DJI makes a wide-angle magnetic lens, but I’m not aware of any others.
@@ttl_channel thank you for the information. appreciated .
Perfect tests, exactly what I was curious about. Would have liked to see a test between the zooms of both cameras.
I may do a zoom test as part of a different video, but that is an area where the Sony should do much better, as it has an optical zoom.
@@ttl_channelof course, I’m just curious how much better. Thanks again for a great comparison video!
What's up with the popping noises in the conclusion section? Too high gain?
Yes, I wanted to see if I could solve the low volume issue by boosting the gain - not very successful!
such a good comparison. I'm gwtting my pocket 3 Tuesday. Thanks so much for your help
Glad I could help. Thanks for watching.
what do you think about the new ACE Pro remote?
The new Ace/Ace Pro look like very good action cams, but I don't have any hands-on experience with them. Frankly, I'm waiting for their next-gen 360 camera.
@gwebster65 me too, the X4 will have 8k and/or AI lowlight for sure
I have both and you can get amazing results with the Sony IF you dial in the right settings. And if it’s locked down on a tripod. I like the ZV1 a lot but the pocket is superior in most, not all, ways.
Agreed. I still use my ZV-1 for my talking head clips.
I like the Ability of the Z1f to be able to hook the camera into a larger display so you can see what your shooting better,I wish the pocket 3 had this feature but sadly it does not
Good point. Thanks.
Sony looks so much more natural. The weird tint shifting in dji devices is too weird
A very good comparison!
Thanks and thanks for watching.
Outstanding review thank you. How about photo quality?
I may do a follow-up on photo quality, but frankly, the P3 is definitely more video-centric. The Sony should perform much better when it comes to stills - it has a 3X optical zoom, adjustable aperture and many other settings that the P3 does not offer.
This is an awesome video! Thanks very much :)
Thank you. Glad you liked it!
Why the snap or crackling noise in the audio of the DJI?
I assume you are talking about the conclusion...I had the gain turned way up. Won't be doing that any more!
It sounds like digital audio distortion
Do you think there’s an audio issue. On a separate note I had issues with the time being way off on my video, this was also an issue with Pocket2. Any idea what I’m doing wrong? Thank you
He had the Gain way up and the audio is clipping.
thanks this the test whom i need for my choice
You're welcome - thanks for watching.

A good video made for me. As i have zv-1 and want to upgrade to something that is not expensive
Glad you found it useful. Thanks for watching.
“Indoor studio” in a 90s style bedroom 😂😂
Actually, close to 1890’s (not kidding!)
@@ttl_channel lol. Dang
i have them both and i can tell that dji is much better in video quality and sony zv1 better in photos and slow mo thats it

I was very surprised at how good the P3 was. That said, I do still like my ZV-1. It’s also a pretty capable stills camera.
@@ttl_channel I would have kept the zv-1 as well but I just can’t afford to it one or the other
Why would anyone buy sony zv-1 after watching your video.
Certainly not for video, but maybe if you also need more flexibility for still photography.
He did say at the end of the video he was using the default settings. I know with my ZV-1 after tweaking the settings, I got a much better picture than the default.

Still, I ordered ZV 1 because the video quality is more cinematic and good for both photos and videos.
This is brutal
ZV-1 auto mode is horrendous, terrible DR and colors truly sucks. The only good PP is HLG, IMO. But Pocket really takes it when it comes to VLOG/Video...
Yes colours look awful on pocket 3. Use manual settings instead to get the same results as pocket 3.
we can clearly tell there was a skin smothening enabled on the zv1, that ruined the comparison
Thanks for the feedback - I will have to look into that.
Absolutely agree
I’ve tried that skin smoothening on and off on the Sony, it softens the entire picture and make it look horrible IMO. Needs to be turned off to get a proper comparison.
Dji killed sony
I was very surprised at how much better the DJI was.
