Okay 2 yrs later I bought the s20 ultra July 2022. This is a impressive device better than expected and definitely better than alot of the reviews said especially after the updates that fixed the issues with camera I give the phone a 10 out 10. I upgraded my 10 plus to the s20 ultra and me being a note fan girl that was a big step for me overall. But I've fallen for the s20 ultras capabilites and versatility. Very satisfied with my purchase.
Just got mine. My camera totally isn't working right. Didn't know there were issues till too late. Probably gonna have to return it to the eBay seller I bought it from
i noticed you still have the pre-installed screen protector on the note 10 when doing the comparison to the ultra, since ive removed the screen protector from my note 10, its gotten noticeably faster to unlock my phone and more accurate readings of my fingerprint, just an observation
I once removed the pre installed screen protector of my s10+, and yes the fingerprint became faster and the display was better, but i noticed after few weeks the scratches it got. I never even dropped this and i took care of it. So i bought screen protector and just depend on face id for faster unlock. Cant stand those scratches.

1349 EUR here in Estonia with free Galaxy Buds+. 64GB iPhone 11 Pro Max is 1249 EUR so considering slightly bigger storage of the Ultra and the free Galaxy Buds+ it really aint that bad. Also you can get 100 EUR off the Galaxy S20 series of phones if you trade in any old phone(if your old phone is worth something they'll give you more). I'm considering finding an old Nokia or smth similar for the trade in.
I just tested out the Galaxy S20 Ultra at the store and DAMN. I may be a Samsung user in 2021 or before. jumping from an iPhone 8 Plus, the 120Hz display is a colossal upgrade and their screens are immaculate. 🔥🔥🔥

Their a waste of time Samsung phones always have screen issues their amoled have high failure rates (my s8 and s9 got screen burn in) and their phones always end up not meeting expectations. The s20 ultra performance isn't really much better than a S10 just a higher zoom lens and sd865 which won't make much difference to the average user. Now the 12gb ram only 6gb will be used the other 6 will just sit there doing nothing because nobody has enough apps open to notice it. Samsung just added a big camera bump and added extra numbers for marketing and hype.

Same here. I tend to keep a phone for about six years. I owned the iPhone 4 and 6 plus currently. I only buy a new phone when I actually need to buy one. So, I don’t mind paying the premium at all.

DarkHawk i could see the only profession that this phone has is being deceptive. 5G isn’t ready, 100x digital zoom is a gimmick, 120 hertz is for tricking the eyes and you fall right into the trap. Professional phone tho??
Lil correction: it's 4x optical zoom. Equivalent to a 102mm lens on a full frame camera sensor or 68mm on a APS-C sensor camera. (4 X 25.5mm, cos the main sensor focal length full frame equivalent is 25.5mm). For those wondering, the 10x comes from 4x optical and 2.5x digital. Samsung calls it hybrid zoom. They say it uses AI software to enhance/sharpen the image
Right not 10x pure optical but it's not clear the exact official focal optical range. Some sites claim 5x. Maybe it's 4.6x: 29-135mm as I've seen that also quoted. Samsung doesn't spec this at all:-(.
The periscope lens is hardware 4x with digitally assisted 10x zoom. It's confusing because the whole hoopla with 100x made everyone think the hardware was actually 10x, but it's not even that. Still, twice as much as 2 is still cool.

Just a quick note. The note 10 plus and s20 ultra actually have the same size screen . It's because they have a different aspect ratio. I believe gsm arena has them both at 114 cm squared. The note screen is wider and the ultra screen is taller. Same surface area. I know we measure screens by diagonal but since all the aspect ratios are varied that doesn't work. Just a pet peeve of mine. Haha. Great video!

I've had many Samsung phones, all the way up to the Note 10+. But after using the Pixel 4XL for about a week, I can truly say that it is a great, great phone. It may not have all the features the Note has, (some gimmicky), but I love the look and feel of true, stock Android; it is so fluid, like iOS experience. And the screen has a special technology, which makes it look very nice, can't explain it. I guess similar to what iPhone uses on their screens. Of course, the battery could be better for a 2019 phone, but I can still get through a whole day with moderate to heavy use, charging around 8:00pm which is not bad. The only problem I have with Android is still the apps., they are more refined on iOS.
I will say I wasn't feeling the phone just by looking at the videos. But after actually going in the store and seeing it and playing around with it. It's definitely a nice phone. Feels great in the hand and the screen is beautiful. I will say the 100 zoom is a gimmick no need for it at all.

Thanks for the video. I already got an S20 Ultra but I watched your video to check where to peel off the various bits of film from the phone. I dropped something onto the phone and it scratched the screen in several places. Thankfully it turns out that it still had the screen peel still attached and I hadn't noticed it. Now I can peel it off as per your video and I have ordered a screen protector which I should get soon. Phew... I was given an extra life!
Exynos version does not have fm radio, and both versions does not have an analog sound, the DAC is built in into the type c plug of akg headset. So no radio...
so in my opinion the ultra is not necessary, for me atleast. i looked at all of them and i actually went with one thats been less talked about, the 20+. so everyone has been talking about the ultra and 20 but i think the 20+ is the best of both worlds. its got a larger screen but not as huge as the ultra. its got the better 5G. its got the nice camera but no space zoom. now i originally wanted the ultra but i weighed the factors. in my opinion, as cool as space zoom is and how innovative it is, i think its not so usefull right now. am i really gonna take a photo at 100x, no because the quality isnt great. now i see the 100x being useful when you need to look across a room at something or in circumstances similar, but not to take pictures. i see it useful as a visual binocular type of tool. also the 20+ is in the middle for price, look all these phones are expensive, especially compared to the s10 line up. so paying an extra $100-$200 is worth it to me, if im gonna spend $1000 on a phone, i might as well get one with a good amount of features. now that being said i dont want to pay $1500 for an ultra so i think a 20+ is a good compromise. i mean you get a lot for that $100-$200 extra so to me its worth it (extra camera lens, bigger screen, etc). finally thank you if you read all of that, have a good morning/day/afternoon/evening/night

To be honest, the production of your videos look quite good and professional. 👍🏻 In relation to the phone, it seems phones are coming increasingly wider with their displays. This S20 Ultra has a 2.22:1 (20:9) aspect ratio display (or taller, depends on how you look at it...literally). Many TH-camrs are now producing their videos in the 2.00:1 aspects ratio (or 18:9) for this wider phones so that their videos aren’t too cropped off top and bottom. So, these phones are definitely changing how people do things.

Well it's 1440p not 4k if that makes it sting less. Also this is a leak so take it with a grain of salt but apparently Samsung are working on an update to enable 1440p at 120hz. I wouldn't buy the phone on the assumption it will get this update because it might not but don't lose hope just yet.
@@andyhaber89 that was an option that was leaked as well. We might get a "full" mode, a "variable" mode or both but we might not get either. The phone would be able to handle 120hz at 1440p, the bigger concern is battery life and that's probably why the S20 ultra has suck a larger battery to begin with as it's rare to see Samsung and other companies make their phone thicker to add more battery.
That and 5g, hopefully they add a variable refresh rate in an update, otherwise ill probably switch to 1440p 60hz for youtube, netflix etc and 120hz for everything else.
I prefer the fingerprint scanner to be on the back of the phone, like with the note 8. It is really handy and natural to use your index finger that way. It is really cool to unlock the screen without even touching it.
Actually almost all the Jean's I own now from the last couple of years the pockets are more deep, so much that I was like wow these things are deep. Thats Levi's and Carhart brands, I think they must have known phones would be getting longer.
Samsung needs to change the approach of their flagship devices. I am a huge Samsung fan, and I have been since the Galaxy SII. Samsung used to create devices that were more advanced, priced more efficiently, and more feature packed than other smartphone markets (Google, Apple, etc.) It seems as of lately, they've rushed the production and release of their devices, pushing devices that will later receive an 'update', rather than perfecting the devices before they are released to the general public. For example, from 2012-2015, Samsung released their S line phones anywhere from April to June, and they were AMAZING. The S3 was feature packed and versatile, and the S4 drastically advanced on that theory. The S5 was more useful due to the better screen, battery life, and IP rating. The S6 was a huge reformation of the S-line, providing a gorgeous design, a multitude of usable features, and the best camera of 2015. Ever since the S7 in 2016, it seems as though Samsung is becoming complacent in their innovation. They produce phones with generally the same physical blueprint every year, similar cameras that no longer best Apple, Google, or Huawei, mid-ranged battery life, and devices that lost their edge in speed to Apple. Drab design and a small bevy of color options, removing stuff and charging extra to bring those features back. They're heading in the same direction as Apple, as well as the rest of Android devices, and frankly, I'm highly disappointed.

$1400 is a lot of money. In your full review would you please also consider daily driving the dex mode for your desktop use. It would ease my mind knowing that a very usable basic desktop experience is also what you get in the box. Thanks.

Just a quick note. The note 10 plus and s20 ultra actually have the same size screen . It's because they have a different aspect ratio. I believe gsm arena has them both at 114 cm squared. The note screen is wider and the ultra screen is taller. Same surface area. I know we measure screens by diagonal but since all the aspect ratios are varied that doesn't work. Just a pet peeve of mine. Haha. Great video!

I've had many Samsung phones, all the way up to the Note 10+. But after using the Pixel 4XL for about a week, I can truly say that it is a great, great phone. It may not have all the features the Note has, (some gimmicky), but I love the look and feel of true, stock Android; it is so fluid, like iOS experience. And the screen has a special technology, which makes it look very nice, can't explain it. I guess similar to what iPhone uses on their screens. Of course, the battery could be better for a 2019 phone, but I can still get through a whole day with moderate to heavy use, charging around 8:00pm which is not bad. The only problem I have with Android is still the apps., they are more refined on iOS.
I will say I wasn't feeling the phone just by looking at the videos. But after actually going in the store and seeing it and playing around with it. It's definitely a nice phone. Feels great in the hand and the screen is beautiful. I will say the 100 zoom is a gimmick no need for it at all.

Thanks for the video. I already got an S20 Ultra but I watched your video to check where to peel off the various bits of film from the phone. I dropped something onto the phone and it scratched the screen in several places. Thankfully it turns out that it still had the screen peel still attached and I hadn't noticed it. Now I can peel it off as per your video and I have ordered a screen protector which I should get soon. Phew... I was given an extra life!

Exynos version does not have fm radio, and both versions does not have an analog sound, the DAC is built in into the type c plug of akg headset. So no radio...

I just use nova launcher which allows as many as you want. Only downside is every phone looks the same to me as I use the same layout and theme 😅
so in my opinion the ultra is not necessary, for me atleast. i looked at all of them and i actually went with one thats been less talked about, the 20+. so everyone has been talking about the ultra and 20 but i think the 20+ is the best of both worlds. its got a larger screen but not as huge as the ultra. its got the better 5G. its got the nice camera but no space zoom. now i originally wanted the ultra but i weighed the factors. in my opinion, as cool as space zoom is and how innovative it is, i think its not so usefull right now. am i really gonna take a photo at 100x, no because the quality isnt great. now i see the 100x being useful when you need to look across a room at something or in circumstances similar, but not to take pictures. i see it useful as a visual binocular type of tool. also the 20+ is in the middle for price, look all these phones are expensive, especially compared to the s10 line up. so paying an extra $100-$200 is worth it to me, if im gonna spend $1000 on a phone, i might as well get one with a good amount of features. now that being said i dont want to pay $1500 for an ultra so i think a 20+ is a good compromise. i mean you get a lot for that $100-$200 extra so to me its worth it (extra camera lens, bigger screen, etc). finally thank you if you read all of that, have a good morning/day/afternoon/evening/night

I also was looking for some animated lower third ideas and really liked yours. So, admittedly, I’ve borrowed it, but haven’t completely copied it. The colour scheme for my channel is orange and white so, naturally, that’s what colour I’ve gone with for the lower third. Anyway Tim, keep up the great work! In relation to the phone, it seems phones are coming increasingly wider with their displays. This S20 Ultra has a 2.22:1 (20:9) aspect ratio display (or taller, depends on how you look at it...literally). Many TH-camrs are now producing their videos in the 2.00:1 aspects ratio (or 18:9) for this wider phones so that their videos aren’t too cropped off top and bottom. So, these phones are definitely changing how people do things.

10x isn’t optical zoom. It’s hybrid. Samsung doesn’t tell when optical zoom ends but it’s around 5x according to many techyoutubers.

Well it's 1440p not 4k if that makes it sting less. Also this is a leak so take it with a grain of salt but apparently Samsung are working on an update to enable 1440p at 120hz. I wouldn't buy the phone on the assumption it will get this update because it might not but don't lose hope just yet.

@@andyhaber89 that was an option that was leaked as well. We might get a "full" mode, a "variable" mode or both but we might not get either. The phone would be able to handle 120hz at 1440p, the bigger concern is battery life and that's probably why the S20 ultra has suck a larger battery to begin with as it's rare to see Samsung and other companies make their phone thicker to add more battery.
That and 5g, hopefully they add a variable refresh rate in an update, otherwise ill probably switch to 1440p 60hz for youtube, netflix etc and 120hz for everything else.

I prefer the fingerprint scanner to be on the back of the phone, like with the note 8. It is really handy and natural to use your index finger that way. It is really cool to unlock the screen without even touching it.

Actually almost all the Jean's I own now from the last couple of years the pockets are more deep, so much that I was like wow these things are deep. Thats Levi's and Carhart brands, I think they must have known phones would be getting longer.

Samsung needs to change the approach of their flagship devices. I am a huge Samsung fan, and I have been since the Galaxy SII. Samsung used to create devices that were more advanced, priced more efficiently, and more feature packed than other smartphone markets (Google, Apple, etc.) It seems as of lately, they've rushed the production and release of their devices, pushing devices that will later receive an 'update', rather than perfecting the devices before they are released to the general public. For example, from 2012-2015, Samsung released their S line phones anywhere from April to June, and they were AMAZING. The S3 was feature packed and versatile, and the S4 drastically advanced on that theory. The S5 was more useful due to the better screen, battery life, and IP rating. The S6 was a huge reformation of the S-line, providing a gorgeous design, a multitude of usable features, and the best camera of 2015. Ever since the S7 in 2016, it seems as though Samsung is becoming complacent in their innovation. They produce phones with generally the same physical blueprint every year, similar cameras that no longer best Apple, Google, or Huawei, mid-ranged battery life, and devices that lost their edge in speed to Apple. Drab design and a small bevy of color options, removing stuff and charging extra to bring those features back. They're heading in the same direction as Apple, as well as the rest of Android devices, and frankly, I'm highly disappointed.
