This is the BEST tutorial for sublimating with laminate!! thank you so much for being specific with products time and temps that you use that is the most important! I am making business cards with 110lb card stock and I can not wait to see the results!!
I can't tell you just how much this video helped me. A few years ago I was at a closeout store (Marc's) and found 5 ROLLS about 24" X 3" diameter of laminate material for $2.99 each. These have just been sitting on my shelf gathering dust & occasionally laminating important documents. WOW, the possibilities that you have opened for me are ASTOUNDING! Thank You So Much! I can't wait to try this process! My opportunities are almost endless & I probably have enough laminate for the rest of my life!
Just started watching a few videos. Just commenting on protection papers. I laminate pressed flower bookmarks in laminating pouches using an iron now. My roll type laminator broke and looking into replacing with a T-shirt press as more versatile. But I’m surprised no one has mentioned to use parchment baking paper as a protectant. I iron on it! Thanks for all the techniques in videos. It will help my other crafting
Nice.ive experiment with many ways to try and do this but had no success.you found an awesome way to make this happen.after work today I'm going to have to give this a shot.
over time have you found that the laminate will pull off something like a tile? It's a fairly smooth surface so I was curious if you've had experience over time on that.
I tried it and on my first attempt it came out great! The only minor problem I had was the indent from the tape came through because of the heat press, but you can only see it when you move the picture around. So be careful when applying the tape. Thanks for a great video!!!
really appreciate this video. I'm new to this and appreciate a video you can actually follow. Easy to understand. Thank you. Let us know when you do the remake as you had commented previously
Great video and step by step instructions. Thank you! One question: I noticed that when you were first placing the laminate on the canvas, you paused and then turned the laminate over. Which side of the laminate did you choose to be touching the canvas vs facing up to be sublimated later? By the way you switched your original placement, I'm guessing there is a difference in the sides.
I tried this and they turned out great. The only thing I did different was to cut off the corners of the laminate at an angle then wrap the excess to the back and taped in place. That gave me a smooth finished edge and I did not have to cut off the excess. You have to be careful when you wrap and tape on the back that you don't cause any wrinkles on the front.
THIS IS AWESOME. I HAVE SOME''BACKSTOCK OF MISFIT'S'' OF PICTURES I PRINTED OUT FOR ''MUGS'' BUT ''AWWWWWW,PRINTED OUT TO BIG " AND DID NOT WANT TO WASTE THEM'',I KNEW THERE WAS A REASON TO KEEP THEM. THANK YOU,HAPPY NEW YEAR.. THIS WAS A GREAT VIDEO ...''LIFE SAVER''. WOULD "SCOTCH THERMAL LAMINATING POUCHES" WORK?
Fantastic! Congrats on getting off to such a great start with your channel, Southpaw's Studio! Hydrographics have been the rage in recent years, but dye sublimation for many applications has been tried-and-true for so long. Nice demo!
It won't stick. Cotton fibers will not adhere to the laminate. However, I did just watch a video that shows them sublimating the JetPro Opaque sheets with some success.
This is great, thank you. Does the laminate adhere for a long time or is there any lifting of the laminate sheet from the substrate, especially around the edges, as time goes by?
I have a cutting board that I am wanting to press onto. I am wanting to use just words in the middle. Would I laminate the whole board or just the middle that is going to have the wording? Thanks
Great tutorial! One Question though, have you came up with a cheap alternative to Sublimation transfer paper yet? I've been doing A TON of research so Im curious, can we make our own sublimation transfer paper instead of having to deal with the expense of purchasing transfer paper?
Hi, nice video, can you put that laminate in a stainless stell mug surface?. One more thing, what face of the clear laminate you use to put the sub design on it?. Thanks,
COOLEST thing since sliced bread. Everyone is getting one of these for Christmas next year! GRACIAS!!
Yep, it's a nifty little trick.

Great minds thinks alike.
I'm planning the same thing and was wondering what is the thickness (mil) of laminate being used?
@@candyluv6972 it’s 3 mil. I bought the clear of the same brand.
Thank you for keeping the process simple and precise.

Always glad to hear it!
One of the best tutorials I have seen, thank you so much
One of the better videos, decent editing (I don't want 2 minutes and another 2 minutes of video pointed at the heat press).
This was actually my very first video.. my newer ones are MUCH more polished

Great tip!
I would love to see how to prep a piece of metal to be sublimated
I appreciate the length of the video and instruction. I am a new subscriber.
Thanks for the sub!
Great video! You can measure the laminate to the size of the canvas - Save time!!
What side laminate goes down first do you have a shiny side and you have a dull side
Awesome video! Can you do this on fabric and/or on metal?
Nice.ive experiment with many ways to try and do this but had no success.you found an awesome way to make this happen.after work today I'm going to have to give this a shot.
Spectacular results!!! I just got a printer that I will convert when my ink comes in and can't wait to play:) Learning a lot from you!
Have fun!
Thank you hope I can do this on cotton t.shirts as well that would be awesome
Very well done video! Thank you for not beating around the bush and omitting information to reel ppl in. Subbed!
A game changer is this, what micron is the laminate you use.
Nice project.Thank you
Glad you liked it!
I need something to do this in a glass cylinder. Any idea how to do that?
make more videos like this! best one I've seen so far!
I'm actually in the process of remaking this to be better in EVERY way.
over time have you found that the laminate will pull off something like a tile? It's a fairly smooth surface so I was curious if you've had experience over time on that.
Very Nice Job. Thanks for sharing your technique. We Newbies need all the help we can get. lol

Looks interesting, I'm sure that must can work on a mug, using a mug press.
Thanks for sharing great for Mother's Day gift

I usually try to do glossy side out
@@SouthpawsStudio 👍🏼 Thanks for the quick reply.
I just found your channel today and subscribed. I look forward to learning more from you.
Thanks, I've learned a lot.
Glad to help
Thank you so much for the video! Is it possible to laminate on matte lamination? Or does this work only for the gloss lamination
Yes, I noticed this a bit after shooting the video. It's definitely a better way to do it.
Thanks. Great info
No problem!
Question can u do a video on how to sublimate using laminate on Corrugated Yard Signs... need help ASAP..
you killed it thanks for the ideal and you now have a new sub!!!!!
Thanks, I appreciate it!
Nice job
Also have you ever used the same phot twice or is it best to print another photo.
I always print another for best results.

Too Cute! Thanks for the tutorial ❤️👍🥰
Thank you! 🤗
So great!
Incredible and perfect explanation. Thank you so much!
You're welcome! Thanks for checking out my video!

Southpaw's Studio - You’re welcome, sir! Again, so awesome to see you your channel doing so well! 👍
can you use both sides of the sheets and what side do you put face down on the substraight?
Smooth Sides out, rough side against substrate.
You’re very thorough! Thank you! I think I’m confident enough to try! ⭐️
Thanks for watching! I really appreciate it!
Very cool, I imagine if you want a matte finish you could spray with a matte spray
There are also matte laminating pouches.
Very nice hack
Thanks!
Thank you! Very clear instructions and GREAT information!
Two questions: Is the picture printed in the laser printer or regular? Can I use iron since I don't have that device?
Is there anyways to sublimate on silicone watch bands??
did you put shiny side of laminate sheet up or down
what do you think would happen if you put the laminate on cotton fabric ? Have u tried that ?
It won't stick. Cotton fibers will not adhere to the laminate. However, I did just watch a video that shows them sublimating the JetPro Opaque sheets with some success.
great video
Glad you enjoyed it!
This is great, thank you. Does the laminate adhere for a long time or is there any lifting of the laminate sheet from the substrate, especially around the edges, as time goes by?
Seems fine to me. I haven't had any issues with it.
Fantastic video!! Thanks a bunch for sharing your talent!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome Tips, Thank You from Newfoundland, Canada.
Wow thats great 👍👍👍
Excellent video, thank you. One question, is it 3mil laminating pouches?
great job thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Cool, thanks
How do you know which side to use if the lamination sheet it goes it matter?
I usually do glossy side facing outwards.
I love those gloves!!! Been looking all over for those :)
They are definitely the best.. I love them!
i got mines from amazon
can I use this technique for a phone case too?
i wanna have a glossy finish
Have you tried dyepress polygloss? It is sublimation coating for hard substrates. Works great!
No, I haven't. I may do a review video soon on it though.
This is a great idea thanks.
I have a cutting board that I am wanting to press onto. I am wanting to use just words in the middle. Would I laminate the whole board or just the middle that is going to have the wording? Thanks
Awesome video, thank you. I have a bunch of tiles, I assume I can do the same on them?
Yes you can!
Can you use any brand of lament sheets
I saw you use several sheets of paper before pressing the picture, can you explain what they were (underneath and on top of canvas)
Usually something like this:
Butcher Paper > Copy Paper > Substrate > Copy Paper > Butcher Paper
Hi. Would it be the same exact process for Wood Slices?
Personally, I prefer Polycrylic on Wood Slices. Laminate makes them a little "too" glossy..
You need to try color pop ink. Ive used both and color pop ink is my first choice...
I've got my colors pretty dialed on the ink I'm using. I don't see any point to changing.
@@SouthpawsStudio I understand, its always an option. Thanks for msking this video. Has helped me expand to new things.
Amazing 🤩
what side are you using? the shiny or cloudy?
shiny
Hi i like your video. Can i use any laminate for this or its a special laminate
Almost any laminate works fine!
Can you use this method to infuse onto a black surface?
can you use self adhesive sheets on the canvas ???wal mart was out of the pouches !!!
Thank you for that!!
You're welcome. I'll be testing some new things to try very soon!
Thanx, it's really means a lot to me' fantastic!
Do you think this would work for mugs and stainless tumblers?
It should, in theory.
Did you get around to trying this on mugs/tumblers?
hi great video, thanks for sharing. what thickness laminate are you using? does it matter what thickness is used? regards tony UK
Would this work in shirts?
Technically, yes, but I wouldn't. I would use a product like Poly T Plus or Pro.
WOW! Thanks love it
So glad! Thanks!
Can you do this with dark shirts?
Technically, yes, but there are better products, such as Poly-T Plus..
Great tutorial! One Question though, have you came up with a cheap alternative to Sublimation transfer paper yet? I've been doing A TON of research so Im curious, can we make our own sublimation transfer paper instead of having to deal with the expense of purchasing transfer paper?
hi great idea thank you have you tried it on mugs?
I usually just pick up mugs from coastal. They're cheap enough where I don't feel this is needed.
Hi, nice video,
can you put that laminate in a stainless stell mug surface?.
One more thing, what face of the clear laminate you use to put the sub design on it?.
Thanks,
I haven't tried it with a cup. From my understanding, you can use either side.
Can you use this process for t-shirts?
What is the purpose of the additional sheets of copy paper?
Just to protect the heat press, to be honest.
Can you use a toner printed photo or does it have to be inkjet?
Which side of the laminate do u put next to the canvas
Will this work with a laserprint?
