      Most police departments.
      When used properly traditional flares work better.
      Although they can be a fire risk, going back to collect led flares after a roadside incident can be dangerous as well.
      Traditional flares are also brighter and more reliable. Just make sure to buy flares that are rated for 45 minutes or an hour rather than 15 minute

  • @barcham
    @barcham ปีที่แล้ว +118

    Should have tested them at night along with a genuine road hazard flare to see it they were as bright and easy to see as a real flare. Other than that, if I was looking for something like that, I would also opt for the Amazon one as all tests being close to equal, the Amazon ones come in a carrying case which is a nice bonus. Great test though! 👍👍

  • @antibrevity
    @antibrevity ปีที่แล้ว +40

    The difference in runtime and brightness very likely means that the Amazon has a regulated circuit while the Lizard has a cheaper unregulated circuit. Runtime is dependent upon brightness, so to determine overall efficiency we'd need to know the brightness versus time. From your testing, the Amazon appears to have superior circuitry. In this application, I think it would be better to have high brightness for as long as possible than to slowly fade away for a longer time.
    With that said, I doubt that anyone will ever be rescued because they owned this product. It's one of those things that only seems useful when you're half brain-dead and watching TV at 2AM. Kids might enjoy it as a toy, however.

    I have 2 of these that I think were the original manufacturer? They are in my car full time sitting outside. I have them magnetically attached to the under side of my rear parcel shelf. Eneloops are in them and I take them out once in a while to charge them even though they still work fine. Awesome things to have.

    I've used that style long before 2018 even. I have one on the back of my power wheelchair, but also carry a set of the orange ones in my van. I've used them for about 20 years. Bought my first ones at Harbor Freight.

    It's might not be a big deal, and it isn't something that affects me, but you probably should've put a "flashing lights" warning prior to 2:20. The lights on the As Seen On TV product also seems to rotate faster. However, they seem pretty identical, so I would probably buy the Amazon version. They are cheaper, and come with a carrying case.

    You did a freeze test, but what about heat? If they're supposed to be in your car at all times, how do they handle summer? I think being in Vegas, you'd be able to really show their limits.

    The "visible from a mile away" claim is slightly deceptive because human eyes are sensitive enough to see a lit matchstick from about a mile away on a clear dark night.

    Looks pretty useful! I do have to wonder how correct that starting date on Amazon is though, as I have heard a lot about scammers reusing old product pages (and reviews), replacing the text and pictures with new ones for completely different products.

    As usual I have missed the free giveaway but that's not a problem because I already have an entire set of the Amazon ones. You are the greatest! Your TH-cam page is also the first thing I go for when I turn on TH-cam. So thank you very much for your expert advice. It has saved me a lot of money. Not in this particular case but in this particular case the Amazon product worked great for you. And, the Amazon product and your review you told me I need to buy batteries lol.

    I most likely dont need this lol but i stayed for the quality of the review. I know sometimes the cheap imitations or off brand stuff are often hit or miss and its nice to see a non biased and thorough review since most review channels often do them because they are sponsored or something. This is my 1st vid here but i definitely hope to see others for other neato things i might find use for!!

    Usually a product that is branded, get sold as an unbranded product. But it's the product. The factory that produces it sells it to others cheaper. Bought a card knife for 50 cents from ebay and the branded one was 15 dollars.

    Tried using those with my work. They work ok new. But once weathered, in the sun and rain snow, not so good. Not very water proof or resistant. So, if its pouring rain and you have to use them. Better with a regular flare

    My sister got a pack on Amazon and gave her siblings each one and one of her friends and our Mom one for Christmas. So I do have one in the car. I had no need to use it and hopefully I don't, but every the light if I needed it, I would have it. I also have a rechargeable head lamp in the car. Sometimes you need light at night! 😁

    Not sure if it was the camera or the pixel quality I have to watch the video in due to slower internet where I live, but it looks like the orange round light has a flat surface on top and the Lizard one has little spots on the surface. I have an orange one, slight detail differences from the one in this video. I bought it a long time ago, not online. At the time I had never done online shopping. Mine does have them small dots on the top surface though. I don't see any name or info on the light. Maybe it's inside where the batteries go.

    The Amazon one probably has a boost converter in it and the other one goes off just batteries.
    That also means the other is likely goi to fail sooner as when the batteries are free it is probably giving the LEDs more current then they should have.

    I bought something that looked exactly like these a while back (I can’t remember the brand) but I bought them around 2014 at Fry’s electronics for roughly $30 at the time. They were great but they never lasted. Even without use and just stored the batteries wouldn’t last more than a month, and they used 4 AA batteries and the internals would corrode extremely fast even just stored in the trunk. At the time I was in Silicon Valley so the weather wasn’t extreme by any means. They turned out to be a huge waste of money. In the end all 4 of mine corroded away.
