That was an awesome fix, Steve. Your perseverance & honesty saved this lady a lot of money. I hope you keep workin “PART-TIME” for a while longer. Enjoy your videos, along with many others. BRING IT!!
I’m going to be honest most companies wouldn’t touch that unit. Let alone most techs that are in the field no wouldn’t even know the first thing to do. I love your videos man and appreciate your work! there are very few of your breed left.
The way he dropped that panel right a her feet was amazing. This guy is truly one of a kind. An amazingly intuitive and gifted mechanical mind. Been watching this guy get people going for years now.
You sequenced your diagnosis the same way I would have; winding up with the hard start. I had that same unit and didn't know the first thing about A/C back in 2011. Thanks for going the extra mile for the lady.
I'm glad you could fix it for the nice lady. Those 2-wire Supco hard starts work, but maybe work too well -- the compressor makes a loud bang sound when it kicks on. The 5-2-1 Compressor Saver kits seem to be less harsh on the compressor when it starts. That's what I noticed on my own old Ruud unit, anyway.
That’s exactly what mine did… tried replacing the connectors but they just burn back off after a few weeks again. Ended up having to replace the entire harness and wire set however they have changed to a rubber over mould now which required grinding the pin spades off and grinding off part of the snap cover can for it to fit. Been good as new ever since. It was clear the new style connector was meant to fix exactly this issue. Best $20 on amazon i ever spent.
These kits are available with the wires long enough to reach the necessary components. What is available in from a professional supply house and Amazon are worlds apart.
@@potatolew4495 no doubt but what was on amazon was the official oem replacement part. Probably could have saved a few bucks using something third party
replaced a 1985 Ruud system a few months ago... pretty amazing. only a new condenser fan motor ~8 years ago. Replaced w mini-split: less than half the current draw!
I'd bet that the capacitor function going slowly out of range is what heated up those wire connections which were also on their way out but the cap made it worse. Good thing those wire terminals failed...if not, my guess that almost out of range cap would have made the compressor bite the dust or close to it. Best thing here is a new cap and the repaired wires as both had been out of range for who knows how long. One reason it is a fair idea to check the mf of caps when on a service call, they really need to be within the rated output or else replace them, they are cheap insurance. I like the TERM-LOK kit...I'd use all 3 wires just for good measure. That is a good item to have on the truck all of the time ! Just like any capacitor or contactor.
Another Damsel it distress Mamma! Really happy to know ya. And watch these. The thing is, It looks easy, but it's not... with all the experience. Anyway...
Nothing like the good old helicopter it's just amazes me they will hover over the top of you and don't know what in the world they're looking at other than they're tying up and man's time and that's very very if they would just leave a tech alone it would get done faster I know that from personal experience owning my own HVAC company down here in Sedalia Missouri I just love watching this guy and Miss Molly
20 years is considered old? Shoot, My Sears unit is 41 years old and still running like a champ! Has only needed one new fan cap and fan motor (higher rpm) plus a charge or two. Just had a week of 105° and we were chilling at 73° Can i get another 20 years? Lets find out!
Hi- I am having trouble with condenser turning on and off within multiple times after start up. >I replaced contactor- didnt work- got 24v at contactor then 11.4v then volts moves all over. >I replaced transformer- same thing. I just watched your video- i wonder if timer relay could be the issue? Not sure if power comes from or to relay? I have timer relay + 1 other one. I appreciate any help.....Unit is rheem/2003
high or low pressure switches on unit ??? if you have a time delay on condenser just jump it out .. there should be one in tstat unless its a old round style you might be low on gas. it could be a loose wire on low voltage or bad connection in tstat not staying ingaged .. you have to test when its happening to see if your losing power and whats happening right now your just guessing not testing ..
As an electrician, seasoned HVAC tech, I would have checked the connections to the compressor and checked resistance before doing anything else. Mrs. Molly isn't too happy with your troubleshooting skills today. Lot's of unnecessary shit thrown at the wall in the wrong order. Lol.
I'm no HVAC tech but a 20 year electrician. I definitely wouldn't troubleshoot the way this muffinhead did. Throw things at it till it works. Poor lady probably paid for a hard start kit unnecessarily.
@@electriciants7927 Why are you watching these videos then? I personally see nothing wrong with his diagnosis/flow and repair. Putting a hard start kit on a 20 year old unit is not a bad thing at all. 95% of everybody else looking at that system would be pushing for a new unit. Knowing Steve, ladies bill was prob
Sometimes, but not all the time, these helicopter customers offer outstanding and hilarious moments. Steve's little aside comments are priceless.
That was an awesome fix, Steve. Your perseverance & honesty saved this lady a lot of money. I hope you keep workin “PART-TIME” for a while longer. Enjoy your videos, along with many others. BRING IT!!
Always great to see you going the extra mile to get the job done. Steve & Mrs Molly... God bless
Steve you always the go the extra mile to help people, especially the senior citizens.
9 on 10 guys will ask to buy a new one. God bless you Steve. 😊
Nothing but quality.... steve rescuing them Damsals in distress...
Anyone else would of gave up after replacing the capacitor and sold her a new system for sure.
Almost took grandma out with the door😂 💀
Another pile of ruud, steve
R-22 and R-12. The two best refrigerants ever.
Refrigerants. Not coolants.
I’m going to be honest most companies wouldn’t touch that unit. Let alone most techs that are in the field no wouldn’t even know the first thing to do. I love your videos man and appreciate your work! there are very few of your breed left.
GOOD JOB , YOU ARE WELL STOCKED FOR PARTS IN TRUCK, A TRUE MASTER
The way he dropped that panel right a her feet was amazing. This guy is truly one of a kind. An amazingly intuitive and gifted mechanical mind. Been watching this guy get people going for years now.
Someone else would've came in with the tablet and charged her 8k for a new system. Steve is a real mensch
Tablets are expensive 😂
Honesty and integrity at its finest Steve, very few other people would have fixed it, they would have just sold her a new one.
Nice job as always, the warehouse on wheels comes through so you can get the unit running!
You sequenced your diagnosis the same way I would have; winding up with the hard start. I had that same unit and didn't know the first thing about A/C back in 2011. Thanks for going the extra mile for the lady.
Good job on diagnosing the issue. Love seeing these old R22 units still getting the job done.
Those old ruud ones are probably the best
Good thing she's there to help Steve.
You’re a good man Steve. A very good man.
Most guys would have condemned that thing!
I just repaired two of these units in a mobile home park. Both were capacitors with a blown fuse. Up and running.
Good job Steve I know that lady really appreciated you doing what you did on that AC unit you and Miss Molly take care
You're a good man Steve. A lot, would have given up and ran to high ground...
Congratulations on 200K Subs Steve. Keep up the great work!
Helicopter customer 🚁🚁🚁 😂😂
The customer almost lost all her toes with the door purposely dropped 🤣
When the a-coil starts leaking you could replace it and that unit will run longer than a new 410a unit.
That's what happened with mine
I'm glad you could fix it for the nice lady.

Got her running again 👍🏻👍🏻
Hey good to see you both
Good job helping her out. She was so nice. Get some young damsels too….😅
so shines a good deed,..in a weary world
i like those clients. I usually head home with fresh baking😊

Give it the old Gundy mama
Wow thats an oldie but goodie! I'm gonna go back to some pre 2014 videos just to hear that again. Lol
Pretty sure the windmills don't even last 25 years, heard lots of gearbox problems just several years in.😢
Such a waste for so little return
Wonderful work and logical thinking
Steve is working again!

July 1 is Canada 🇨🇦
Good Golly Miss Molly! 🐶
Why not check the voltage, instead of checking the amps?? 😊
My RUUD is a 1991!! Still choichin’, MAMA!
Will it run mamma!!!
😂❤Sometimes old AC last better than new one 😅
I would have also cleaned the coil after you had finished getting it running. Great job though anyway.
Steve, we need you for President. You would fix what ails this country
You Just forgot the booster capacitor inside, man!!

Why'd he leave the hard start on there?
Hello Steve!
Solder it on ?
*question* Do hard start kits stay permanently connected to the system, or you remove it as soon as the condenser starts running again?
Stays permanent
btw, congratulations on the 200K subs.
Stevie Lav don't give a sht about youtube verification or some silver plaque!
Hello Steve
20 year old compressuh
How does the compressor get cooled if it's on a separate compartment apart from the fan ?
Cold freon cools it
Don't you check compressor first before terminal kit
She seems like a sweetheart
Nice lady but very chatty
It's rude to say Rudd
Probably doesn’t need the hot start or cap. Actually put a soft start on mine.
😂😂😂😂
Sounds 3he thinks that You are God or a fortune Teller.

Steve is a descent mechanic. I think his flow was a bit off on this one though. I watch his and others videos for entertainment.
WHY A NEW UNIT? BURNT THAT BAD ? OK REPLACE THE COMPRESSOR. NOT THE WHOLE UNIT!
From a professional standpoint, that would be the worst decision possible.
To put a new co pressure into a unit with a 20 year old coil is ridiculous.
Nothing agrees with this lady
Boo hoo! 😧😧😧
Most of the time you're better off just waiting to the next day the longer it's off the better off you are better chance of starting
😂😂
First lol😅 hi steve
