    I don't understand the hate. The movie was inspiring and life changing for me. I would never have heard of Patch Adams without it.

      Katie Newville - same here. It encouraged me look harder for much better medical care than what a person is typically given.

      I love the movie too, but the hate comes from the fact that they promised to give Patch Adams himself a sizeable donation off of this movie. They broke their promises to him.

    In the end, producers, director, studios STILL fucked him by not providing funds for Gesundheit.
    Shameful.

    Considering how elitist and poorly operated the American healthcare system has always been, Patch Adams and people who follow in his footsteps will forever be needed at the helm of medical reform for this country whose morals are exactly as movie director Tom Shadyac described at the beginning of this clip.

    • @redacted2275
      @redacted2275 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah... too bad ELITIST Hollywood made billions with the movie and they didn't donate one cent to the _real_ Patch Adams' _real_ free hospital...
      "During a speech in 2010 at the Mayo Clinic, Patch Adams said, 'The film promised to build our hospital. None of the profits from the film ever came to us, and so, basically 40 years into this work, we are still trying to build our hospital.'" (th-cam.com/video/CdCrPBqQALc/w-d-xo.html)

      👓👔🧢 This 🎬 is Disgusting If Want to talk about other Form of methods on helping patients Fine If you want to Send a message That improves lives Fine BUT DO IT As a Fucking adult Not this Childish Fabricated Bullshit

  • @adamzanzie

    I have mixed opinions on this movie. I enjoyed it as a child, but after I heard what Hunter Adams had to say about it, my opinion changed. Adams comments in this interview about how he didn't want a "goofy doctor" movie, but unfortunately, that's exactly what they made. Also, he mentions how he wanted the movie to help build his hospital, but I recall Adams complaining in an interview about how he never got any money from the studio to build the hospital. Or maybe he complained that Robin Williams didn't donate any money to it; I'm not sure.

    I'll probably get a lot of hate for this, but I believe Patch Adams is quite narrow minded when it comes to the positives that the media can have. The film wasn't supposed to be a fundraiser for his hospital - it was to tell a tale about an extraordinary and selfless visionary. Large budget movies have to be a profit making business - and I think Robin Williams did an incredible job. I'm also sure that the impact of this movie inspired so many people to dig deep into their pockets and donate to Patch Adam's hospital. It would be very interesting to see a breakdown of donations for his hospital before and after the film was released. And yes, Robin Williams was a millionaire but he has spent a great deal of his wealth supporting 37 charities and 26 causes.

    • @aussieman3021
      @aussieman3021 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +cat thornberg Well this movie was basically a big disservice to the real Patch Adams (the long haired guy with the mustache), because it portrayed him as a clownishly immature idiot who spent the entire time acting that way through medical school when the real Patch was a very smart guy who only used laughter and joy as healing if needed and in a mature fashion, and was a guy full of theories and ideas who knows how to treat patients and what techniques to use as a way of helping patients get and feel better.

    • @zaltaire
      @zaltaire 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Maybe that's why the real Patch despised the decision for Robin as himself in the film...he later dismissed this and said there was some intelligence behind it but I personally think he's lying.

    You know who wouldve also nailed this movie as Patch Addams? Jim Carrey. And he wouldve looked younger than Robin so it woulda been a plus.

    • @jblackbath
      @jblackbath 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @BeyondEnchantment not saying Robin didnt nail it in his own way. Notice how I said also. Im just saying imagine how this movie wouldve been if they gave it to Jim Carrey instead😳
