I mean my average orgasms are way better than the feelings I get from anything else in life so I disagree LOL xD great song tho, very passionate guitar solo
The solo that starts around 9:55 is simply one of Petrucci's best, if not THE best. All the feeling he puts into it... Gives me fucking goose bumps every time I hear it. The reverb, the string rakes, the wah pedal, the searing note pivots, God it's amazing!!!

I absolutely agree. It's my favorite because it has so much feeling. I love their music but from the 2000s forward I feel everything to be too robotic.
Not my personal best but this is prolly in my top 3. The thing that’s odd to me is that what you said is actually a controversial take in the DT community
@@ralexlu And it was micromanaged by their label, something they hated, but it looks like it worked well for them... definitely better than all the cringe they've produced after 2006
Falling into Infinity is a great album. Lines in the Sand, Trial of Tears, Hells Kitchen, Hollow years! I would rank this album higher than some of their new material.
Fulvio Cusimano A Dramatic Turns of Events is a album with a fresh sound, i dont know why, but got it. Dream Theater...that album is poor...really really poor.
It's the year 2004. 1 A.M. in the morning. My bro and I are waiting for the warehouse to open so we can go in and fold newspapers. He turns on his MP3 player in his car and plays these 2 tracks. When they end he says "That's my Favorite Song of all time." From that day on, the same has been true for me. Listening to it today on my birthday. 😉
Arcturusalt well they were given alot of pressure by the record company at the time they recorded this album. basically they didn't have much freedom and mostly did what the record company wanted, not what they wanted to do. if you look at their next album Scenes From a Memory, it's totally different as they changed the label.
+DRW1107 yeah. People told me that this album was bad. I were really sick of this new dream theater's songs and i were searching for something different and i found this one. It is really good and underestimated. In my opinion this is one of DT's best albums.
Roberta Michelini yes , it will. But I'm not sure if I will keep following them with the same hype that I used to have. Even though, they still are one of my favorite bands. By the way, are u from Brazil? That's weird, I've never met any girl that enjoys DT as u seem to do...

9:5410:58 That bluesy guitar solo part, my soul jives with it... this whole song... oh and the ending part of hell's kitchen... Truly beautiful music! thanks Tonz for this...
Listening to this after years reminds me how much Derek was a bonus to the band. The "wizzard" Rudess is boring (though a pure technical monster). Derek was playing with soul and character. Miss this period of DT
Alex. F. I agree on JR. Technicality does NOT trump all. Derek and Kevin actually knew WHAT to play, not only HOW to play. All JR does is legato runs unisono or in harmony with JP. Kevin Moore especially knew how to COMPLEMENT Petrucci's playing.
Portnoy said they knew rudess even before the recording of FII, and said "Jordan is the one we always wanted" cause portnoy was desperately seeking to resurrect the band from the one hit wonder label that had plagued them since I&W.
@@aluandcache7336I would say he has been quite consistently good on all albums he is part of, but in live recordings, especially those of older songs originally recorded with Moore or Sherinian, he plays really boring lines that are all over the place
Finalmente!
DT first five albums ..sheer quality..i still get chills when i listen to these songs now as i did when they came out..hope DT goes back to its classic roots rather than making generic crap...its a clear a clear choice btw money n art
For me... this is them at their best IMO, saw this tour live and it was spectacular! Nice almost dark brooding mood and spectrum with these jazzy/proggy/ethereal songs, really lots of emotion and feeling put into "Hell's Kitchen" and "Lines in the Sand". John Petrucci at his best. Such a mature sound from this band in those days. They will always be the best... it's hard to compete with or compare with this!
Gotta say, i think Moore and Sherinian had great effect in tempering DTs indulgence for going off on abrasive muaical tangents. I dont think they get enough credit! As soon as Rudess came on it was basically Liquid Tension Experiment with a singer 75% of the time.
Matt Leonard Rudess has a trait to make everything fancy. And back when the other two were in the band, their technical superiority was being controlled. Rudess is usually even wackier than all of them.
Paradoxically, it started going downhill from when Rudess joined (I don't like SFAM that much, though there are magical moments... but I don't find it that consistent). The same happened to Nighwish to some extent, when they enrolled a "better" bass player - but the Nighwish I truly liked died after "Wishmaster"...
This is the first DT song combination I learned on drums (I'm actually re-learning it now). That drum track has so many turns and twists and bells and whistles, it's huge fun to learn and play! And it goes perfectly with JP guitar track, it was a perfect collaboration between MP and JP, creating fantastic pieces of art, both musically and emotionally. Too bad that it ended.
Saw DT play these two in '98. Over time, I forgot the song names and when I heard this duo, the flashbacks at 12:49, 9:55 and 3:18 gave me chills. They played with Peter Frampton and Joe Satriani. Best. Show. Ever.
@@pmcate2 I've been to dozens of concerts, perhaps a hundred or more even. This one was by far the best of them. When Frampton's 'Do You Feel Like We Do' entered its famous mid section, a fireball streaked across the sky as if on cue, and brighter than any star in the sky by far. The audience was cheering it on and everyone was pointing at it. I'll never forget that day.
Some people think it's cheesy, idk why. I think it's great I think it gives the chorus the energy it needs, and for the longest time I actually thought it was Portnoy.

Its amazing at the time how much I disliked this album... coming off Awake and Change of Seasons I thought this album was terrible. By comparison to their recent (especially post-Portnoy) material, this album has aged exceptionally well.
