I saw Dream Theater in Paris in 2000, The Spirit Carries On tour. The greatest of progressive rock. Images and Words (1992) and Awake (1994) are the two best progressive metal albums of all time Gorgeous Space-Dye Vest !
30 years later, this album sounds as fresh as it did back in 1994. "Images and Words" was my introduction to this band, but "Awake" was the one that made me a fan since late 1994. I remember buying this album on CD along with Pantera's "Far Beyond Driven," Soundgarden's "Superunknown" and Nine Inch Nails' "The Downward Spiral." Without a doubt a great year for music.
@@beenalive1736 Sure, but at no point am I comparing them. I don't usually overrate Dream Theater, they are excellent musicians, I admire them a lot but nothing more.
@@ronny-2112 Yep I'm just stating my own thesis. I also don't try to worship bands, in fact I don't hold Metropolis in the mythic regard that many do. Awake on the other hand blows me away, and I like it way better than stuff such as Superuknown which I consider just decent with a few great songs I them
I found I&W when this album was out and then my life changed. More than 20 liveshow in front of stage, a cover band of DT for years and suddenly in the Charlie Dominici's band opening for DT shows in Chaos in motion world Tour. Thanks guys. Americo
Of all the great and immense Dream Theater discography, this is the greatest masterpiece (they have several) that the band has made, to date!! It was also the album with which I met the best band in the Universe and surrounding areas, and the first one I had (and I have all their albums...). Perfection, virtuosity, inspiration, metal, passion...in short: DREAM THEATER!!!!
I agree. This is their most consistent album. Silent Man aside, all the tracks go from good to great. I&W is not this consistent, tho, but it has 2 tracks that are better than any other DT song made: Metropolis and Learning to Live.
Kevin Moore has an amazing life story, musician, producer, writer, lyricist, and now a psychologist, also made movie sound tracks in Turkish movies and play atmospheric music as well. DT is a fine hard rock prog band and Portnoy as self taught is quite good on the pads, as for the rest of the gang what can u say, brilliant musicians.
I think you are wrong my friend... Portnoy was in Beckley Music college, where he met Petrucci and Myung... The three original founding members of Majesty/Dream Theater... Mike isn't self taught...
@@antoniostopalopoulos599 Per wikip early life section it states he was self taught and later met them at the college, u may be right as wiki is suspect to many falsehoods and exaggerations all the best
Everyone knows this album was released in 1994, and the description clearly states that 2024 is the 30th annivesary. Not sure wtf you’re yammering about. 😆

Oh? Was about to go to bed when Rhino's latest upload compelled me to press play. Now, I want to warm up my amp, brush the dust off of my guitar, and play along! 🥰
A hard rock masterpiece in my opinion. A solid fuckin 10. With outstanding guitar work and guitar solos. . guitar God. . JOHN PETRUCCI. . 30 years? Never. Saw their performance at the Docks in Hamburg, with Fates Warning as opener. Like yesterday. Mirror and Lie are such closely-related back-to-back tracks. "I spent so long trusting in you, I trust you forgot - just when I thought I believed in you" - "and you tell me 'trust me', I can trust you -as far as I can throw you". Great lyrics, with Nov 5 coming on (and I will not say whom I wouldn't trust :-))
Después de Six Degrees este es mi favorito de DT, en ambos se logra el balance perfecto entre Heavy Metal y Rock progresivo. A diferencia de otros donde hay mas de uno o de otro.
The best tracks off the album are Lie and Scarred, all the rest are filler, Dream Theater had only one masterpiece in all their career, it's Words And Images, they made some decent albums but nothing even come close to that one, the idea of making long albums with long songs and long instrumental solos already failed in the late seventies with the prog rock bands, why bands insist to reinvent the wheel? i really don't know, thanks for sharing.

I love Soundgarden but I wouldn't compare Superunknown to this storm of a magnum opus

The build-up leading to the first guitar solo in "Lie" is just incredible. What an album altogether, too.

This would be a perfect year for Rhino to do a Vinyl reissue of this Classic Progmetal Gem. Just saying. 🤘
Different way of I&W,but this album is masterpiece.
Лучший альбом группы! 😊
What a nice drum sound on this album!😊
Portnoy took Queensryche's production from Empire and Operation Mindcrime as template for the sound of this album.
It was released on my 18th birthday... nostalgia

There are millions that likes Taylor swift or Trap music... why wouldn't be People that enjoy this?? We love these albums
Strongly dissagree, no weak moment on entire album
SIlent Man feels out of place IMO, but the rest of the album is pretty solid. Erotomania - Voices are especially strong tracks.
Ya bien muerto el género
