  • Because I couldn’t find a good video that shows how to do this I decided to make one. It’s in 720p and I apologize if it doesn’t show up as good as most of my videos. Make sure to like and subscribe and if this video helps you please let me know.

    I had this same problem and you seem to work like I do so it was easy to follow. No wasted time, etc . Thanks a bunch.

    I have a 07 DTS that needs a power steering pump. This video was very helpful

    Given the "shiny bits" you mentioned, it would be a good idea to flush the system before putting it back into service, and all the hoses (yeah, I needed to replace them too) came with heavy suggestions that all hoses should be replaced at the same time, the system should be flushed, and in addition, a magnetic filter be installed on the return line.
    I'm flushing mine (then installing the filter), so hopefully any crud in the rack and pinion doesn't cause another pump failure or worse, a deterioration of the rack so I needed to replace that next...
    Thanks for the video, I learned a lot from it, and watched it at least 4 times before I tackled my job.

      Yeah the pressure line rubbed through on the valve cover so I had to replace it, I didn’t see any other shiny bits but then I also had to put new fluid in it. I am glad this helped you out!

    Its also better to just buy a new pulley because it becomes distorted when removing

    Im buying a 06 dts with a northstar and it doesnt seem to be leaking but whines when turning and i think im gonna replace the belt too i couldnt find your video on it but thanks for this video very informative

      I didn’t make a video on changing the belt because it’s a real pain to try and video, I did do a tensioner video it might be of some help. Before you change the pump try and bleed the system first, if it still whines then it’s definitely a bad pump.

      DON"T BUY A DTS, they are an owners nightmare. Many hours repairing, more than you will be driving you have been warned

    Is it possible that it might be just a loose hose, since my 06 dts only has 77k miles on it?

    • @ranger.auto.repair
      @ranger.auto.repair  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Anything is possible, and the power steering pump can fail at anytime and at any mileage, this car was just over 100,000 miles when it failed. Always check your hoses for everything because I also did a video where the car came back for a pressure hose and it had rubbed out on the valve cover.

    Why would you use a 5/8 on a car made of metric nuts and bolts? Specially on a line where it would fit lose.

    • @ranger.auto.repair
      @ranger.auto.repair  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Because the 5/8 fit better than the 16mm plus GM even today have a tendency to swap off between metric and SAE. Rule is if it fits better than the other options you use it.

      @ranger.auto.repair  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There’s two marks on the dipstick the one closest to the top where the lid is, that’s the full line, it might also be marked “full”

    Yep, mine is making that noise and it gets louder as the wheel turns.

      Make sure if you buy the new pump you spin the pulley and make sure it spins freely before you buy it, I didn’t do that and now it chirps when it’s cold.

      You’re in luck! Next week the car has to come back for the power steering pump again so I will be redoing the video.
