Yeah this was where I first saw them live and got addicted to their sound. Though 1980 for me - I think. I did ten years of going to Greenbelt Rock Festival. Those were happy times.
This gig prompted me to write my first - and only - fan letter. I invited the band to my house to play Subbuteo. Andy Piercy wrote back to say they would have loved to come, but unfortunately were on tour in the USA...
Great memories for me and it was my third Greenbelt festival with the cream of the christian music scene of the day. ATF, Bryn haworth, Randy stonehill and Larry Norman. i liked Randy's set the best but I always loved After The Fire. I wish this gig was remastered and released on DVD.
I remember this gig and that ATF delivered a great set, the fireworks that were such a celebration at the time, and then the following controversy. Some of the locals complained about the noise, and a minister led the crowd in penitent prayer the following morning. I was dismayed at the time, and now 40 years later still think he badly missed the spirit of the festival.
Disassociating Christianity from that kind of cultural conservatism and nimbyism, and allowing Christian youth to feel free to be as anti-establishment and radical as their consciences and scripture led them to be. That's what it meant to me back then anyway.
@@patrickholt2270 if it was 1979, maybe Cliff Richard topped the bill on Sunday night? Meanwhile my school friends watched Led Zeppelin’s final gig at Knebworth. Boy, was I at the wrong gig!

Aww, that is so cute. I'm sure they would have come, had they not been in the USA, Jon. That's funny. X
Great story Jon -
(from a fellow Subbuteo fan from the '70's !!!)
I hope you kept the letter ? BTW ;
I kept ALL of the 18 teams that I'd bought !!!!!
So pleased to find this! What a great weekend - happy days.
Remember it well. Great weekend... and great band.

This was an electric atmosphere
Great concert, privileged to have been there, but we did have a little trouble with fires in the car park -sort of the fires after After The Fire.
I was there too.
@@marisha4sure = My mates ALL urged me to go, but I didn't
Really regret it now, even just having missed this perfomance
