Would love an updated review with the Guadalcanal scenario and with up and coming CBI scenarios. Smaller scenarios are great! I can play Guadalcanal in under 2 hours!!! And it is the full experience.
Been a while since I played this - one of my all time favs. The 42 (or 43?) scenario is one of the best gaming experiences I've had. Played it half a dozen times, half as the Japanese, and won twice by conquering India (the second time if I had failed in India I could have taken China). I layed back in the Pacific and let the American player move in and hit them HARD when an opportunity presented itself. That held them off long enough to focus on India. For China in the 2nd game I can admit I just got lucky with the cards(but made sure I was able to play them). Love calandale's vids!
I was looking through some of your vids when I noticed Space Empires in the background of this one. I thought to myself, "Oh, this is pretty recent!" Keep up the good work!!!
Make sure you use the 2.0 rules from GMT's website. There's a couple key alterations from the rules that shipped with the original game. I also recommend the "Deluxe" map (cardstock -- I didn't get the new hard-mounted map) since there is a couple small terrain changes (Palau is mixed terrain being a biggie). GREAT GAME though. Nice review!
CDG stands for the words 'card driven game'. In the hobby, it means a set of games derived from Mark Herman's We the People's system, using action point cards with events on them, and more or less excludes games driven by cards which do not directly come from that design.
"Empire of the Sun" is a game that has defied all of my attempts to learn it properly. But, I have started watching your series of videos on this title and I'm willing to give it another go. There is no question about me 'liking' the game or not. I definitely DO. But I just wish I could actually play it. Thanks for doing this series as now I feel I can really give the game a chance.

Good review; do you think you'll ever do another series on this one.
I'd love to. With so many games really. It's tough though with the pile I have that I've done nothing for.

It's also available on VASSAL.
I hate to bother you with such a dumb question but... what is a CDG game? I am a newbie.

I appreciate it
