Thanks for this step-by-step learning series on a great game. Just as clarification (although it probably doesn't matter in learning gameplay) generally speaking: XXXX=army; XXX=corps; XX=division; X=brigade; III=regiment; II=battalion; and I=company

Hi Alexander Two Quick points the USA also has inter-service rivalry ( rule 14.0 and 14.1) plus the pre war unit yellow dot on the counters ( rule 11.1)

Hi Al, thanks for this counter intro, having these intros under my belt before reading the rules will make a world of difference in coming up to speed with EotS. Adios, Ken.

Clarification on the ground movement. The ground unit movement is not 1 hex per OC value. Jungle and mixed hexes require 2 movement points to move into. Mountain hexes 3 MPs. Therefore, you can not move a ground unit into a mixed, jungle or mountain hex playing a 1 OC card. See rule 8.42. And a fair amount of the map where the fighting will take place are mixed or jungle hexes. The hexes you used for your movement example at 15:30 actually are transport route hexes. So ground movement on them only costs 1/2 MP. Also explained in rule 8.42. The map key at the top/middle of the game board has hex descriptions.

Great idea! Looking forward to more in this series. Completely demystifying a complex but great game.

Thanks for doing this Alex you are demystifying EotS so well for me. Definitely less daunting now. The counter explanation and how you've sorted them will be a lifesaver

Thank you so much for the tip of sorting the counters by game turn. I even went one step further and separated the starting counters by Japanese and Allies (though that was more because I have a small plastic sorting tray and was forced to because of space constraints). I can already tell this is going to save me a whole bunch of time when I set it up to play!

    • @ThePlayersAid

At some point, yes. We're waiting for a new gaming table to be built which will allow these kind of videos to happen a bit easier as they can be set up and left up to be worked on, it's hard tearing everything down in place of our regular gaming etc.

@@ThePlayersAid Oh I hear you brother. Here at my house i try to leave a couple of games set up at all times. But need to put them away if the gaming group wants to play something else. The curse of only having one gaming table. lol

  • @wartable

This game is starting to remind me of Cataclysm with which all its rule minutiae, exceptions and complexity makes it impossible to play correctly and ends in a cluster f**k of wasted time and effort.
