Thank you for posting this. I had never seen the full show. I had a good time on this trip to the UK in 1985 and it was especially great to spend backstage time with John Fischer, Ali Bongo and the members of Air Jazz. When Ali Bongo and Paul first saw Air Jazz in rehearsal they marveled at the originality, they looked at each other and one said "And you think that every thing has already been done!" By the way, this show won a Rose d'Or for Best Entertainment (variety show) in the Montreux festival that year.
It's interesting to see these episodes in their entirety. They aired the show in Canada at the same time, but they usually needed a lot of editing to fill the 1 hour time slots here. I don't even think pre-82 episodes aired in their entirety, only segments to pad out later episodes. I never did see the openings before the blue/yellow stripped one., but do remember seeing the 80 and 81 sets. The biggest thing I remember from this episode was the dance number up until the deck of cards sawing trick. They edited that into an episode from 89 or 90. Post wig seasons were a continuity nightmare I bet, but that episode was definitely the most noticeable. Just hard cuts from one episode then back to the other. Don't know if they were local edits in Canada or best of shows edited by the BBC, but as Canada was airing it as a weekly, if not daily series, they definitely needed a lot more footage for sure.
I hope that this video can be kept online as I really like this one (there are some classic routines and guests). However I've been notified by youtube that Channel 4 have claimed that this is a Lucas and Walliams copyright show????? How very weird. Of course this is owned by the BBC and the music was all recorded live in the studio. If the Beeb ever asked me to take the videos down I would of course do so (I hope they don't) - but Channel 4??? As always - I only put these videos up for nostalgia and archive purposes and never monetise them. I just wish the BBC would broadcast these classic shows so everyone could see them. Or release them on DVD - there is defiantly a market for them.
+Hey Presto Thanks for these shows. Are you sure this is Easter 1984? I think it's 1985. I mentioned on another video of yours (Christmas 1984) that were you aware it was recently possible to buy Paul's BBC shows 1979 -1994 on DVDs from his own office. I was relieved as I was able to buy shows I hadn't got. However great if you have all of them and look forward to more uploads
+StopFrame hey there - thank you for picking ups on the date - yes you are correct - it is 85 not 84 - I'll correct this in the description - thank you :-) I spoke to Paul Daniels last year about buying some DVDs of the shows but I think they were limited in number and I had missed some of the early ones :-( Such sad news that he has gone. A real hero to so many magicians.
+Hey Presto No probs, He was a hero you're right.. You mention you spoke to PD last year, I got an email from his assistant Kyle Stoney as recently as last August saying that the whole series plus Secrets was now being produced so you may be in luck with him despite the sad circumstances?...I have two 1979, and all 1980, 81, 82 series but sadly don't want to sell at mo! I should maybe upload as you are benefiting me with 1984/85 series! I will probably try him again myself to buy the 1984-1986 series....
+StopFrame thats really interesting - thank you. Wow - amazing you have all those early episodes - I never knew they had released so many. Not sure if you'd be allowed to upload if they are official releases (not taped off the TV etc.). I do have many of the episodes - but of course would love to have them in DVD quality - very cool. I'll probably wait a little while and then contact Kyle. I'm sure they are all very busy at the moment.
Hopefully the two chimps are now someplace safe in a sanctuary. It was an earlier time, I know, so I don't blame Paul But many small chimps, once they grew too big and strong to manage, were sold on to research labs where they underwent decades of fear, neglect, and torture. With some luck, these little guys escaped that horrible fate.
I asked Paul before his death about whether the shows would be released entirely on DVD. He was hopeful that both he and the BBC were coming to an agreement. Some months later he informed me that the BBC would not release them. Bloody annoying really
Yep - its a shame - can't believe they are never repeated. If they can have a channel devoted to 321 and Bullseye then Paul Daniels Magic Show would def get an audience :-)
I agree with you, especially nowadays as the master is no longer with us, RIP. However, these were produced, written and edited by BBC Employees, Ali Bongo as Magical Advisor to Paul Daniels who owns the props, as Paul only used those made by Paul himself or his Father when he was alive, after his fathers death, Paul, his son Matthew along with a good friend, carried on making them themselves. So, to cut a long legal argument short, PAID FOR BY US AND THE DANIELS FAMILY ESTATE. It may well be "licenced" for transmission or other use, ie, those nice gentlemen Lucas and Walliams who we all know in the UK and are great folks. They may have paid a fee to the BBC to turn them into DVD's or whatever, but the FULL RIGHTS still belong to the BBC. Why? Because us the taxpayer, and the BBC licence holder in the UK and the Daniels Estate, paid in full for them to be made. Case closed M'Lud !!!
yeh the bbc shows are paid for by the british tax payer .therefore they are publicly owned and therefore we have the right to see them . they can be published on youtube as public property. The bbc surely can't have a reason to hold them back. They should be out there . Many bbc tv shows are pulled off youtube , and sold to streaming and dvd release to make money for 'someone' , when they were originally paid for by us. So there is an interesting case here.

Thanks for all these. I'm a huge fan and it's wonderful to have them on TH-cam.
Paul Daniels = Magical Genius! 😁
3:38 - I loved this bit. So fast. Perfectly controlled by Paul.
Mate, I cannot thank you enough for putting up the great mans tv work over the years.
I loved this edition of the show. The ending is even more poignant now. RIP Paul.

At 2:30 we have a masterclass in performing magic. Just superb from Paul here. So fast.

+Hey Presto just had news that Channel 4 have dropped the claim that this is Lucas and Walliams. That's good :-)
