    with the benefit of hindsight i now appreciate what a class act Paul was; he skillfully blended his mastery of magic with wonderful light-entertainment

      he is good, but as a kid I always got a strange vibe off him like he was permanently annoyed about something.

    Oh wow, the trick with the arrows on the sign... I remember watching this all those years ago. I didn't realise it was quite so long ago as 1985, I'd only just started school at that age. I remember it vividly, I was so captivated by the patter of it that I tried really hard to replicate from memory the routine and spent some time figuring out how the trick worked (not bad for a five year old.). I used to put on little magic shows every now and then throughout my entire childhood and teens, that was a staple of my "act". It never failed to impress, modified the patter and got it down to a fine art. Made sure that it flowed in such a way that it distracted people from figuring out how it worked. If I say so myself, I handled that one like a master. Fast hands, fast patter, lots of little laughs and distractions, audience thinking I was the man (Well, the boy, at least.). Lol, great memories stirred up by seeing that again.

      So i wasnt the only one that borrowed this one. Most of my act came from PD back then. 👍

    Simon Guntrip (guest at 16:58) is a good friend of mine, and he showed me this video. I've actually managed to work out how the trick was done, and replicate it! Simon was my 'test victim' and I showed him how it was done.

    The most amazing trick - how did Daniels keep his wig on when he took off the helmet???

    Watching these shows purely out of nostalgia. We used to watch this as a family back when I was a wee boy whilst dad would be puffing on his cigar and sipping his scotch whisky.

    I first saw Paul on the tv show Wheeltappers And Shunters Social Club in the very early 70s.I knew then that he was going to be a major star. Not only was he was a superb magician he was also very very funny.I liked him.A lot.

    Great programme this was. Back in the day when there were things on the telly that were interesting , well presented and entertaining. Unlike today's mindless, egotistical and gimmicky blandness of talent and judging shows all based on hype and sensationalism

      Can't believe this was 35 years ago. That racing car stunt COMPLETELY blew me (and many of my friends) away at the time. Brilliant to find it again after all those years! Met Paul at a gig a long, long time ago. He really was a top bloke.

    36:40 - as they nail the lid down, Paul is exiting the crate by a trap door. The camera is positioned far enough away to not show the viewer at home that the stage they are on is high up. Secret area underneath the crate for Paul to be let out.

    Ivan must have been seriously rich to own a fifty pound note in 1985. That would have been nearly a weeks wages for me.

  • @johnking5174

    38:00 - There is the switch. Jackie leaves the stage but not in front of the crowd, he leaves behind the stage, where Paul takes over from Jackie and runs out to the car. That is not Jackie running to the car.

    What is more interesting is even there is the world's greatest human calculator Arthur Benjamin in this

  • @JasonMasterJHuhn
    @JasonMasterJHuhn 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Arthur Benjamin also appeared on Square One TV. It's a simple formula on squaring two numbers. But if the last digit is 5, the last 2 digits are 25 and the first digit is the first digit of the square number times the next number in the sequence. 25 squared is 625. 2 x 3 25. 19 squared equals 18 X 20 + 1 squared (the margin from the squared number), or 361.

    Daniels.:Known behind his back as 'The Magic Dwarf was proceeded by David Nixon. They both only became famous through the use of the newly invented camera trickery of TV, some ham magic and a guy called Bill Wallace (Stage name Ali Bongo).
    Wrongly earning their status. Best magic award goes to the clever and very honest Tommy Cooper!
